Choose any environment issue in Malaysia and discuss the source of the problem and suggest

a solution

Air pollution is the introduction of harmful substances in the air that have detrimental
impacts to the environment issue in Malaysia. It occurs when the harmful substances such as
foreign gases, odour, dust, or fumes are present in the air at levels that can harm the comfort and
health of animals and humans or even destroy plant life. Air pollution results from both human
and natural activities. Emissions from power plants present a perfect example of human activities
whereas volcanic eruptions and forest fires are some of the natural aspects.

There are three main causes of Malaysia’s high levels of air pollution; one it can remedy
itself and the other it needs international co-operation to reduce. The first is air pollution due to
exhaust gas from mobile emission sources such as motor vehicles, principally in urban areas.
Another problem is black smoke from diesel motor vehicles, the subject of numerous complaints
from the public. Malaysia has one of the highest levels of car ownership per person in the world
and this has led to very high levels of carbon monoxide pollution in all its major cities. The
suggestion for these problem is from walking to work to carpooling, there are lots of ways to
reduce impact. Since most pollution from cars and trucks is due to the burning of fuel, try to
reduce pollution from these sources by burning less fuel, burning fuel cleaner and burning
cleaner fuel. Beside that, electric vehicles can be an effective solution to air pollution. But their
potential to reduce air pollution in the city will not be fully realized if the consumers will not
support them. The governments must encourage people to use electric vehicles by making them
affordable, easily accessible and reliable. If city governments were to succeed in doing this, then
electric vehicles will be able to help address air pollution in the city and contribute to the
transition towards fully replacing fossil fuel-based vehicles in the future.

The second is the trans-boundary pollution that is caused by the burning of Indonesian
rain forests to provide land to plant palm oil. Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm
oil and much of its recent high levels of economic growth are based on this single industry. At
certain times of the year and with given weather conditions, the smoke from these fires drifts
across its international boundary with Singapore and Malaysia. Solving the problems associated
with trans-boundary pollution may not be quite so easy. These will require international
agreement and co-operation. So let’s get real on how the goverment need to tackle hard issues
like the environment. Protect what we have, take stern action on corporations that don’t practice
what they preach and increase the penalties for wildlife trade, poaching, illegal logging, open
burning and river pollution. Bring those responsible for the forest fires in Sumatra and
Kalimantan to justice and come up with an Act that allows regulators to go after companies
causing air pollution through irresponsible burning of forests and peatlands in neighbouring
countries.

The third of air pollution are caused by industrial activities. Of these three problems, air
pollution from mobile emission sources is of greatest concern. Suggestion for third causes is by
greener, more energy-efficient operations tend to reduce the amount of pollution a factory
generates. Companies can optimize different parts of their operation to save energy, thus
reducing the facility’s overall emissions. Beside that, Factory operators can also employ
abatement mechanisms that help destroy pollutants before they enter the environment. Different
abatement techniques are efficient for specific types of pollutants.
