Chapter Az-Zaariyaat (51) Translation Chapter Az-
Zaariyaat (51)
َوفِي ُمو َس ٰى إِ ْذ أَرْ َس ْلنَاهُ إِلَ ٰى فِرْ عَوْ نَ بِس ُْلطَا ٍنAnd about Moses, when we had
﴾٣٨﴿ ُّمبِي ٍنdeputed him to the Pharaoh with a
clear authority (38) he had turned
ُ
﴾٣٩﴿ احر أوْ َمجْ نون َ ِ ال َس َ ْ َّ َ
َ فت ََول ٰى بِ ُركنِ ِه َوقaway on the basis of his power and

declared him a cheater or a fanatic
(39). So we seized him and his troops,
﴾٤٠﴿ خَذنَاهُ َو ُجنُو َدهُ فَنَبَ ْذنَاهُ ْم فِي ْاليَ ِّم َوهُ َو ُملِيم
ْ َ فَأ and cast them into a sea of disgrace
(fil yam – )فی الی ّم, and he was made a
target of reproach (muleem – )ملیم
(40). As for the community of ‘Aad,
﴾٤١﴿ يح ْال َعقِي َم
َ َِّوفِي عَا ٍد إِ ْذ أَرْ َس ْلنَا َعلَ ْي ِه ُم الر when we sent over them the winds of
desolation (41), it spared nothing that
ْ َما تَ َذ ُر ِمن َش ْي ٍء أَت
﴾٤٢﴿ َت َعلَ ْي ِه إِ ََّل َج َعلَ ْتهُ َكال َّر ِم ِيم came in its way except rendering
them as ruins/ashes (42). And about
َ َِوفِي ثَ ُمو َد إِ ْذ ق
﴾٤٣﴿ يل لَهُ ْم تَ َمتَّعُوا َحتَّ ٰى ِحي ٍن Thamud, when they were told to
enjoy all that they had up to a little
فَ َعتَوْ ا ع َْن أَ ْم ِر َربِّ ِه ْم فَأَخَ َذ ْتهُ ُم الصَّا ِعقَةُ َوهُ ْم while (43), they opted to turn away
with disdain from their Sustainer’s
﴾٤٤﴿ َيَنظُرُون decrees; As a result a thunderbolt of
calamities overtook them while they
had been looking on (44). Thereafter
ِ فَ َما ا ْستَطَا ُعوا ِمن قِيَ ٍام َو َما َكانُوا ُمنت
﴾٤٥﴿ ََص ِرين they were unable to regain stability
(qiyaamin – )قیامand were rendered
utterly helpless (45). And before
them the community of Noah faced
the same fate; they too were a
ِ َوح ِّمن قَ ْب ُل ۚ إِنَّهُ ْم َكانُوا قَوْ ًما ف
﴾٤٦﴿ َاسقِين ٍ َُوقَوْ َم ن criminal lot (46).
And this Universe, We have built it
َ ْ﴾ َو ْاْلَر٤٧﴿ َوسعُون
ض ِ َوال َّس َما َء بَنَ ْينَاهَا بِأ َ ْي ٍد َوإِنَّا لَ ُم
with our power/resources and verily,
it is We Who are continuously
﴾ َو ِمن ُكلِّ َش ْي ٍء خَ لَ ْقنَا٤٨﴿ َفَ َر ْشنَاهَا فَنِ ْع َم ْال َما ِه ُدون
expanding it (47). And this Planet
Earth, We have spread it wide, so
﴾ فَفِرُّ وا إِلَى اللَّـ ِه ۚ إِنِّي٤٩﴿ َزَ وْ َجي ِْن لَ َعلَّ ُك ْم تَ َذ َّكرُون
look how beautifully it is spread (48).
And for every existing entity, We
﴾ َو ََل تَجْ َعلُوا َم َع اللَّـ ِه إِلَ ٰـهًا٥٠﴿ لَ ُكم ِّم ْنهُ نَ ِذير ُّمبِين
have created pairs so that you may
learn from it (49). Therefore, rush
﴾٥١﴿ آخَ َر ۚ إِنِّي لَ ُكم ِّم ْنهُ نَ ِذير ُّمبِين
towards God’s way; Indeed, I am a
manifest fore-warner to you from
Him (50). And do not make up other
authorities as partners of Allah;
Indeed I am a manifest fore-warner
to you from Him (51).
ٍ َك ٰ َذلِكَ َما أَتَى الَّ ِذينَ ِمن قَ ْبلِ ِهم ِّمن َّرس
In the same way, never came a
ُول إِ ََّل قَالُوا
messenger to the earlier folks to

whom they did not ascribe the titles of
اصوْ ا بِ ِه ۚ بَلْ هُ ْم قَوْ م َ
َ ﴾ أت ََو٥٢﴿ احر أوْ َمجْ نون ُ َ ِ َسdeceiver or fanatic (52). Was it they
who transmitted those titles to these
ِّْ﴾ َو َذكر٥٤﴿ وم ُ َ ْ َ
ٍ ﴾ فَت ََو َّل َعنهُ ْم فَ َما أنتَ بِ َمل٥٣﴿ َ طا ُغونpeople? No, rather they have been
originally a community of
ْ ْ ِّ
﴾٥٥﴿ َ فَإ ِ َّن الذك َر ٰى تَنفَ ُع ال ُم ْؤ ِمنِينtransgressors (53). Therefore, turn
away from them and you will incur no
blame (54). And continue the process
of reminding as the remembrance of
divine teaching benefits the believers
(55);
ت ْال ِج َّنُ َو َما خَ لَ ْق it is because I have not created the
under-cover powerful class (al-Jinn –
ق َو َما ٍ ﴾ َما أُ ِري ُد ِم ْنهُم ِّمن رِّ ْز٥٦﴿ نس إِ ََّل لِيَ ْعبُ ُدو ِن َ اْل ِ ْ )ال ِجنّ َوand the general public for any
purpose other than for obeying Me
﴾٥٧﴿ ُط ِع ُمو ِن ْ ( أُ ِري ُد أَن ي56). I do not seek from them means
of sustenance; nor do I demand that
they provide something for Me (57).
ق ُذو ْالقُ َّو ِةُ إِ َّن اللَّـهَ هُ َو ال َّر َّزاIndeed it is the God Who is the
provider of means of sustenance, the
ِ ﴾ فَإ ِ َّن لِلَّ ِذينَ ظَلَ ُموا َذنُوبًا ِّم ْث َل َذنُو٥٨﴿ ين
ب ُ ِ ْال َمتPowerful in the strongest degree! (58)
So, for those who have committed
﴾٥٩﴿ ْجلُو ِن ِ أَصْ َحابِ ِه ْم فَ ََل يَ ْستَعexcesses by way of transgression/sin,
like the transgression/sins of their
allies, they may not exercise haste
(59); there’s going to be woe for those
﴾٦٠﴿ َ فَ َويْل لِّلَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا ِمن يَوْ ِم ِه ُم الَّ ِذي يُو َع ُدونwho have denied the truth starting
from the day which has been
promised for them to come (60).”

ghamratin saahoon (11)Yas'aloona beings; Prolific women, for they scatter
ayyaana yawmud Deen (12) Yawma children. Praise (one down, ascend on the top
of), apex, top.
hum 'alan naari yuftanoon (13) Zooqoo
fitnatakum haa zal lazee kuntum bihee Waw-Qaf-Ra: ِوقرا: = و ق رto be heavy (in
tas ta'jiloon (14) Innal muttaqeena fee ear), deaf, heaviness in the ear, be gentle,
jannaatinw wa 'uyoon (15) Aakhizeena gracious, respected. Wagaaran (v. n. acc.):
maaa aataahum Rabbuhum; innahum Majesty; Honour; Greatness; Kindness;
kaanoo qabla zaalika muhsineen (16) Forbearing; Dignity; Respect. Wiqran (v. n.
acc.): Burden.
kaanoo qaleelam minal laili maa
yahja'oon (17) Wa bilashaari hum Jiim-Ra-Ya = To flow, run quickly, pursue a
yastaghfiroon (18) Wa feee amwaalihim course, to happen or occur, to betake or aim for
haqqul lissaaa'ili walmahroom (19) Wa a thing, to be continuous or permanent, to send
fil ardi aayaatul lilmooqineen (20) Wa a deputy or commissioned agent.
feee anfusikum; afalaa tubsiroon (21)
Qaf-Siin-Miim = to divide, dispose, separate,
Wa fissamaaa'i rizqukum wa maa
apportion, distribute. qasamun - oath. qismatun
too'adoon (22) Fawa Rabbis samaaa'i - partition, division, dividing, apportionment.
wal ardi innahoo lahaqqum misla maa maqsumun - divided/distinct. muqassimun (vb.
annakum tantiqoon (23) Hal ataaka 2) - one who takes oath, who apportions.
hadeesu daifi Ibraaheemal mukrameen qasama (vb. 3) - to swear. aqsama (vb. 4) - to
(24) Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo swear. taqasama (vb. 6) - to swear one to
another. muqtasimun (vb. 8) - who divides.
salaaman qaala salaamun qawmum
istaqsama (vb. 10) - to draw lots. tastaqsimu -
munkaroon (25) Faraagha ilaaa ahlihee you seek division.
fajaaa'a bi'ijlin sameen (26)
Faqarrabahooo ilaihim qaala alaa د ي ن: = Dal-Ya-Nun =
taakuloon (27) Fa awjasa minhum khee obedience/submissiveness, servility, religion,
fatan qaaloo laa takhaf wa bashsharoohu high/elevated/noble/glorious
bighulaamin 'aleem (28) Fa aqbalatim rank/condition/state, took/receive a loan or
borrowed upon credit, become indebted, in
ra-atuhoo fee sarratin fasakkat wajhahaa debt, under the obligation of a debt, contract a
wa qaalat 'ajoozun 'aqeem (29) Qaaloo debt, repay/reimburse a loan,
kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki innahoo huwal rule/govern/manage it, possess/own it, become
hakeemul 'aleem (End Juz 26)(30) habituated/accustomed to something,
Qaala famaa khatbukum ayyuhal confirmation, death (because it is a debt
mursaloon (31) Qaalooo innaaa everyone must pay), a particular law/statute,
system, custom/habit/business, a
ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen (32) way/course/manner of conduct/acting,
Linursila 'alaihim hijaa ratam min teen repayment/compensation. Daynun (n.): Debt;
(33) Musawwamatan 'inda rabbika lending. Tadaayantum (prf. 2nd. p. m. plu.
lilmusrifeen (34) Fa akhrajnaa man VI.): You transact. La Yadiinuuna (imp. 3rd. p.
kaana feehaa minal mu'mineen (35) m. plu.): They do not subscribe, do not observe
Famaa wajadnaa feehaa ghaira baitim (religious laws). Diin: Requital; judgement;
faith; law; obedience.
minal muslimeen (36) Wa taraknaa

