NETWORK DIAGRAM

• Bank’s branches are connected through the Enterprise Wide Network which use
leased line, ISDN, Radio, FWT and VSAT links.
• Enterprise Wide Network is a four tier meshed architecture network wherein the
branches are directly connected to a Network Center (NC).
• These NCs are further directly connected to a Central Networking Center (CNC)
which is directly connected to the Data Center (DC) at Delhi as well as Disaster
Recovery Site(DRS) set up at Mumbai.
• The branches / offices, NCs are connected with a Lease line/RF/VSAT as primary
link and ISDN dial up/RF/VSAT as back up link.
• The branches are using bandwidth of 64 Kbps and NCs are using bandwidth of
multiples of 64 Kbps up to 2 Mbps and NCs are using bandwidth of 2 Mbps.
• Bank has installed more than 1200 ATMs which are connected through the WAN or
VSAT network.
• Bank has video conferencing facility at 33 locations connected through an
independent ISDN network apart from the Mail Messaging Services being used on the
Bank’s WAN.
• Bank WAN is currently running on Class A IP Schema 10.X.X.X. The BANK is
currently using Dynamic Routing Protocol (EIGRP).

Implementation Details:

The data centre of PNB is consisting of Servers for various network applications like
Finnacle, IBS, MMS, HRMS, SFMS, EMS etc. Beside this, there is Tandem Switch for ATM
connectivity, Layer-3 / Layer-2 switches for connectivity with servers and users, Multi
Conferencing Unit for Video Conferencing installed in the Data Centre. Zones are connected
with DC & DRS routers with 2 Mbps leased line links backed by ISDN PRI/RF. Various HO
divisions are connected to DC routers through Leased Lines backed by ISDN PRI/BRI lines.
The DRS is connected with Data Centre through multiple of 2 Mbps Leased Lines. DRS is a
replica of DC containing similar type of servers, routers, switches etc. The Network Cables of
data centre are of 10G fibre and UTP.

• Bank is using CISCO routers and switches for LAN and WAN at majority of the
locations.
• Bank has installed an Enterprise Management System (EMS) -Unicenter from
Computer Associates.
• Dynamic Routing Protocol (EIGRP) has been implemented by M/s CMC Limited and
under AMC contract with M/s HCL Infosystems.
• Bank is procuring bandwidth from BSNL/MTNL/other service providers.
• Finnacle application is provided by Infosys Technologies.

Network Performance Management, Security/Business Continuity Planning/Disaster

Recovery

• The network recovery is automatic from the primary to the secondary and vice versa
for every link.
• On primary link failure branches/NCs automatically connects to NC through
secondary link.
• In case of failure of primary link for DC at level, the primary link for DRS will be
active and routing will take place in DRS site in such a way that all traffic will reach
DC ultimately.
• The backup link will be active in case of failure of both the primary link for DC &
DRS.
• On disaster at DC, all the branches should be automatically connected to DRS through
NCs.
• On restoration of primary link, traffic is dropped from secondary link automatically.
• On restoration of DC, traffic is dropped from DRS link automatically.
• The main media of availability is Leased Line. Only in case of major problem in main
link, ISDN as back up is used.
• The overall site availability uptime for Bank, its sponsored/associated
organizations/banks is 99.95% on all days irrespective of holidays throughout the
year.
• Enterprise Management System (EMS) for monitoring, managing and reporting the faults,
configuration, performance and accounting of the Bank’s Wide Area Network, Servers
installed in Data Centre, Disaster Recovery Site and at other locations across the network.
• Different modules of this solution namely Network System Management & Network
Performance Operation, Server Management, Database Management, Service Plus
Service Desk, Desktop Management, Web Server Management, Mail Messaging System
Management and Service Level Management. Management of network & monitoring of
SLA’s is done using these tools.
• IPSec 3DES encryption in the Network is implemented for securing the traffic on the
network.
• Enterprise-wide data warehouse is implemented to integrate Data from multiple-
source systems & provides MIS & data feed Solution. Anti Money Laundering & no
operational Risk Solution. It has improved statutory compliances, monitoring of
suspicious Transactions.
