Semi-detailed Lesson Plan

Empowerment Technology

Grade & Section/Time: ABM 12 (4:00- 5:20), GAS 12-A (5:20-6:40)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 recognize the ethics in the use of ICTs related to their specific professional tracks,
 share insights about the importance of being responsible over digital media.

II. Subject Matter


Lesson 2: Online Safety, Security, Ethics, and Etiquette
Learning Competency: Apply online safety, security, ethics, and etiquette standards and practice in the
use of ICTs as it would relate to their specific professional tracks

III. Learning Activities


A. Daily Routine
- Prayer
- Checking Of Attendance
- Classroom Management
- Collecting of Assignment

B. Review
The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What does Information and Communications Technology deals with?
- It deals with any communication device or application, such as: radio, television, cellular
phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems, etc.\
2. What are the differences among web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0?
- The difference among web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 is that web 1.0 is mostly read-only, while web
2.0 is wildly read – only and web 3.0 is portable and personal.
3. What are the trends in ICT?
- There are 4 trends in ICT and those are Convergence, Social Media, Mobile technologies
and Assistive Media.

C. Motivation
In a ¼ sheet of paper, will be given the following statements and the students write YES if they agree
with the statement and NO if not.
1. My computer has an antivirus so it is okay to open most e-mail attachments like e-cards and video
files.
2. You and your best friend play a lot of video games. One time, she asks you for your password so
she can help you level up and get in-game money. She promises to keep your password a secret. Is
it okay to give away your password?
3. You forgot that your essay for English class is due tomorrow. While doing your research, you found
a website offering free essays. Is it okay to use the essay from this free essay website?
4. A virus is a malware that multiplies and infects other computers through flash drives.
5. There is a danger in posting information about a future vacation.

The teacher will ask the following questions.


1. What are the virtues you can infer from the statements?
- The statements talks about online safety, information privacy and copyright
infringement.

D. Discussion
The class will be divided into four groups and each of the group will choose a representative.
Those representative from each group will pick a piece of paper that contains a certain topic and will be
explained to the class. They will be given 5 minutes for the preparation and 2 minutes to explain the topic
assigned to them.

The teacher will ask the following question.


1. What is a cyber-citizen?
-Cyber Citizen utilizes technology in an appropriate manner including etiquette,
communication, education, access, commerce, responsibility, rights, safety, and security.

2. What is Cyberbullying?
-Cyberbullying involves the use of technologies to display behavior that harms another.
Through email, instant messaging, text messaging, and social networking sites, hurtful
messages can be posted and shared.
3. What is Plagiarism?
-Plagiarism is the use of another’s work as your own. In the internet, all materials are
copyrighted unless stated otherwise. Such materials, includes, but are not limited to, images,
music, text, and videos.

4. What is Phishing?
-Phishing is the illegal act of sending emails or messages that appear to come from
authentic sources, but really come from spammers.

E. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What are the ethics that we have discussed today?
-First, Plagiarism is the use of another’s work as your own and the last one is Phishing that
means any illegal act of sending emails or messages that appear to come from authentic sources,
but really come from spammers.
2. What is importance of being responsible when carrying out relationships over digital media?
-Being responsible in digital media is also being responsible in your safety and security.

F. Application
In a one whole sheet of paper, students will answer the following question.
 What kind of impact do digital media have on you (a little, some, a lot)?

IV. Assessment
In a ¼ sheet of paper, students will write down the answers of the following statements.
 What are the 4 trends in ICT?
 It is called to a person that utilizes technology in an appropriate manner including etiquette,
communication, education, access, commerce, responsibility, rights, safety, and security.
 It involves the use of technologies to display behavior that harms another. Through email,
instant messaging, text messaging, and social networking sites, hurtful messages can be
posted and shared.
 It is the use of another’s work as your own.
 It is the illegal act of sending emails or messages that appear to come from authentic
sources, but really come from spammers.
 It is an act that prohibits any unlawful acts of libel committed by means of writing, printing,
lithography, engraving, radio, phonograph, painting, theatrical exhibition, cinematographic
exhibition, or any similar means.