feehaaa aayatal lillazeena yakhaafoonal Madyiinuun/ Madyiiniin: Requitted.
'azaabal aleem (37) Wa fee Moosaaa iz
Miim-Ra-Ta: امراتۃ: امرات:م ر ت: = plural of
arsalnaahu ilaa Fir'awna bisultaa nim
Marat = Amrat – امراتand مروت: A waterless
Mubeen (38) Fatawalla biruknihee wa desert in which is no herbage: or a land in
qaala saahirun aw majnoon (39) Fa which no herbage grows: or in which is no
akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo herbage even if it be rained upon. A man
anabaznaahum fil yammi wa huwa having no hair upon his eyebrows or upon his
muleem (40) Wa fee 'Aadin iz arsalnaa body.
Render a thing smooth, remove a thing from its
'alaihimur reehal'aqeem (41) Maa tazaru
place, to break a thing, to be without water and
min shai'in atat 'alaihi illaa ja'alat hu herbage (land or tract of land).
karrameem (42) Wa fee Samooda iz
qeela lahum tamatta''oo hattaa heen (43) Sad-Ra-Ra: ص ّرۃ: = ص ر رto resolve, persist,
Fa'ataw 'an amri Rabbihim fa akhazal persevere in. asarra (vb. 4) - to be obstinate,
humus saa'iqatu wa hum yanzuroon (44) persist obstinately. asarruu - they persisted.
sirrun - intense cold. sarratin - moaning,
Famas tataa'oo min qiyaaminw wa maa
vociferating.
kaanoo muntasireen (45) Wa qawma
Noohim min qablu innahum kaano Sad-Kaf-Kaf: ص ّکت: = ص ک کto strike upon,
qawman faasiqeen (46) Wassamaaa'a smite, slap, close (e.g. door), collide/knock
banainaa haa bi aydinw wa innaa together, a written statement of a commercial
lamoosi'oon (47) Wal arda farashnaahaa transaction/purchase/sale/transfer/debt/property
fani'mal maahidoon (48) Wa min kulli
= و ج ہWaw-Jiim-ha = to
shai'in khalaqnaa zawjaini la'allakum face/encounter/confront, face, will,
tazakkaroon (49) Fafirrooo ilal laahi course/purpose/object one is pursuing,
innee lakum minhu nazeerum Mubeen place/direction one is going/looking, way of a
(50) Wa laa taj'aloo ma'al laahi ilaahan thing, consideration/regard.
aakhara innee lakum minhu nazeerum
Mubeen (51) Kazaalika maaa atal Ayn-Jiim-Zay: عجوز: = ع ج زto become
behind, lack, become in the rear, lag behind
lazeena min qablihim mir Rasoolin illaa (strength), become incapable, powerless, be
qaaloo saahirun aw majnoon (52) weak. ujuzun - old women. a'jaza (vb. 4) to
Atawaasaw bih; bal hum qawmun weaken, frustrate, find one to be weak. mu'ajiz
taaghoon (53) Fatawalla 'anhum famaaa - one who baffles. ajzun (pl. a'jazun) - portion
anta bimaloom (54) Wa zakkir fa innaz of the trunk that is below its upper part.
zikraa tanfa'ul mu'mineen (55) Wa maa Ayn-Qaf-Miim: عقيم: =ع ق مto be barren
(womb), become dry, be unproductive, be
khalaqtul jinna wal insa illaa gloomy, distressing, grievous (day), be
liya'budoon (55) Wa maa khalaqtul childless, destructive.

Maaa ureedu minhum mir rizqinw wa
maaa ureedu anyyut'imoon (57) Innal
laaha Huwar Razzaaqu Zul Quwwatil
Mateen (58) Fa inna lillazeena zalamoo

zanoobam misla zanoobi ashaabihim
falaa yasta'jiloon (59) Fawailul
lillazeena kafaroo miny yawmihimul
lazee yoo'adoon (60).
ٍّ َر
ق ﴾ فِي٢﴿ ور ٍ َُّم ْسط ب
ٍ ﴾ َو ِكتَا١﴿ ور ِ الط ُّ َوBy the approaching stage of time (at-
toor – ( )الطور1) and by what is
ف ِ ْال َم ْع ُم
ِ ﴾ َوال َّس ْق٤﴿ ور ت
ِ ْ
ي َ ب ْ
الوَ ﴾٣ ﴿ ور
ٍ ُ
ش ن مَّ ordained/decreed (kitab – )کتابwith
ِ ﴾ َو ْالبَحْ ِر ْال َم ْسج٥﴿ وع ْ absolute authority (mastoor – ()مسطور2)
﴾٦﴿ ُور ِ ُال َمرْ ف
in a widely spread scroll (riqqin
manshoor – )رق من ُشورِ (3), and by this
heavily populated/frequented
(alma’moor – )المعمورcentre of
guidance/command (al-bayit – ( )البيت4)
and its lofty but humble parameters (as-
saqaf al-marfoo’ – ( )السقف المرفوع5) and
this tract of land (al-bahri - )والبح ِر
filled with population (al-masjoor -
( )المسجور6), verily, the doom
appointed by your Lord is certainly
﴾ يَوْ َم٨﴿ ﴾ َّما لَهُ ِمن دَافِ ٍع٧﴿ اب َربِّكَ لَ َواقِع َ إِ َّن َع َذgoing to take place (7). There is no
one who could avert it (8). The stage
ْال ِجبَا ُل ﴾ َوت َِسي ُر٩﴿ َموْ رًا ال َّس َما ُء تَ ُمو ُر
when the upper class of society (as-
﴾ الَّ ِذينَ هُ ْم فِي١١﴿ َ﴾ فَ َويْل يَوْ َمئِ ٍذ لِّ ْل ُم َك ِّذبِين١٠﴿ َس ْيرًاSamaa’u – )السما ُءwill be shaken
(tamoor – )تمو ُرviolently (9), and the
﴾١٢﴿ َض يَ ْل َعبُون ٍ ْ خَ وfirmly established chieftains (al-
jibaalu – )الجبا ُل
ِ will be moved from
their foundations (taseeru – ( )تسیر10),
woe, then, on that stage to all those
who ascribed falsity to the truth (11),
who continue to play with false
discourse (12).
That is the time when they will be
﴾ هَ ٰـ ِذ ِه النَّا ُر الَّتِي١٣﴿ َعا ً َار َجهَنَّ َم د
ِ يَوْ َم يُ َد ُّعونَ إِلَ ٰى نthrust into the hellfire with a great
﴾ أَفَ ِسحْ ر هَ ٰـ َذا أَ ْم أَنتُ ْم ََل١٤﴿ َ ُكنتُم بِهَا تُ َك ِّذبُونpush (13) and told that this was the
fire which they had been calling a lie
﴾ اصْ لَوْ هَا فَاصْ بِرُوا أَوْ ََل تَصْ بِرُوا١٥﴿ َْصرُون ِ ( تُب14). “Is it, then, just a delusion (sehr

﴾١٦﴿ َ )سحر – َس َواء َعلَ ْي ُك ْم ۚ إِنَّ َما تُجْ َزوْ نَ َما ُكنتُ ْم تَ ْع َملُونor is it that you failed to
perceive or visualize see it? (15) So
endure the burning thereof (aslaw-ha
– ;)اصلوھاthen, bear yourself with
patience, or impatience, it is not going
to make a difference in your condition
(sawa’an ‘alayikum – ;)سواء علیکمit, in
fact, is the recompense for the way
you used to conduct yourselves (16)”.
﴾ فَا ِك ِهينَ بِ َما آتَاهُ ْم١٧﴿ ت َونَ ِع ٍيم ٍ إِ َّن ْال ُمتَّقِينَ فِي َجنَّاVerily, the God-fearing/the
circumspect would be in a state of
﴾ ُكلُوا َوا ْش َربُوا١٨﴿ اب ْال َج ِح ِيم َ َربُّهُ ْم َو َوقَاهُ ْم َربُّهُ ْم َع َذpeace and protection(fi jannaatin – فی
ّ
ٍ ﴾ ُمتَّ ِكئِينَ َعلَ ٰى ُسر١٩﴿ َ )جنات هَنِيئًا بِ َما ُكنتُ ْم تَ ْع َملُونand in comfort and joys (17);
ُر
Happy and enjoying (faakiheen –
﴾ َوالَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا٢٠﴿ ُور ِعي ٍن ٍ ِ ح ب م ُ هَا ن ْجوَّ َز و َ ۚ ة
ٍ َ ف وُ ف ْص م
َّ )فاکھینwhat their Lord has given to
ان أَ ْل َح ْقنَا بِ ِه ْم ُذرِّ يَّتَهُ ْم َو َما أَلَ ْتنَاهُم ٍ َواتَّبَ َع ْتهُ ْم ُذرِّ يَّتُهُم بِإِي َمthem while their Lord has saved them
from the punishment of hell (18).
ب َ َس َ
ك ا م ب ئ
َِ ٍ ِ ْ ر م ا ُّلكُ ۚ ء ٍ يْ شَ ن م
ِّ ِ ِ َ م هلم ع َ نْ م ِّ “Gain intellect/knowledge (kulu – ) ُکلُوا
﴾٢١﴿ َر ِهينand absorb it (ashrabu – )اشربُواto
your advantage and benefit from it
(hani’an – " )ھنیئاin return for your
past deeds (19), while firmly
established (muttaki’eena – کئین ِ ّ ) ُمتin
a state of happiness line after line
(masfufatin – )مصفوفۃ, and we would
have made them companions
(zawajjnahum – )ز ّوجناھُمof those
selected ones who will be free from
any vice (hoorin ‘eenin – ( )حور عین20).
And as for those who attained to faith
and whose offspring have followed
them in faith, we shall unite them
with their offspring and shall not let
any of their deeds go waste. Every
human being will be held in pledge
for whatever he has earned (21).
And we shall bestow on them
َ﴾ يَتَنَازَ ُعون٢٢﴿ ََوأَ ْم َد ْدنَاهُم بِفَا ِكهَ ٍة َولَحْ ٍم ِّم َّما يَ ْشتَهُون
enjoyment (faakihatin – )فا ِکھۃand
ْ ْ َ َّ ْ
﴾٢٣﴿ فِيهَا َكأسًا َل لغو فِيهَا َو ََل تَأثِيمclose relationship (lahmin – )لحمwith
whatever they shall desire (22).

Therein, they will draw forth
(yatanaaza’oon – )یتنازعونcups full of
knowledge (ka’san – )کاساwhich will
not have an element of empty talk or
anything evil or wicked (23).
لُ ْؤلُؤ َكأَنَّهُ ْم لَّهُ ْم ِغ ْل َمان َعلَ ْي ِه ْم ُ َُويَط
وف And their own emotions and
excitement (ghilmanun – ) ِغلمانwould
ْض
ٍ بَع َعلَ ٰى ُ بَ ْع
ضهُ ْم ﴾ َوأَ ْقبَ َل٢٤﴿ َّم ْكنُون circulate around them safeguarding
قَ ْب ُل فِي أَ ْهلِنَا ُكنَّا إِنَّا ﴾ قَالُوا٢٥﴿ َيَتَ َسا َءلُون them (yatoofu ‘alayihim – )یطُوفُ علی ِھم
as if they were pearls placed in shells
ابَ َع َذ َعلَ ْينَا َو َوقَانَا ُ﴾ فَ َم َّن اللَّـه٢٦﴿ َُم ْشفِقِين (24); and some of them would be
ُّ﴾ إِنَّا ُكنَّا ِمن قَ ْب ُل نَ ْد ُعوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُ َو ْالبَر٢٧﴿ وم
ِ ال َّس ُم exclaiming in wonder (yatasa’aloon –
)یتساءلونwhen meeting others (25).
﴾٢٨﴿ َّحي ُم
ِ الر They would say: “In fact, earlier,
when we were among our own people,
we were fearful (26). But the God has
graced us with favor and saved us
from the affliction of despair (‘azaab
as-samoon – ( )عذاب السموم27).
We certainly were invoking Him in
َو ََل بِ َكا ِه ٍن ََربِّك ِ بِنِ ْع َم
ت َأَنت فَ َما ْفَ َذ ِّكر earlier times; verily, He is the one
ْبَ ﴾ أَ ْم يَقُولُونَ َشا ِعر نَّتَ َربَّصُ بِ ِه َري٢٩﴿ َمجْ نُو ٍن truly benign and dispenser of grace
(28)”. Therefore, keep in mind that
َِّمن َم َع ُكم ﴾ قُلْ ت ََربَّصُوا فَإِنِّي٣٠﴿ ْال َمنُو ِن with your Sustainer’s grace, you are
﴾ أَ ْم تَأْ ُم ُرهُ ْم أَحْ ََل ُمهُم بِهَ ٰـ َذا ۚ أَ ْم هُ ْم٣١﴿ َصين
ِ ِّْال ُمت ََرب not a traditional soothsayer nor are
you confused or possessed (29). Do
ََّل تَقَ َّولَهُ ۚ بَل َيَقُولُون ﴾ أَ ْم٣٢﴿ َطَا ُغون قَوْ م they say: “He is a liar intellectual
﴾٣٣﴿ َي ُْؤ ِمنُون (shaa’irun – ;)شا ِعرlet us wait for a
benefit of doubt for him (rayib al-
manoon – ( ”)ریب المنُون30). Tell them,
“Do wait all of you; and I too am with
you in your waiting” (31). Is it their
dreaming that bids them to speak like
this? Are they a community of
arrogant people? (32) Do they say,
“He himself has fabricated all that”;
and hence they would rather not
believe it (33)?
﴾ أَ ْم ُخلِقُوا٣٤﴿ َصا ِدقِين ٍ فَ ْليَأْتُوا بِ َح ِدي
َ ث ِّم ْثلِ ِه إِن َكانُوا They should then bring some other
discourse like it – if they speak the

