BIG DATA PROOF OF CONCEPT

The RCG Big Data Proof of Concept demonstrates the business value of Big Data using your data in RCG’s Big Data
Lab with Big Data technologies and analytics. This requires no investment in Big Data hardware, software, or skills
in your IT or business units.

The primary objective for RCG’s Big Data PoC is to demonstrate the business value of Big Data analytics and
business insights using client data in RCG’s Big Data Lab. This provides clients with:

 Access to RCG’s skills, experience, and facilities to jump start the learning curve and application of Big
Data analytics
 The ability to apply a Big Data technology of interest
 A low-cost, easy way to demonstrate the value of Big Data analytics and business insights to enhance
business results

The Big Data PoC requires no investment in hardware, software, or skills in a client’s IT or business departments

Proof of Concept Process


1) Identify a Business Problem Area
To gain a useful insight, the PoC requires focus on an area of interest, such as sales lift through better product
recommendations or improving healthcare outcomes through personalized treatments. This provides scope for the
PoC.

2) Collect Data Related to the Problem Area


Data related to the business problem is collected, such as customer data, customer purchase history, customer
emails, demographics, product data, product sales history, and so forth. If required, sensitive data can be masked,
simulated, or removed. RCG can help with this technical data preparation, if desired.

3) Load Data into RCG’s Big Data Lab


The collected data is loaded into RCG’s Big Data Lab. Depending on the volume of data, this can be done over high
speed communications or through physical media. RCG has a wide range of Big Data technologies available in the

4) Apply Big Data Analytics


Big Data analytics are all about finding statistical insights between data elements. RCG uses ‘R’ (open source
statistical software) and SAS to develop and refine statistical models and apply them to the client data provided.

5) Produce Results and Insights


The statistical models provide inferences that can be used by the business such as, sales lift from better product
recommendations, improved ROI on capital investments, better patient outcomes, data-driven personalized offers,
