Geotechnical work near you

Upcoming daytime geotechnical boring
Starting as early as Wednesday, Nov. 6, Sound
Transit plans to begin drilling to collect soil samples
for analysis on 22nd Ave SW (see map at bottom
right). Sound Transit is in the early planning phase
for the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions
project (see reverse side for project map). This work
will inform our analysis of the alternatives along the
north slope of Pigeon Point that we are studying in
the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Additional
borings in this area will occur in the coming months;
we will keep you informed as that work is scheduled.
What to expect
Work will occur from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Example of drilling equipment
Monday – Friday, and take approximately five
days to complete.
Parking around the work area on 22nd Ave SW
N
will be restricted. “No parking” signs will be placed
at least 72 hours prior to work starting; the drilling
equipment will remain in place overnight.
Sidewalks and bike path connections will remain
open during this work.
Flaggers will be present to direct traffic and
pedestrians around the work area.
Drilling equipment will sound similar to a truck
engine running, with occasional hammering.
The boring will be about 4-12 inches in diameter
and will be filled and patched when work is
complete. Approximate boring location

The West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions project is part of the voter-approved Sound Transit 3 Plan (ST3) to
expand the regional mass transit system. When complete in 2030 (West Seattle) and 2035 (Ballard), these
extensions will provide fast, reliable light rail connections to dense residential and job centers throughout the region.