﴾ أَ ْم خَ لَقُوا٣٥﴿ َِم ْن َغي ِْر َش ْي ٍء أَ ْم هُ ُم ْالخَ الِقُون truth (34). Have they been created by
some other entity; or are they
﴾ أَ ْم ِعن َدهُ ْم٣٦﴿ َض ۚ بَل ََّل يُوقِنُون َ ْت َو ْاْلَر ِ اوا
َ ال َّس َم themselves the creators?(35). Is it
﴾ أَ ْم لَهُ ْم ُسلَّم٣٧﴿ َصي ِْطرُون َ خَ زَ ائِ ُن َربِّكَ أَ ْم هُ ُم ْال ُم they who have created the Universe
and the Earth? But they are not
بِس ُْلطَا ٍن ُم ْستَ ِم ُعهُم ِ ْفِي ِه ۚ فَ ْليَأ
ت َيَ ْستَ ِمعُون
certain about it (36). Do they have
﴾ أَ ْم تَسْأَلُهُ ْم٣٩﴿ ََات َولَ ُك ُم ْالبَنُون
ُ ﴾ أَ ْم لَهُ ْالبَن٣٨﴿ ُّمبِي ٍن their Sustainer’s treasures with
them? Or are they the authority over
﴾ أَ ْم ِعن َدهُ ُم ْال َغيْبُ فَهُ ْم٤٠﴿ َأَجْ رًا فَهُم ِّمن َّم ْغ َر ٍم ُّم ْثقَلُون
it (al-musayitiroon – صیط ُرونِ ( )ال ُم37)?
﴾٤١﴿ َيَ ْكتُبُون Do they have some means (sullamun –
سلّم
ُ ) through which they actually hear
about such things; so then their
listener should bring a clear proof of
that?(38) Has he got only female
descendants with him (banaatu – )بنات,
while you have got the males?(39) Do
you ask them for a remuneration so
they fear of getting burdened with
heavy debt? (40). Do they have
knowledge of the future which,
therefore, they write down? (41).
هُ ُم َكفَرُوا ََك ْيدًا ۚ فَالَّ ِذين َي ُِري ُدون أَ ْم Do they wish to play tricks? However,
﴾ أَ ْم لَهُ ْم إِلَ ٰـه َغ ْي ُر اللَّـ ِه ۚ ُسب َْحانَ اللَّـ ِه٤٢﴿ َْال َم ِكي ُدون the deniers of the truth are the ones
who are going to be tricked (42). Do
﴾٤٣﴿ ََع َّما يُ ْش ِر ُكون they have an authority other than the
God; while the God enjoys a limitless
glory compared to what they associate
with Him (43)?
And if they happen to see an eclipse
َوإِن يَ َروْ ا ِك ْسفًا ِّمنَ ال َّس َما ِء َساقِطًا يَقُولُوا َس َحاب (kisfan – ) ِکسفاin the heavens and be in
a perplexed state (saaqitan – )ساقطا
﴾ فَ َذرْ هُ ْم َحتَّ ٰى ي ََُلقُوا يَوْ َمهُ ُم الَّ ِذي فِي ِه٤٤﴿ َّمرْ ُكوم due to their miserable knowledge,
﴾٤٥﴿ َيُصْ َعقُون they would only dismiss it by calling it
a mass of clouds (44). Therefore, leave
them alone so that they may
eventually face that hour of theirs
which will turn them terror-stricken
(45).
يَوْ َم ََل يُ ْغنِي َع ْنهُ ْم َك ْي ُدهُ ْم َش ْيئًا َو ََل هُ ْم That is the day when their tricks
would not benefit them any bit, and

َ﴾ َوإِ َّن لِلَّ ِذينَ ظَلَ ُموا َع َذابًا ُدونَ ٰ َذلِك٤٦﴿ َُنصرُون َ يnor would they be succored (46). And
indeed for those who committed
َ ِّ﴾ َواصْ بِرْ لِ ُح ْك ِم َرب٤٧﴿ ََولَ ٰـ ِك َّن أَ ْكثَ َرهُ ْم ََل يَ ْعلَ ُمون
ك
breach of justice (zalamu – )ظلموا
َِحين كَ َِّرب بِ َح ْم ِد َ
ْبِأ ْعيُنِنَا ۚ َو َسبِّح َّ
َ فَإِنكthere’s suffering apart from that, but
most of them are not aware of it (47).
﴾٤٩﴿ ُوم َ َ﴾ َو ِمنَ اللَّي ِْل فَ َسبِّحْ هُ َوإِ ْدب٤٨﴿ تَقُو ُم
ِ ار ال ُّنج So you make sure to remain steadfast
(asbir – )اصبِرwaiting for your
Sustainer’s final decree (li-hukmi
Rabbik – )لِ ُحکم ربّکas you constantly
remain in our sight; and keep
working for the glory of your
Sustainer while you have already
taken up a firm stand (heena taqoom
– ( )حین تقوم48); and in the midst of
darkness of evil (min al-layil – )من الّلیل,
keep working hard to establish His
authority (sabbih-hu – ُ)سبِّحہand keep
a close follow up (idbaar – )اِدبارwith
the descended installments of Quran
(an-najoom –( ) النجوم49).

a'lamu bikum iz ansha akum minal ardi ّ

﴾٨﴿ َعسِ ٌر caller; the deniers of truth
exclaiming, “this is a day of
calamity”(8).
Long before them Noah’s people also
ٌوح َف َك َّذبُوا َعبْدَ َنا َو َقالُوا َمجْ ُنون ٍ ت َق ْبلَ ُه ْم َق ْو ُم ُنْ َك َّذ َبrefused to obey our obedient servant
(‘abda-na – )عبدناand declared him
﴾٩﴿از ُد ِج َر ْ َوmad and repelled (azdujira – )ازد ُِجر
him (9). So, he called out to his Lord,
﴾١٠﴿ ْ“ َفدَ َعا َر َّب ُه أَ ِّني َم ْغلُوبٌ َفان َتصِ رI am overcome (maghloob –)مغلُوب, so
vindicate me”.(10). So, we conquered
(fatahna – )فتحناthe domain (abwaab –
﴾١١﴿ اب ال َّس َما ِء ِب َما ٍء ُّم ْن َهم ٍِر َ َف َف َتحْ َنا أَب َْو
)ابوابof the royalty (as-samaa – )السماء
by sending down series (munhamir –
) ُمنہمرof guidance (maa’a – ( )ماء11),
and we made the people/masses (al-
ض ُعيُو انا َف ْال َت َقى ْال َما ُء َعلَ ٰى أَمْ ٍر َق ْد َ ْ َو َفجَّ رْ َنا ْاْلَرardh – )االرضto burst out like springs
of water, so that eventually our
﴾١٢﴿ قُد َِرguidance (alma’ – )الما ُءmet (altaqi –
)التقیits determined target/purpose
(qudira – ( )قُ ِدر12).
And we made him responsible
﴾١٣﴿ اح َو ُدس ٍُر ْ َ ِ ( َو َح َم ْل َناهُ َعلَ ٰى َذاhamal-na-hu – )وحملناہover a
ٍ ت أل َو
Discipline having rules and
regulations (dhaati alwaahin – ت ِ ذا
)الواح and a society closely
joined/nailed together (dusurin – سر ُ ) ُد

﴾١٤﴿ ان ُكف َِر َ َتجْ ِري ِبأَعْ ُينِ َنا َج َزا اء لِّ َمن َكwhich ran/flowed smoothly in our
sight as a reward for those who had
﴾١٥﴿ َولَ َقد َّت َر ْك َنا َها آ َي اة َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِرbeen rejected with ingratitude (kaan
kufira – ( )کان ُکفِر14) .
We have left this episode behind
﴾١٦﴿ ان َع َذ ِابي َو ُن ُذ ِر َ ْف َك َ ( َف َكيtaraknaha- )ترکناھاas a sign; is there
anyone to learn from it?(15) So, how
grievous was My punishment and the
results of My fore-warnings !(16)
﴾١٧﴿ آن ل ِِّلذ ْك ِر َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِر َ ْ َولَ َق ْد َيسَّرْ َنا ْالقُرThat’s why We have made this Quran
available in abundance (yassarna –
سرنا
ّ )یto study and remember; so is

there anyone to comprehend it (17).
ُ ُ
﴾١٨﴿ان َعذ ِابي َونذ ِر َ َ
َ ْف ك َ َ ٌ ْ َّ َ
َ كذ َبت َعاد فكيThe People of ‘Aad also denied the
truth; so look how grievous was My
س ٍ ْصرا ا فِي َي ْو ِم َنح َ ْصر ْ َ
َ إِ َّنا أرْ َسل َنا َعلَي ِْه ْم ِريحا اpunishment and the result of My
warnings (18). We had sent over them
﴾١٩﴿ مُّسْ َتمِرa punishment (riihun – )ریحloud and
furious (Sarsaran – )صرصراfor a
prolonged (mustamirrin – ) ُمست ِم ّر
period (youmi – )یومof misfortune
﴾٢٠﴿ اس َكأ َّن ُه ْم أعْ َجا ُز َن ْخ ٍل مُّن َقع ٍِر َ َ َ نز ُع ال َّن ِ ( َتnahsin – ()نحس19), destabilizing the
people as though they were trunks of
﴾٢١﴿ ان َع َذ ِابي َو ُن ُذ ِر َ ْف َك َ َف َكيdate-palms uprooted (20). So, how
grievous was My punishment and the
﴾٢٢﴿آن ل ِِّلذ ْك ِر َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِر َ ْ َولَ َق ْد َيسَّرْ َنا ْالقُرresults of My fore-warnings (21).
That’s why We have made this Quran
﴾٢٣﴿ ت َثمُو ُد ِبال ُّن ُذ ِر ْ َك َّذ َبavailable in abundance (yassarna –
سرنا
ّ )یto study and remember; so is
there anyone to comprehend it (22).
َ َف َقالُوا أَ َب َشرا ا ِّم َّنا َواح اِدا َّن َّت ِب ُع ُه إِ َّنا إِ اذا لَّ ِفيThe People of Thamud also refused to
ض ًَل ٍل
accept Our fore-warnings (23). So
﴾٢٤﴿ َو ُسع ٍُر
they said: “Should we follow a lone
mortal from amongst us? Indeed we
then would surely be in error and
﴾٢٥﴿ الذ ْكرُ َعلَ ْي ِه مِن َب ْينِ َنا َب ْل ه َُو َك َّذابٌ أَشِ ٌر ِّ أَأ ُ ْلق َِيmadness.(24) Was the admonition to
be sent to him alone from amongst us;
he is but an insolent liar.”(25) They
َ ْ
﴾٢٦﴿ َّن الكذابُ اْلشِ ُر َّ َ ْ ا َ َ
َ َس َيعْ لمwere going to know in the coming
ِ ُون غدا م
days who the insolent liar was (26).
﴾٢٧﴿ ْ إِ َّنا مُرْ سِ لُو ال َّنا َق ِة ِف ْت َن اة لَّ ُه ْم َفارْ َت ِق ْب ُه ْم َواصْ َط ِبرWe were to send Our guidance (an-
naaqati – )النّاق ِۃas a test for them; so
بٍ ْ َو َن ِّب ْئ ُه ْم أَنَّ ْال َما َء قِسْ َم ٌة َب ْي َن ُه ْم ۚ ُك ُّل شِ رwatch them, be patient (27) and
inform them that the divine guidance
﴾٢٨﴿ ضر ٌ َ
َ ( مُّحْ تal-ma’a – )الماءwas going to make
divisions between them; every take
(shirbin – )شرب ِ from it was going to
be disputed/debated (muhtadharun –
َ
﴾٢٩﴿ صا ِح َب ُه ْم َف َت َعاط ٰى َف َع َق َر َ () ُمحتضر َف َنادَ ْوا28).
Then they summoned one of their
﴾٣٠﴿ ان َع َذ ِابي َو ُن ُذ ِر َ ْف َك َ َف َكيallies (saahiba-hum – )صاحب ُھم ِ and
together committed the ignoble deed

