Monthly Scholarship Report

(August)

With the start of a new school year, I hope that I would improve myself even more now that I have
adjusted to college life. A big surprise for me is that there was a reshuffling with the sections, meaning new
classmates and new faces. This would also mean that I would not be seeing my friends that I made from 1 st
year as often as I would like because of our conflicting schedules, we would only meet at lunch or when
there is a cancellation in classes. Although I miss them, I don’t see this as a bad thing, I think this is a great
opportunity to make new friends and establish connections with my block mates. Fortunately, the block
mates that I got were rowdy but friendly.
The courses that I am currently taking this semester are Analytical Chemistry Lecture and Lab,
General Microbiology Lecture and Lab, General Ecology Lecture and Lab, Readings in Philippine History,
P.E. (Philippine Games) and Theology. I was a bit disappointed that we won’t be dissecting this semester,
but I look forward to learning something new from my professors.
Lessons are what I have expected since starting the new school year, challenging and hard. It was
a bit hectic this month that was caused by cancellations of classes due to bad weather and holidays. This
resulted in professors rushing finish lessons because we were already late compared to the other sections.
Apart from that, all I can say is that I am fortunate to have great professors who were not total terrors. Their
lessons were entertaining and engaging, I look forward to spending this semester with them.
Laboratory activities were the highlight of the day for me as I got to do interesting and fun
experiments. I enjoyed Analytical Chemistry Lab, in particular. I personally enjoy handling various
equipment or tech, such as computers, so imagine my excitement when we were asked to practice with lab
equipment, like a burette, a pH meter etc. My professor in this subject was funny and silly too, he made the
class entertaining with his bubbly personality.
For P.E., we had Philippine Games. We already had a slipper relay and jackstones as games. Our
group won the slipper relay while we had to act as assistant facilitators to the jackstone. All I can say that I
enjoyed this P.E., as it was just all fun and games.
I have attended at least two seminars this month, one relating to ecology while the other was a
career talk. The ecology seminar invited a Japanese researcher that talked about climate change. Although
there was a bit of a language barrier, I enjoyed his talk not only because of the topic, but he was a charismatic
speaker. For the career talk, the speakers talked about job opportunities that I would expect from my course
and also values to have in a workplace. They also held a personality test that would test how flexible and
adaptable I am to a situation, change etc.
This was a good start to a new school year and I have a good feeling that I will enjoy this school
year. I am currently trying my best to keep up with my studies and I hope that I would get good grades this
year.
