Nokia DF1/4 SDH Access
Nokia DF1/4 extends the power of the next generation SDH/Sonet
networks further than ever before, taking a universal, robust,
scalable architecture beyond the traditional network boundaries
to even the smallest customer or space constrained environment.
The product is an entry level fibre optic customer premises
equipment to deliver TDM and packet based services. Nokia DF1/4
can be shelf or wall mounted and is powered from a 48 volts
external rack supply or an internal AC power supply.
SDH/SONET to the Network Edge
Nokia DF1/4 delivers Gigabit Ethernet and TDM services from a
SDH/SONET network. The equipment’s Gigabit capabilities cost
effectively drive E-Line and E-LAN services to the network edge,
delivering resilient, managed IP-based services. Consolidating the
infrastructure of large network Add/Drop Multiplexers, the Nokia
DF1/4 achieves both the integrity of TDM and the simplicity of
Ethernet in a single, managed unit. The platform delivers
traditional TDM E1/T1 and DS3 services as well as Gigabit Ethernet
using VCAT with dynamic LCAS. The compact unit can be wall
mounted or two units can be rack mounted in 1RU.
An integrated switch fabric ensures maximum bandwidth
utilisation by enabling both high order and low order cross
connection of tributary services onto available network bandwidth
via a user friendly GUI. The platform combines Ethernet and E1/T1
transmission systems over an optical trunk with speeds up to STM-
4/OC-12. Four independently configurable Ethernet interfaces are
provided. Each interface supports rate limiting and speeds up to
the available trunk bandwidth. Up to 4 E1/T1interfaces are
provided on the base system, expandable to 32 E1’s/T1’s with the
optional expansion module. An STM-1/OC-3 tributary port provides
further expansion and service delivery options.
Operational Advantage
The versatile Nokia Multiservice Manager is used for remote
management, user-defined monitoring, rapid configuration and
deployment. Hot swappable SFP optical interfaces accommodate
all high speed services and facilitate optimal flexibility of
provisioning. CWDM and Single Fiber modes of operation are
supported with just a change of SFP modules. Additional services
or network interconnection are supported by the STM-1/OC-3
tributary port.
The Nokia DF1/4 is based on an innovative software-driven
architecture that protects your investment by providing a direct
upgrade path to feature and performance enhancements over the
life of the product. Software updates are applied via an
automated, fail-safe, one-step upgrade process that can be
initiated from a central location to all sites in the network.
Operations and Management
The Multiservice Manager is a powerful and intuitive tool that
enables management of a network comprising local and remote
units. It is a Windows-based application that communicates with
the DF1/4 via front panel USB. In addition, the integrated
management router can extend the reach of the existing IP
management network using SDH/SONET DCCs. Through
Multiservice Manager, the DF1/4 supports concurrent SNMP
management with Syslog monitoring and reporting. Cross
connecting Ethernet and/or E1/T1 tributaries is simple using the
included configuration tool. The switch fabric is full duplex and
non-blocking. Ethernet LCAS groups can simultaneously
aggregate virtual circuits from both the working and protection
trunks, increasing available bandwidth for Ethernet.
The Multiservice Manager is a rapid and easy service provisioning
tool that provides fault detection, monitoring, configuration, and
real-time status display. The tool features a real time visual display
of node status, and gathers performance and fault statistics from
all connected DF1/4 platforms. Nokia Multiservice Manager is
compatible with Microsoft Windows® 98, NT, 2000 and XP.