(fa-ta’aata – )فتعاطی, and rendered it
hamstrung (fa-‘aqara – ( )فعقر29). So,
how grievous was My punishment
and the results of My fore-warnings
(30).
َ إِ َّنا أَرْ َس ْل َنا َعلَي ِْه ْم
صي َْح اة َواحِدَ اة َف َكا ُنوا َكهَشِ ِيم We had sent over them a single blast
of Our punishment, and they became
﴾٣١﴿ ْالمُحْ َتظِ ِر
like dry stubble trampled upon (31).
That’s why We have made this Quran
﴾٣٢﴿ آن ل ِِّلذ ْك ِر َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِر
َ َْولَ َق ْد َيسَّرْ َنا ْالقُر available in abundance (yassarna –
سرنا ّ )یto study and remember; so is
there anyone to comprehend it (32).
The People of Lot also rejected Our
﴾٣٣﴿ ت َق ْو ُم لُوطٍ ِبال ُّن ُذ ِر
ْ َك َّذ َب fore-warnings (33).
Indeed We sent upon them storm of
إِ َّنا أَرْ َس ْل َنا َعلَي ِْه ْم َحاصِ باا إِ ََّّل آ َل لُوطٍ ۚ َّنجَّ ْي َناهُم calamities (haasiban – )حاصباexcept
﴾٣٤﴿ ِب َس َح ٍر the companions of Lot whom We
saved by turning them from their
community’s way/conduct (bi-saharin
– ()بِسحر34).
﴾٣٥﴿ ِّنعْ َم اة مِّنْ عِ ن ِد َنا ۚ َك ٰ َذل َِك َنجْ ِزي َمن َش َك َر It was a blessing from Us; this is the
way We reward the grateful (35).
َ َولَ َق ْد أَ َنذ َرهُم َب ْط َش َت َنا َف َت َم
﴾٣٦﴿ ار ْوا ِبال ُّن ُذ ِر Though Lot had warned them of Our
punishment, yet they disputed the
warnings (36) and they had tempted
ض ْي ِف ِه َف َط َمسْ َنا أَعْ ُي َن ُه ْم َف ُذوقُوا
َ َولَ َق ْد َر َاو ُدوهُ َعن him to divert from his righteous path
(raawadu-hu ‘un – )راودُوہُ عنin the
﴾٣٧﴿ َع َذ ِابي َو ُن ُذ ِر
face of distress faced by him (fi
dhayifi-hi – )فی ضیفِ ِہ. Therefore, we
blotted out their vision/foresight, and
then they tasted My punishment and
results of My forewarnings (37).
And they had to endure (sabbaha-
﴾٣٨﴿ صب ََّحهُم ب ُْك َر اة َع َذابٌ مُّسْ َتقِر
َ َولَ َق ْد hum – )صبّح ُھمan impending sustained
calamity (‘azabun mustaqirrun – عذاب
﴾٣٩﴿َف ُذوقُوا َع َذ ِابي َو ُن ُذ ِر () ُمستقِ ّر38).
So they tasted My punishment and
﴾٤٠﴿ آن ل ِِّلذ ْك ِر َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِر
َ َْولَ َق ْد َيسَّرْ َنا ْالقُر the results of My fore-warnings (39).
That’s why We have made this Quran
available in abundance (yassarna –

﴾٤١﴿ َولَ َق ْد َجا َء آ َل فِرْ َع ْو َن ال ُّن ُذ ُر there anyone to comprehend it (40).
And forewarnings had come also to
ٍ َك َّذبُوا ِبآ َياتِ َنا ُكلِّ َها َفأ َ َخ ْذ َنا ُه ْم أَ ْخ َذ َع ِز
﴾٤٢﴿ يز ُّم ْق َتد ٍِر the people of the Pharaoh (41). They
too denied the truth of all of Our
signs; so We seized them with the
power of One Mighty, having overall
أَ ُك َّفارُ ُك ْم َخ ْي ٌر مِّنْ أُولَ ٰـئِ ُك ْم أَ ْم لَ ُكم َب َرا َءةٌ فِي Authority (42).
﴾٤٣﴿ الزب ُِر ُّ Are your disbelievers better than
those earlier ones, or is their
exemption for you in the
Scriptures?(43)
َ ُ أَ ْم َيقُول
﴾٤٤﴿ ٌون َنحْ نُ َجمِي ٌع مُّن َتصِ ر Do they reckon they are in unity
helping each other?(44) Soon their
َ َُّس ُيه َْز ُم ْال َجمْ ُع َوي َُول
﴾٤٥﴿ ون ال ُّدب َُر assembly is going to be defeated and
they will be turning on their backs
(45). Nevertheless, the time of fate
﴾٤٦﴿ َُّب ِل السَّا َع ُة َم ْوعِ ُد ُه ْم َوالسَّا َع ُة أَ ْد َه ٰى َوأَ َمر
has been appointed for them and
their fate is more disastrous and
bitterer (46).
Indeed, the criminals are lost in error
﴾٤٧﴿ ض ًَل ٍل َو ُسع ٍُر َ إِنَّ ْالمُجْ ِرم
َ ِين فِي and madness (47). The day they are
dragged into the fire of remorse on
َّار َعلَ ٰى وُ جُوه ِِه ْم ُذوقُوا َمس
ِ ُون فِي ال َّن
َ َي ْو َم يُسْ َحب account of their wrong ideals, they
﴾٤٨﴿ َس َق َر would taste the touch of burning
(saqar – ()سقر48). Indeed, we have
ٍ إِ َّنا ُك َّل َشيْ ٍء َخلَ ْق َناهُ ِب َق
﴾٤٩﴿ دَر created everything with laws and
values (qadar –()قدر49).
َ ْح ِب ْال َب َ
﴾٥٠﴿ ص ِر ٍ َو َما أمْ ُر َنا إِ ََّّل َواحِدَ ةٌ َكلَم And Our command has a unique
quality; it takes effect like the
َ َولَ َق ْد أَهْ لَ ْك َنا أَ ْش َي
﴾٥١﴿ اع ُك ْم َف َه ْل مِن ُّم َّدك ٍِر twinkling of an eye (50). And We have
destroyed your kind earlier too; so is
there anyone who may take heed?(51)
And everything they did, the result
ُّ َو ُك ُّل َشيْ ٍء َف َعلُوهُ فِي
﴾٥٢﴿الزب ُِر thereof was made known in the
Scriptures (52).
And every small and big act of theirs
﴾٥٣﴿ ير مُّسْ َت َط ٌر
ٍ ِِير َو َكب
ٍ صغَ َو ُك ُّل
is recorded in writing (53). Indeed the
God-fearing will be settled in a life of
﴾٥٤﴿ ت َو َن َه ٍر َ إِنَّ ْال ُم َّتق
ٍ ِين فِي َج َّنا peace and protection full of bounties

(54), on the foundations of truth and
﴾٥٥﴿ فِي َم ْق َع ِد صِ ْد ٍق عِ ندَ َملِيكٍ ُّم ْق َتد ٍِر honor (fi maq’adi sidqin – صدق
ِ )فی مقع ِد
in the company of a Sovereign
Authority/Ruler (55).”

beings (10). In it are fruits
﴾١١﴿ ات ْاْلَ ْك َم ِام
ُ فِيهَا فَا ِكهَة َوالنَّ ْخ ُل َذ
(faakihatun – )فاکھۃand date palms
﴾١٢﴿ ان ِ َْو ْال َحبُّ ُذو ْال َعص
ُ ف َوال َّري َْح with sheathed clusters (11) and the
grains (wa al-habbu – ُّ ) َو ْال َحبgrowing
tall in stalks with sweet-smelling
plants (12).
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
ِ َفَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذب
﴾١٣﴿ان
powers would you both groups
deny?(13)
He has created man from the dried
ِ ال َك ْالفَ َّخ
﴾١٤﴿ ار ٍ صَ ص ْل ِْ ق
َ اْلن َسانَ ِمن َ َخَ ل
combination of water and earth
(Salsaal – )صلصالas a boastful entity
(kal-fakhkhaar – فخار ّ ّ)کال, (14) and its
ٍ َّ ج ِّمن ن
﴾١٥﴿ ار ٍ ار َّ ق ْال َج
ِ ان ِمن َّم َ ََوخَ ل
criminal/rebellious elements/instincts
(al-jaanna – ّ )الجانby mixing the
ingredient of fire of rage (maarijin
min naar – ( )مارج من نار15).
﴾١٦﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(16)
He is the Sustainer and Nourisher of
﴾١٧﴿ َربُّ ْال َم ْش ِرقَي ِْن َو َربُّ ْال َم ْغ ِربَ ْي ِن the entire world and the Universe
(17). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
﴾١٨﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
powers would you both deny?(18). He
﴾١٩﴿ َم َر َج ْالبَحْ َري ِْن يَ ْلتَقِيَا ِن has combined the two seas meeting
each other (19) in a way that between
﴾٢٠﴿ بَ ْينَهُ َما بَرْ زَ خ ََّل يَ ْب ِغيَا ِن
them is an invisible barrier
(barzakhun – )برزخthey may not
transgress (la yabghiyaan – )ال یبغیان
﴾٢١﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
(20). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny? (21)
Out of those two come forth pearls
ُ يَ ْخ ُر ُج ِم ْنهُ َما اللُّ ْؤلُ ُؤ َو ْال َمرْ َج
﴾٢٢﴿ ان
and the coral (22). Then, which of
﴾٢٣﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن your Sustainer’s powers would you
both deny?(23). And He owns the
﴾٢٤﴿ آت فِي ْالبَحْ ِر َك ْاْلَ ْع ََل ِم
ُ ار ْال ُمن َش ِ َولَهُ ْال َج َو elevated (al-munsha’aatu – ُ)ال ُمنشآت
moving bodies (al-jawaar – )الجوارin
the vastness of space (fil-bahr – فی
)البحرlike the distinguishing marks of
authority (al-a’laam – ( )االعالم24).

