Rostow Stage of Growth

The Rostov Stage of Growth is an economic development theory which focuses on the
idea that a country passes through procedural steps in achieving development. The steps in
achieving development are; Traditional Society, Pre-conditions for takeoff, Take off, Drive to
maturity and age of mass consumption.

In every step in this model, we can see that there is a development with their status. As
the model started with a traditional society whose low levels of output and income can be visibly
seen, and the step ended with the Age of Mass consumption wherein Output and income levels
grows, and there are already various job opportunities that can be offered to the people.

This theory really correlates with education and development, as the first step which
shows that a certain country is dependent with their agriculture and which leads to low output
and income. Basically, most of the people who work in agricultural areas like farming, fishing,
and mining are those people who were not able to finish their studies or were not able to go to
school. In result, they are not highly qualified to work for a more professional work. In
connection with its last step which is the Age of Mass Consumption, in this phase, the people
here are more educated and were equipped with the proper skills they need to work for more
professional jobs, which results to a greater income.

The weakness of this theory is that it gives an emphasis to the first step which is the
Traditional Society, wherein it says that this countries are only confined with agriculture as their
main source of living which results to poverty, but we must also remember that not all
agricultural countries are under poverty example, China, is an agricultural country which
provides different forms of agricultural products. However, they are not under poverty in fact
they are one of the world’s rising country in terms of economic status.

“Health and Education”

This theory of economic development asserts that health and education levels are much
higher to high income countries which allow them to have medical check-up at least once a year
or more. They are also privileged to attend school and get a diploma. There is also a saying that
the better the education of the mother will result to a better health for her children. In a way,
wherein the mother can take care of her children correctly and the mother also can provide the
children with nutritious foods for them, In order to have good health,

The theory strengths are; this really correlates with education and poverty, if a country
has produced more numbers of educated people, then this will result to a more pleasing country
which is fully developed in various ways, however if a country has low levels of educational
attainment this may result to poverty and death