﴾٢٥﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(25)
﴾٢٦﴿ ُكلُّ َم ْن َعلَ ْيهَا فَا ٍن
All that exists thereupon is going to
end/perish (26) but the majestic and
honorable entity of your Sustainer
ِ ْ َويَ ْبقَ ٰى َوجْ هُ َربِّكَ ُذو ْال َج ََل ِل َو
﴾٢٧﴿ اْل ْك َر ِام
lives for eternity (27).
﴾٢٨﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(28)
ِ ْت َو ْاْلَر
ض ۚ ُك َّل يَوْ ٍم هُ َو فِي َ يَسْأَلُهُ َمن فِي ال َّس َم
ِ اوا All that which exists in the Universe
﴾٢٩﴿ َشأْ ٍن and on Earth implore him for its
sustenance (yas’alu-hu – ُ ;)یسالُہall the
time He stays in a state of glory (fi
﴾٣٠﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن shaan – ( )فی شان29). Then, which of
your sustainer’s powers would you
﴾٣١﴿ غ لَ ُك ْم أَيُّهَ الثَّقَ ََل ِن
ُ َسنَ ْف ُر
both deny? (30) Soon shall we be free
﴾٣٢﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن to deal with you, O you both
big/weighty groups (31). Then, which
of your Sustainer’s powers would you
both deny? (32)
O multitudes of powerful and
نس إِ ِن ا ْستَطَ ْعتُ ْم أَن تَنفُ ُذوا ِم ْن
ِ اْلِ ْ يَا َم ْع َش َر ْال ِجنِّ َو common men, if you have the capacity
ض فَانفُ ُذوا ۚ ََل تَنفُ ُذونَ إِ ََّل ِ ْت َو ْاْلَر ِ اوا ِ َأَ ْقط
َ ار ال َّس َم to go beyond the chain of celestial
bodies and the earth, then do it. You
﴾٣٣﴿ بِس ُْلطَا ٍن
would not be able to pass through
﴾٣٤﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن except with a kind of authorization
(33). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(34)
ٍ َّ يُرْ َس ُل َعلَ ْي ُك َما ُش َواظ ِّمن ن
ار َونُ َحاس فَ ََل You will be exposed to the flames of
fire and radiation and rendered
﴾٣٥﴿ َص َرا ِن
ِ تَنت helpless (35).
﴾٣٦﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(36)
And a time will come when the
﴾٣٧﴿ َت َورْ َدةً َكال ِّدهَا ِن ِ َّفَإ ِ َذا ان َشق
ْ ت ال َّس َما ُء فَ َكان Universe is opened up (anshaqqat-is-
Samaa’u – سما ُء ِ ّ )انشقand become a
ّ ت ال
pleasant resort/destination (wardatan
﴾٣٨﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن – )وردۃresembling a lengthy, smooth
road (ka-ad-dahaan – ( )کالدّھان37).
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(38)

ٌّ فَيَوْ َمئِ ٍذ ََّل يُسْأ َ ُل عَن َذنبِ ِه إِنس َو ََل َج
﴾٣٩﴿ ان And on that particular stage neither a
common man nor the
criminal/offender one would be
﴾٤٠﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن interrogated about his
disobedience/sin/transgression (39).
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(40).
Because then, the criminals would be
ِ بِ ِسي َماهُ ْم فَي ُْؤخَ ُذ بِالنَّ َوا
صي َف ْال ُمجْ ِر ُمون
ُ يُع َْر
recognized with their looks and
﴾٤١﴿ َو ْاْلَ ْقد َِام features (seemaa-hum – )سیماھُمand
shall be held under full control (bin-
nawaasi – )بالنّواصیand strict
﴾٤٢﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن arrangements (al-aqdaam – )االقدام
(41). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(42)
﴾٤٣﴿ َهَ ٰـ ِذ ِه َجهَنَّ ُم الَّتِي يُ َك ِّذبُ بِهَا ْال ُمجْ ِر ُمون This will be the hell which the
criminal ones have been calling a lie
(43), where the burning despair
﴾٤٤﴿ يَطُوفُونَ بَ ْينَهَا َوبَ ْينَ َح ِم ٍيم آ ٍن (hamimin aanin – )حمیم آنwould be
hovering over them (44). Then, which
﴾٤٥﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
of your Sustainer’s powers would you
both deny?(45)
ِ َولِ َم ْن خَ افَ َمقَا َم َربِّ ِه َجنَّتAnd for those who took due
﴾٤٦﴿َان
cognizance of their Sustainer’s
exalted status there will be two-fold
﴾٤٧﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِنenvironment of peace and protection
(46). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(47)
﴾٤٨﴿ َذ َواتَا أَ ْفنَا ٍنBoth of those dimensions would be
consisting of diversity and versatility
(afnaan – ()افنان48).
﴾٤٩﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(49).
﴾٥٠﴿ َان تَجْ ِريَا ِن ِ فِي ِه َما َع ْينBoth of those would have flowing
springs/sources of knowledge (50).
﴾٥١﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(51).
Therein would be rejoicing and

﴾٥٢﴿انِ فِي ِه َما ِمن ُكلِّ فَا ِكهَ ٍة زَ وْ َجpleasantries of multiple kinds
(faakihatin zawjaan – ( )فا ِکھۃ زوجان52).
﴾٥٣﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(53)
They would be firmly settled
ق ۚ َو َجنَى َ َش ب
ٍ طائِنُهَا ِم ْن إِ ْستَب َْر ٍ ( ُمتَّ ِكئِينَ َعلَ ٰى فُ ُرmuttaki’ena - )متّکئینover an
﴾٥٤﴿ ْال َجنَّتَي ِْن دَا ٍنexpanded space (furushin - )فُ ُرشthe
interior of which (bataa’inu-ha –
)بطائنہا is decorated in a
shining/gleaming way(min istabraqin
– )من استبرقand acquisitions and
achievements from that multi-
dimensional environment of peace
and protection (al-jannatain – )الجنّتین
would be within easy reach (54).

﴾٥٥﴿ فَبِأيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِنThen, which of your sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(55)
Therein would be extreme fringes
ْ
ف لَ ْم يَط ِم ْثه َُّن إِنس قَ ْبلَهُ ْم َو ََل ِ ْات الطَّر ُ اص َر ِ َ( فِي ِه َّن قtarf – )طرفof reserved spaces
(qaasirat – )قاصرات
ِ whom none of the
﴾٥٦﴿ ان ٌّ َج
common men and those with special
powers/capabilities would have
penetrated (yatmith-hunna – ّ)یطمث ُھن
﴾٥٧﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
before them (56). Then, which of your
Sustainer’s powers would you both
deny?(57)
﴾٥٨﴿ ان ُ وت َو ْال َمرْ َج ُ ُ َكأَنَّه َُّن ْاليَاقThose would be as beautiful as the
rubies and the coral (58). Then, which
﴾٥٩﴿ان ِ َ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبof your Sustainer’s powers would you
ِ ْ ان إِ ََّل
ُ اْلحْ َس
﴾٦٠﴿ ان ِ اْلحْ َس ِ ْ هَلْ َجزَ ا ُءboth deny?(59) What could be the
reward of goodness except the
goodness in return (60). Then, which
﴾٦١﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِنof your Sustainer’s powers would you
both deny?(61)

﴾٦٤﴿ ُم ْدهَا َّمتَا ِن powers would you both deny?(63)
These may suddenly take them by
surprise (mudhaamataan – ) ُمدھا ّمتان
ِّ ُ َ
﴾٦٥﴿ ( فَبِأيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّك َما تُ َكذبَا ِن64). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(65)
﴾٦٦﴿ َان نَضَّاخَ تَا ِن ِ فِي ِه َما َع ْينTwo springs of knowledge would be
gushing forth (‘ayinaani
nadhdhaakhtaan – ضاختان ّ )عینان ن
ِ in
﴾٦٧﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِن
them too (66). Then, which of your
Sustainer’s powers would you both
deny?(67) In both of them will be
﴾٦٨﴿ فِي ِه َما فَا ِكهَة َون َْخل َو ُر َّمان
enjoyment and cheerfulness
(faakihatun – )فا ِکھۃ, and best of
choices (nakhl – )نخلand abundance
﴾٦٩﴿ان ِ َ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبof bounties (rummaan – ( ) ُرمان68).

Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(69) In
﴾٧٠﴿ فِي ِه َّن خَ ي َْرات ِح َسان
those will be things excellent and
beautiful (khayiraatun hisaanun –
()خیرات حسان70). Then, which of your
﴾٧١﴿ان ِ َ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبSustainer’s powers would you both
deny?(71)
﴾٧٢﴿ ُورات فِي ْال ِخيَ ِام َ حُور َّم ْقصThey will be contending/competing
therein for the opportunities of glory
and superiority (Hoorun – )حور ُ
keeping within the limitations
(maqsooraat – )مقصوراتof the innate
state of their minds/souls (fil-
﴾٧٣﴿ فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِنkhayaam – ( )فی الخیام72). Then, which
of your Sustainer’s powers would you
both deny?(73) None of the common
ٌّ ط ِم ْثه َُّن إِنس قَ ْبلَهُ ْم َو ََل َج
﴾٧٤﴿ ان ْ َلَ ْم ي
men or the sharp and vigorous of
intellect (jaannun – )جانwould have
availed of those opportunities
﴾٧٥﴿ ( فَبِأَيِّ َآَل ِء َربِّ ُك َما تُ َك ِّذبَا ِنyatmithhunna – ّ )یط ِمث ُھنbefore them
(74). Then, which of your Sustainer’s
powers would you both deny?(75)
They would be firmly settled
(muttaki’ena - )متّکئینin gleaming

and the powerful elitist class (al-
﴾٥﴿ ت ْال ِجبَا ُل بَ ًسا
ِ َوبُ َّس Jibaalu – )الجبا ُل
ِ is crumbling(bussat –
ستّ ُ( ( )ب5), eventually turning into
﴾٦﴿ َت هَبَا ًء ُّمنبَثًا
ْ فَ َكان
worthless dispersing dust (haba’an
munbaththan – ( )ھباء ّمنبثّا6).

beauty (abaareeq – )اباریقand full
cups of knowledge (ka’asin – )کاس
from the source (min ma’een –)من معین
(18). They would neither be divided
﴾١٩﴿ َُنزفُون ِ ُص َّد ُعونَ َع ْنهَا َو ََل ي َ ََّل يor split (yusadda’una – )یُصدّعونover
their intellectual acquisitions, nor
would they ever feel exhausted
(yunzifoon – ( )یُن ِزفُون19); and there
would be targets/achievements
﴾٢٠﴿ َ( َوفَا ِكهَ ٍة ِّم َّما يَتَخَ يَّرُونfaakihatin – )فا ِکھۃfor them to choose
from (yatakhayyaroon – ( )یتخرون20);
﴾٢١﴿ َ َولَحْ ِم طَي ٍْر ِّم َّما يَ ْشتَهُونand to join closely (lahm – )لحم ِ with
the foremost ones (tayir – )طیرas they
would desire (yashtahoon – )ما یشتھون
(21); and with other companions free
﴾٢٢﴿ َوحُور ِعينof all vice, fault or defect (hoorun
‘Inun – )حور ِعین
ُ (22), like pearls
﴾٢٣﴿ ال اللُّ ْؤلُ ِؤ ْال َم ْكنُو ِن ِ َ ث م
ْ َ أ َ
ك hidden in their shells (23). It would
be the reward of their past
﴾٢٤﴿ ََجزَ ا ًء بِ َما َكانُوا يَ ْع َملُون
performance (24). They would not
﴾٢٥﴿ ََل يَ ْس َمعُونَ فِيهَا لَ ْغ ًوا َو ََل تَأْثِي ًماlisten to empty talk or wickedness
(ta’theeman – ( )تاثیما25), except words
﴾٢٦﴿ يَل َس ََل ًما َس ََل ًما ً ِ إِ ََّل قof peace and tranquility (26).

﴾٣٣﴿ ََّل َم ْقطُو َع ٍة َو ََل َم ْمنُو َع ٍة ( )فا ِکھۃ32), never ending nor forbidden
(33) and extended (furushun – )فُ ُرشto
﴾٣٤﴿ ش َّمرْ فُو َع ٍة
ٍ َوفُ ُر great heights (marfu’atun – )مرفوعۃ
(34). Verily, we have designed such
﴾٣٥﴿ إِنَّا أَن َشأْنَاهُ َّن إِن َشا ًء targets of evolution as per our
planning (35), and we have made
﴾٣٦﴿ فَ َج َع ْلنَاهُ َّن أَ ْب َكارًا
them as things absolutely new and
﴾٣٧﴿ ُع ُربًا أَ ْت َرابًا untouched, (abkaaran – ( )ابکارا36);
as lively/amorous/loving and
ِ ب ْاليَ ِم
﴾٣٨﴿ين ِ ِّْلَصْ َحا matching with the finer taste
(‘Uruban atraban – ( ) ُع ُربا اترابا37) of
﴾٣٩﴿ َثُلَّة ِّمنَ ْاْلَ َّولِين the Blessed Righteous ones (38), who
will be a segment from the pioneers
﴾٤٠﴿ ََوثُلَّة ِّمنَ ْاْل ِخ ِرين (39) and another from the later ones
(40). And for the Companions of Evil
ِ ال َما أَصْ َحابُ ال ِّش َم
﴾٤١﴿ ال ِ َوأَصْ َحابُ ال ِّش َم (ashaab-ush-shimaal – ;)اصحاب الشّمال
ُ
what about the companions of
evil?(41). They will be facing the
scorching wind of the burning despair
﴾٤٢﴿وم َو َح ِم ٍيم
ٍ فِي َس ُم (samumin wa hameemin – )سموم و حمیم
(42) and shadows of black smoke
ٍ َو ِظلٍّ ِّمن يَحْ ُم
﴾٤٣﴿ وم
(yahmud – ( )یح ُموم43), with no cooling
ِ َََّل ب
﴾٤٤﴿ ار ٍد َو ََل َك ِر ٍيم nor soothing (44). In earlier times
they used to be the opulent ones
﴾٤٥﴿ َإِنَّهُ ْم َكانُوا قَب َْل ٰ َذلِكَ ُم ْت َرفِين (mutrafeen – ( )مترفین45), and would
persist in heinous crimes (al-hinth –
﴾٤٦﴿ ث ْال َع ِظ ِيم
ِ ُصرُّ ونَ َعلَى ْال ِحن
ِ َو َكانُوا ي )الحنث
ِ (46), and used to say, “Shall we
be resurrected after we have died and
َو َكانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِ َذا ِم ْتنَا َو ُكنَّا تُ َرابًا َو ِعظَا ًما أَإِنَّا become dust and bones (47), or have
﴾٤٧﴿ َلَ َم ْبعُوثُون our forefathers met the same fate?”
(48)
﴾٤٨﴿ َأَ َوآبَا ُؤنَا ْاْلَ َّولُون
Tell them: “Indeed the earlier ones
﴾٤٩﴿ َقُلْ إِ َّن ْاْلَ َّولِينَ َو ْاْل ِخ ِرين and the later ones (44), all will be
gathered at the appointed time on the
ٍ ُت يَوْ ٍم َّم ْعل
﴾٥٠﴿ وم ِ لَ َمجْ ُمو ُعونَ إِلَ ٰى ِميقَاday known to God (50). And then,
indeed, O you, the deniers of truth,
﴾٥١﴿ َثُ َّم إِنَّ ُك ْم أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ ْال ُم َك ِّذبُون
who have lost the way (51) will
certainly taste from the tree of

bitterness (52), and you will be filling
ٍ َُّْل ِكلُونَ ِمن َش َج ٍر ِّمن زَ ق
﴾٥٢﴿ وم your inner self therewith (53), and
will absorb the (al-hamim) scalding
﴾٥٣﴿ َ فَ َمالِئُونَ ِم ْنهَا ْالبُطُونhot water of remorse on top of it (54);
hence you shall have the fate of a
﴾٥٤﴿ اربُونَ َعلَ ْي ِه ِمنَ ْال َح ِم ِيم ِ فَ َشpurpose-less wandering (shrub-al-
heem – ( ”)شُرب الھیم55). This is what
﴾٥٥﴿ ب ْال ِه ِيم َ ْاربُونَ ُشر ِ فَ َشwould descend upon them on the Day

God (88), there’s for him happiness,
ُ َّفَ َروْ ح َو َري َْحان َو َجن
﴾٨٩﴿ ت نَ ِع ٍيم fulfillment and a life of protection,
peace and rewards (89). And if one is
﴾٩٠﴿ ب ْاليَ ِمي ِن
ِ َوأَ َّما إِن َكانَ ِم ْن أَصْ َحاfrom the blessed lot (90), there is
peace and security for all of you from
﴾٩١﴿ ب ْاليَ ِمي ِن ِ فَ َس ََلم لَّكَ ِم ْن أَصْ َحاthe blessed ones (91). And for those
who might be from the class of lost
﴾٩٢﴿ ََوأَ َّما إِن َكانَ ِمنَ ْال ُم َك ِّذبِينَ الضَّالِّين
ones and the liars (92), there is a
﴾٩٣﴿ فَنُ ُزل ِّم ْن َح ِم ٍيمwelcome with perpetual burning
(hamim – ( )حمیم93) and induction into
﴾٩٤﴿ َوتَصْ لِيَةُ َج ِح ٍيمthe fire of remorse and deprivation
(94). Indeed this is the absolute truth
﴾٩٥﴿ ق ْاليَقِي ِن ُّ ( إِ َّن هَ ٰـ َذا لَه َُو َح95). Therefore, strive hard to
actualize the attributes of your great
ْ
﴾٩٦﴿ فَ َسبِّحْ بِاس ِْم َربِّكَ ال َع ِظ ِيمNourisher (96).”

Wa maaa'im maskoob. Wa faakihatin = Ba-Siin-Siin سا ّ =بbreaking, breaking in
pieces, mixed it, broke/crumble/bruise/bray it,
kaseerah. Laa maqtoo'atinw wa laa
become dust, leveled, stirred about, moistened.
mamnoo'ah.Wa furushim marfoo'ah.
Innaaa anshaanaahunna inshaaa'aa. Nun-Ba-Dhal/Thal ُمنبثّا: =ن ب ثto throw,
Faja'alnaahunna abkaaraa. 'Uruban fling, give up, cast off, reject, throw a thing
atraabaan.Li as haabil yamen. Sullatum because of its worthlessness or not taking into
minal awwa leen. Wa sullatum minal account.
aakhireen. Wa as haabush shimaali
Ya-Miim-Nun =ی م ن ؛ میمنۃright side, right,
maaa as haabush shimaal. Fee right hand, oath, bless, lead to the right, be a
samoominw wa hameem. Wa zillim cause of blessing, prosperous/fortunate/lucky.
miny yahmoom. Laa baaridinw wa laa
kareem. Innaahum kaanoo qabla zaalika Shiin-Alif-Miim مشامۃ: = ش ا مto draw ill or
mutrafeen. Wa kaanoo yusirroona 'alal misfortune upon oneself, cause dismay or ill
hinsil 'azeem. Wa kaanoo yaqooloona luck, to be unlucky, be struck with
wretchedness and contempt, regarding as an
a'izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa evil omen, unprosperous, left of something (in
izaaman'ainnaa lamab'oosoon. Awa space/direction), desiring the left, journey to
aabaaa'unal awwaloon. Qul innal Syria, occupants of low ignoble place, a mole.

the daylight enter into darkness; and
﴾٦﴿ ور ِ ت الصُّ ُد ِ َعلِيم بِ َذاthus, He keeps abreast of your inner
َ آ ِمنُوا بِاللَّـ ِه َو َرسُولِ ِه َوأَنفِقُوا ِم َّما َج َعلَ ُكم ُّم ْست َْخلَفِينfeelings (6). Have faith in God and
His Messenger and keep open for
﴾٧﴿ فِي ِه ۚ فَالَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا ِمن ُك ْم َوأَنفَقُوا لَهُ ْم أَجْ ر َكبِير
people all that He has made you
inherit (mustakhlafeen fi-hi – ُمستخلفین
)فیہ, for those of you who have faith
and spend generously, are entitled to
a great reward (7).
Why do you not believe in God when
َو َما لَ ُك ْم ََل تُ ْؤ ِمنُونَ بِاللَّـ ِه ۚ َوال َّرسُو ُل يَ ْد ُعو ُك ْم
the Messenger invites you to believe
َ
﴾٨﴿ َ لِتُ ْؤ ِمنُوا بِ َربِّ ُك ْم َوقَ ْد أخَ َذ ِميثَاقَ ُك ْم إِن ُكنتُم ُّم ْؤ ِمنِينin your Sustainer, and he has made a
solemn covenant with you, if you
become truly faithful (8)?
َت لِّي ُْخ ِر َج ُكم ِّمن َّ
ٍ هُ َو ال ِذي يُن َِّز ُل َعلَ ٰى َع ْب ِد ِه آيَاIt is He who reveals elaborate
ٍ ت بَيِّنَا
ُّ signs/messages to his servant so as to
﴾٩﴿ ور ۚ َوإِ َّن اللَّـهَ بِ ُك ْم لَ َر ُءوف َّر ِحيم ِ ت إِلَى ال ُّن ِ الظلُ َما take you out of darkness towards
enlightenment. And indeed the God
is Compassionate and Merciful
towards you (9).
اث ُ ير َ يل اللَّـ ِه َولِلَّـ ِه ِم ِ ِ َو َما لَ ُك ْم أَ ََّل تُنفِقُوا فِي َسبAnd what’s wrong with you that you
do not spend in the way of God when
ق ِمن َ َض ۚ ََل يَ ْست َِوي ِمن ُكم َّم ْن أَنف ِ ْت َو ْاْلَر ِ اوا َ ال َّس َمthe entire inheritance of the Universe
ح َوقَاتَ َل ۚ أُولَ ٰـئِكَ أَ ْعظَ ُم د ََر َجةً ِّمنَ الَّ ِذينَ أَنفَقُوا ْ
ِ قَب ِْل الفَ ْتbelongs to the God. There’s no
equality in status among you between
ُِمن بَ ْع ُد َوقَاتَلُوا ۚ َو ُك ًَل َو َع َد اللَّـهُ ْال ُح ْسنَىٰ ۚ َواللَّـه
those who spent openly before the
﴾١٠﴿ بِ َما تَ ْع َملُونَ َخبِيرvictory and fought – they have the
higher status than those who spent
and took part in fighting at a later
stage. However, all of them have been
promised beautiful rewards by God
as the God keeps abreast of your
conduct (10).
Whoever extends credit to God in a
ُُضا ِعفَهُ لَه َ َّمن َذا الَّ ِذي يُ ْق ِرضُ اللَّـهَ قَرْ ضًا َح َسنًا فَي
beautiful way, He substantially
َ َ
﴾١١﴿ َولهُ أجْ ر َك ِريمincreases its repayment manifold to
favor them (yudhaa’ifa-hu la-hu –ُلہ
ُ )یُضا ِعفہand for them there are
honorable rewards (11).

There will appear a stage when you
will see the believer individuals
ِ يَوْ َم ت ََرى ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنِينَ َو ْال ُم ْؤ ِمنَا
َت يَ ْس َع ٰى نُو ُرهُم بَ ْين
(almo’mineen – )الموء ِمنینand the
أَ ْي ِدي ِه ْم َوبِأ َ ْي َمانِ ِهم بُ ْش َرا ُك ُم ْاليَوْ َم َجنَّات تَجْ ِري ِمن تَحْ تِهَا believer communities (al-mo’minaat –
)ال ُموءمناتin a state where their
﴾١٢﴿ ْاْلَ ْنهَا ُر خَ الِ ِدينَ فِيهَا ۚ ٰ َذلِكَ هُ َو ْالفَوْ ُز ْال َع ِظي ُم
enlightenment will already be
assisting them on their way (yas’aa
bayina ayidi-him – )یسعی ایدیھمas well
as to fulfill their covenants (bi-
ayimaani-him – ;)بِایمانِ ِھمglad tidings
would be given to you on that stage of
a life of peace and protection
(jannaatun – )جنّاتwhere abundance
of everything (tahtiha-al-anhaar –
)تحتِھا االنھارwould flow (tajri – ;)تجری
you would live therein forever; that is
a great achievement (12).
That’s the time when the hypocrites
ات لِلَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا انظُرُونَا ُ َيَوْ َم يَقُو ُل ْال ُمنَافِقُونَ َو ْال ُمنَافِق and their groups (al-munafiqaat –
)ال ُمنافِقاتwould speak to the believers
يل ارْ ِجعُوا َو َرا َء ُك ْم فَ ْالتَ ِمسُوا نُورًا ِ ُّنَ ْقتَبِسْ ِمن ن
َ ِور ُك ْم ق
by saying : “Wait for us! Let us get
ُاطنُهُ فِي ِه الرَّحْ َمة ِ َُور لَّهُ بَاب ب ٍ ب بَ ْينَهُم بِس َ ُرِ فَض some inspiration from your
enlightenment”. They will be told to
﴾١٣﴿ َُوظَا ِه ُرهُ ِمن قِبَلِ ِه ْال َع َذاب
look back to their former lives
(arji’oo waraa’a-kum – )ارجعو ورائ ُکم
and seek any enlightenment if
available there. And then a wall will
be placed between both parties with a
door in it, within which will be the
abundance of sustenance and
evolution (ar-Rahmatu – )الرحمۃ, and
without, facing it, will be a severe
suffering. (13) They would call out to
يُنَا ُدونَهُ ْم أَلَ ْم نَ ُكن َّم َع ُك ْم ۚقَالُوا بَلَ ٰى َولَ ٰـ ِكنَّ ُك ْم فَتَنتُ ْم them saying, “Can we not be with
you?” They would reply: “Okay; but
أَنفُ َس ُك ْم َوت ََربَّصْ تُ ْم َوارْ تَ ْبتُ ْم َو َغ َّر ْت ُك ُم ْاْلَ َمانِ ُّي َحت َّ ٰى َجا َء
you had put your inner selves into
﴾١٤﴿أَ ْم ُر اللَّـ ِه َو َغ َّر ُكم بِاللَّـ ِه ْال َغرُو ُر temptations, and you waited on, and
you doubted, and your wishful
thinking deceived you, until the time
of judgement did arrive, and your

deceptive intentions deceived you
about the God (14). Hence, at this
َالَّ ِذين َفَ ْاليَوْ َم ََل ي ُْؤخَ ُذ ِمن ُك ْم فِ ْديَة َو ََل ِمن
stage, no ransom or compensation
َ َموْ ََل ُك ْم ۚ َوبِ ْئ
س النَّا ُر ۚ ِه َي َكفَرُوا ۚ َمأْ َوا ُك ُم from you would be acceptable, nor
from those who denied the truth;
ِ ْال َم
﴾١٥﴿ صي ُر
your doom is the fire; that’s your
friend and sponsor, and what an evil
destination it is.”(15)
Has the time not come for the faithful
أَلَ ْم يَأْ ِن لِلَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا أَن ت َْخ َش َع قُلُوبُهُ ْم لِ ِذ ْك ِر اللَّـ ِه َو َما that their hearts may submit to the
remembrance of God and to what has
َاب ِمن قَ ْب ُلَ ق َو ََل يَ ُكونُوا َكال َّ ِذينَ أُوتُوا ْال ِكت ِّ نَزَ َل ِمنَ ْال َح
been presented of the truth? And let
ْ ال َعلَ ْي ِه ُم ْاْلَ َم ُد فَقَ َس
ت قُلُوبُهُ ْم ۚ َو َكثِير ِّم ْنهُ ْم َ َفَط them not be like those who were given
the Scripture earlier, and a long
﴾١٦﴿ َاسقُون ِ َف period lapsed over them, resulting in
hardening of their hearts; so a
majority of them turned defiant (16).
All of you must know that the God
َ ْا ْعلَ ُموا أَ َّن اللَّـهَ يُحْ يِي ْاْلَر
ض بَ ْع َد َموْ تِهَا ۚ قَ ْد بَيَّنَّا gives life to the earth after it becomes
lifeless! We have elaborated for you
﴾١٧﴿ َت لَ َعلَّ ُك ْم تَ ْعقِلُون
ِ لَ ُك ُم ْاْليَا the respective signs/messages so that
you might employ your intellect (17).
Indeed the truthful individuals and
ً ْت َوأَ ْق َرضُوا اللَّـهَ قَر
ضا َّ ص ِّدقِينَ َو ْال ُم
ِ ص ِّدقَا َّ إِ َّن ْال ُم
the communities who offer the God
﴾١٨﴿ َف لَهُ ْم َولَهُ ْم أَجْ ر َك ِريم
ُ ُضاع َ َح َسنًا ي (the Divine Government) a good loan,
He will increase its repayment
manifold and for them there’s also a
هُ ُم َأُولَ ٰـئِك َو ُر ُسلِ ِه بِاللَّـ ِه آ َمنُوا ََوالَّ ِذين noble reward (18). And the Truthful
ones are those who are faithful to the
الصِّ دِّيقُونَ ۚ َوال ُّشهَدَا ُء ِعن َد َربِّ ِه ْم لَهُ ْم أَجْ ُرهُ ْم
God and His messengers and stand as
ك َ َِونُو ُرهُ ْم ۚ َوالَّ ِذينَ َكفَرُوا َو َك َّذبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَ ٰـئ witnesses in the eyes of their
Sustainer; so they are entitled for
﴾١٩﴿ أَصْ َحابُ ْال َج ِح ِيم
their reward and their share of the
enlightenment. But those who have
denied the truth and have falsified
our signs/messages, they are the
companions of fire (19). All of you
must be aware that the life of this
ا ْعلَ ُموا أَنَّ َما ْال َحيَاةُ ال ُّد ْنيَا لَ ِعب َولَهْو َو ِزينَة َوتَفَا ُخر
world is that of a pastime and
amusement and a seeking of

ث ٍ بَ ْينَ ُك ْم َوتَ َكاثُر فِي ْاْلَ ْم َوا ِل َو ْاْلَوْ ََل ِد ۚ َك َمثَ ِل َغ ْي physical/intellectual grace and pride
among your folks, and greed for
ون َ َّب ْال ُكف
ُ ار نَبَاتُهُ ثُ َّم يَ ِهي ُج فَت ََراهُ ُمصْ فَ ًرا ثُ َّم يَ ُك َ أَ ْع َج
abundance of wealth and offspring; it
ُحطَا ًما ۚ َوفِي ْاْل ِخ َر ِة َع َذاب َش ِديد َو َم ْغفِ َرة ِّمنَ اللَّـ ِه is just like the rain resulting in the
growth of crop that pleases the tillers
ِ ع ْال ُغر
﴾٢٠﴿ ُور ُ َو ِرضْ َوان ۚ َو َما ْال َحيَاةُ ال ُّد ْنيَا إِ ََّل َمتَا
of the soil (a’jab-al-kuffaar – اعجب
)ال ُکفّار, but then it dries up and you see
it turning yellow, then becoming
dust/debris (hutaaman ). But in the
Hereafter there’s intense suffering;
and there’s forgiveness and
protection from the God, and His
approval and acceptance, while the
life of this world is nothing but a
source of delusion (mataa’ul-ghuroor
– ( )متا ُع ال ُغ ُرور20). You must excel in
seeking safeguards from your
ض ِ ْضهَا َك َعر ُ َْسابِقُوا إِلَ ٰى َم ْغفِ َر ٍة ِّمن َّربِّ ُك ْم َو َجنَّ ٍة َعر
Sustainer and a life of peace and
ت لِلَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا بِاللَّـ ِه ْ ض أُ ِع َّد ِ ْال َّس َما ِء َو ْاْلَر protection (jannatin – )جنّۃwhose vast
َو ُر ُسلِ ِه ۚ ٰ َذلِكَ فَضْ ُل اللَّـ ِه ي ُْؤتِي ِه َمن يَ َشا ُء ۚ َواللَّـهُ ُذو
expanse is the same as the expanse of
the entire Universe, which is prepared
﴾٢١﴿ ْالفَضْ ِل ْال َع ِظ ِيم for those having faith in God and His
messengers. That’s the God’s grace
which He bestows upon those who
seek it – for God is the dispenser of
great bounties (21).
The calamities that befall the Earth
ض َو ََل فِي أَنفُ ِس ُك ْم إِ ََّل
ِ ْصيبَ ٍة فِي ْاْلَر
ِ اب ِمن ُّم
َ صَ ََما أ and your own selves are already laid
ب ِّمن قَب ِْل أَن نَّب َْرأَهَا ۚ إِ َّن ٰ َذلِكَ َعلَى اللَّـ ِه
down in the prevalent laws of nature
ٍ فِي ِكتَا
(fi kitaab – )فی کتابand take effect
﴾٢٢﴿ يَ ِسير before We unleash them. Indeed, it
was easy for the God to do so/ to
systemize it (22) so that you may not
لِّ َكي ََْل تَأْ َسوْ ا َعلَ ٰى َما فَاتَ ُك ْم َو ََل تَ ْف َرحُوا بِ َما feel despair over what you lose (faata-
kum – )فات ُکمand may not feel over
﴾٢٣﴿ ور ٍ آتَا ُك ْم ۚ َواللَّـهُ ََل ي ُِحبُّ ُك َّل ُم ْخت
ٍ َال فَ ُخ pleased with what has come to you. In
fact, the God doesn’t love all those
who are self-deluded and proud of
themselves (mukhtaalin fakhoorin –
فخورُ ( ) ُمختال23), it is those who display

اس بِ ْالب ُْخ ِل ۚ َو َمن يَت ََو َّل َ َّ الَّ ِذينَ يَبْخَ لُونَ َويَأْ ُمرُونَ النstinginess and bid others to be tight-
fisted; and those who turn away from
﴾٢٤﴿ فَإ ِ َّن اللَّـهَ هُ َو ْال َغنِ ُّي ْال َح ِمي ُد
the right track (yatawalla – )یتو ّلmust
know that God is independent of all
on a praiseworthy level (24).
We have deputed our messengers
َاب ْ
َ ت َوأنزَ لنَا َم َعهُ ُم ال ِكت ْ َ ْ ْ َ
ِ لَقَ ْد أرْ َسلنَا ُر ُسلَنَا بِالبَيِّنَاwith clear evidence of truth and have
sent with them the Scripture as a
ْط ۚ َوأَنزَ ْلنَا ْال َح ِدي َد فِي ِه ِ َو ْال ِميزَ انَ لِيَقُو َم النَّاسُ بِ ْالقِسstandard criterion for the humanity
ُ اس َولِيَ ْعلَ َم اللَّـهُ َمن يَن ْ
ُص ُره ِ َّ بَأس َش ِديد َو َمنَافِ ُع لِلنto establish justice and equality
among them. That’s how we have
﴾٢٥﴿َزيز ِ ب ۚ إِ َّن اللَّـهَ قَ ِويٌّ ع ِ َو ُر ُسلَهُ بِ ْال َغ ْيsent a set of
limitations/restraints/prohibitions
(al-hadeed – )الحدیدin which there’s
severe punishment and distress
(ba’sun – )باءسas well as sources of
benefit for humanity and it makes the
God aware as to who helps Him and
His messengers in seeking the
invisible purpose/reality (bil-ghayib –
)بالغیب. Indeed the God is powerful
and dominant (25).
Accordingly, we had deputed Noah
ََولَقَ ْد أَرْ َس ْلنَا نُوحًا َوإِب َْرا ِهي َم َو َج َع ْلنَا فِي ُذرِّ يَّتِ ِه َما النُّبُ َّوة
and Abraham and bestowed
﴾٢٦﴿ َاسقُون ِ ََاب ۚ فَ ِم ْنهُم ُّم ْهتَ ٍد ۚ َو َكثِير ِّم ْنهُ ْم ف َ َو ْال ِكتleadership (an-nabuwwah – )النّبُ ّوۃand
scripture upon their posterity. So
some of them turned into guided ones,
but the majority of them were
transgressors (26). Thereafter, We
ار ِهم بِ ُر ُسلِنَا َوقَفَّ ْينَا بِ ِعي َسى اب ِْن َمرْ يَ َم ِ َ ثُ َّم قَفَّ ْينَا َعلَ ٰى آثsent our messengers to follow their
ًب الَّ ِذينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ َر ْأفَة ِ يل َو َج َع ْلنَا فِي قُلُو َ اْلن ِجِ ْ ُ َوآتَ ْينَاهfootsteps and we made them followed
by Jesus, the son of Mary, and we
َو َرحْ َمةً َو َر ْهبَانِيَّةً ا ْبتَ َد ُعوهَا َما َكتَ ْبنَاهَا َعلَ ْي ِه ْم إِ ََّل ا ْبتِغَا َء
gave him the Injeel (the Gospel) and
َّ َ َّ
َان اللـ ِه ف َما َرعَوْ هَا َحق ِرعَايَتِهَا ۚ فآتَ ْينَا ال ِذين َ َّ ِ ِرضْ َوwe made the hearts of those who
followed him full of compassion and
﴾٢٧﴿ َاسقُون ِ َ آ َمنُوا ِم ْنهُ ْم أَجْ َرهُ ْم ۚ َو َكثِير ِّم ْنهُ ْم فmercy; and the monasticism which
they invented(ibtada’u-ha – )ابتدعوھا
had not been prescribed by us for
them. We only prescribed the seeking
of the approval of God, but they did

not observe it the way its observance
deserved (haqqa ri’ayati-ha – ق ّ ح
)رعایتھا. Ultimately, we bestowed those
of them who were faithful with their
reward, but majority of them were
transgressors (27).
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّ ِذينَ آ َمنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّـهَ َوآ ِمنُوا بِ َرسُولِ ِه ي ُْؤتِ ُك ْم “O people of faith, always remain
conscious and fearful (attaqu – )اتّقُواof
ِْك ْفلَي ِْن ِمن رَّحْ َمتِ ِه َويَجْ َعل لَّ ُك ْم نُورًا تَ ْم ُشونَ بِ ِه َويَ ْغفِر
God and have faith in His Messenger;
﴾٢٨﴿لَ ُك ْم ۚ َواللَّـهُ َغفُور َّر ِحيم He will grant you doubly of His mercy
and would provide you enlightenment
to forge ahead together with
safeguards from Him as He is the
dispenser of protection and mercy
(28).
ِ لِّئ َََّل يَ ْعلَ َم أَ ْه ُل ْال ِكتَا
ب أَ ََّل يَ ْق ِدرُونَ َعلَ ٰى َش ْي ٍء ِّمن The people of the Scripture must
know that they have no entitlement
فَضْ ِل اللَّـ ِه ۚ َوأَ َّن ْالفَضْ َل بِيَ ِد اللَّـ ِه ي ُْؤتِي ِه َمن
over any of God’s bounties, and that
﴾٢٩﴿ يَ َشا ُء ۚ َواللَّـهُ ُذو ْالفَضْ ِل ْال َع ِظ ِيم the bounties are in God’s power to
bestow upon those who seek them,
because the God has great bounties at
His disposal (29).
Transliteration:
“Sabbaha lillaahi maa fissamaawaati
wal ardi wa Huwal 'Azeezul Hakeem
(1).Lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ardi
yuhyee wa yumeetu wa Huwa 'alaa kulli
shai'in Qadeer (2).Huwal Awwalu
wal'Aakhiru waz Zaahiru wal Baatinu
wa huwa bikulli shai'in Aleem (3)
Huwal lazee khalaqas samaawaati wal
arda fee sittati ayyaamin summas tawaa
'alal 'Arsh; ya'lamu maa yaliju filardi wa
maa yakhruju minhaa wa maa yanzilu
minas samaaa'i wa maa ya'ruju feeha wa
Huwa ma'akum ayna maa kuntum;
wallaahu bimaa ta'maloona Baseer (4)
Lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ard; wa
ilal laahi turja'ul umoor (5) Yoolijul

laila fin nahaari wa yoolijun nahaara fil
lail; wa Huwa 'Aleemum bizaatis sudoor
(6) Aaaminoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee
wa anfiqoo mimmaa ja'alakum mustakh
lafeena feehi fallazeena aamanoo
minkum wa anfaqoo lahum ajrun kabeer
(7). Wa maa lakum laa tu'minoona
billaahi war Rasoolu yad'ookum
lituu'minoo bi Rabbikum wa qad akhaza
meesaaqakum in kuntum mu'mineen (8)
Huwal lazee yunazzilu 'alaa 'abdiheee
Aayaatim baiyinaatil liyukhrijakum
minaz zulumaati ilan noor; wa innal
laaha bikum la Ra'oofur Raheem (9) Wa
maa lakum allaa tunfiqoo fee sabeelil
laahi wa lillaahi meeraasus samaawaati
wal-ard; laa yastawee minkum man
anfaqa min qablil fat-hi wa qaatal;
ulaaaika a'zamu darajatam minal
lazeena anfaqoo mim ba'du wa qaataloo;
wa kullanw wa'adallaahul husnaa;
wallaahu bimaa ta'maloona Khabeer
(10) man zal lazee yuqridul laaha qardan
hasanan fa yudaa'ifahoo lahoo wa
lahooo ajrun kareem (11) Yawma taral
mu'mineena walmu'minaati yas'aa
nooruhum baina aydeehim wa
biaymaanihim bushraakumul yawma
jannaatun tajree min tahtihal anhaaru
khaalideena feeha; zaalika huwal fawzul
'azeem (12) Yawma yaqoolul munaa
fiqoona walmunaafiqaatu lillazeena
aamanun zuroonaa naqtabis min
noorikum qeelarji'oo waraaa'akum
faltamisoo nooran faduriba bainahum
bisooril lahoo baab, baatinuhoo feehir
rahmatu wa zaahiruhoo min qibalihi-
'azaab (13) Yunaadoonahum alam
nakum ma'akum qaaloo balaa wa
laakinnakum fatantum anfusakum wa

tarabbastum wartabtum wa
gharratkumul amaaniyyu hatta jaaa'a
amrul laahi wa gharrakum billaahil
gharoor (14) Fal Yawma laa yu'khazu
minkum fidyatunw wa laa minal lazeena
kafaroo; maawaakumun Naaru hiya
maw laakum wa bi'sal maser (15) Alam
yaani lillazeena aamanooo an takhsha'a
quloo buhum lizikril laahi wa maa
nazala minal haqqi wa laa yakoonoo
kallazeena ootul Kitaaba min qablu
fataala 'alaihimul amadu faqasat
quloobuhum wa kaseerum minhum
faasiqoon (16) I'lamooo annal laaha
yuhyil arda ba'da mawtihaa; qad
baiyannaa lakumul Aayaati la'allakum
ta'qiloon (17) Innal mussaddiqeena wal
mussaddiqaati wa aqradul laaha qardan
hassanany yudaa'afu lahum wa lahum
ajrun kareem (18) Wallazeena aamanoo
billaahi wa Rusuliheee ulaaa'ika humus
siddeeqoona wash shuhadaaa'u 'inda
Rabbihim lahum ajruhum wa nooruhum
wallazeena kafaroo wa kazzaboo bi
aayaatinaaa ulaaaika As haabul Jaheem
(19) I'lamooo annamal hayaa tud dunyaa
la'ibunw wa lahwunw wa zeenatunw wa
tafaakhurum bainakum wa takaasurun
fil amwaali wal awlaad, kamasali
ghaisin a'jabal kuffaara nabaatuhoo
summa yaheeju fataraahu musfaaran
summa yakoonu hutaamaa; wa fil
aakhirati 'azaabun shadeedunw wa magh
firatum minal laahi wa ridwaan; wa mal
haiyaa tuddun yaaa illaa mataa'ul
ghuroor (20) Saabiqooo ilaa
maghfiratim mir Rabbikum wa jannatin
'arduhaa ka-'ardis samaaa'i wal ardi
u'iddat lillazeena aamanoo billaahi wa
Rusulih; zaalika fadlul laahi yu'teehi

many yashaaa'; wal laahu zul fadlil
'azeem (21) Maaa asaaba mim musee
batin fil ardi wa laa feee anfusikum illaa
fee kitaabim min qabli an nabra ahaa;
innaa zaalika 'alal laahi yaseer (22)
Likailaa taasaw 'alaa maa faatakum wa
laa tafrahoo bimaaa aataakum; wallaahu
laa yuhibbu kulla mukhtaalin fakhoor
(23) Allazeeena yabkhaloona wa
yaamuroonan naasa bil bukhl; wa many
yatawalla fa innal laaha Huwal
Ghaniyyul Hameed (24) Laqad arsalnaa
Rusulanaa bilbaiyinaati wa anzalnaa
ma'ahumul Kitaaba wal Meezaana
liyaqooman naasu bilqist, wa anzalnal
hadeeda feehi baasun shadeedunw wa
manaafi'u linnaasi wa liya'lamal laahu
many yansuruhoo wa Rusulahoo
bilghaib; innal laaha Qawiyyun 'Azeez
(25) Wa laqad arsalnaa Noohanw wa
Ibraaheema wa ja'alnaa fee
zurriyyatihiman nubuwwata wal Kitaaba
faminhum muhtad; wa kaseerum
minhum faasiqoon (26) Summa
qaffainaa 'alaa aasaarihim bi Rusulinaa
wa qaffainaa be 'Eesab ni Maryama wa
aatainaahul Injeela wa ja'alnaa fee
quloobil lazeenat taba' oohu raafatanw
wa rahmatanw wa rahbaaniyyatanib
tada' oohaa maa katanaahaa 'alaihim
illab tighaaa'a ridwaanil laahi famaa
ra'awhaa haqqa ri'aayatihaa fa aatainal
lazeena aamanoo minhum ajrahum wa
kaseerum minhum faasiqoon (27) Yaaa
ayyuhal lazeena aamaanut taqullaaha wa
aaminoo bi Rasoolihee yu'tikum kiflaini
mir rahmatihee wa yaj'al lakum nooran
tamshoona bihee wa yaghfir lakum;
wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem (28) Li'alla
ya'lama Ahlul kitaabi allaa yaqdiroona

'alaa shai'im min fadlil laahi wa annal
fadla bi Yadil laahi u'teehi many
yashaaa'; wallaahu Zul fadilil
'azeem (End Juz 27) (29).”
