Drawbacks of Moodle LMS:

1. No Support 24*7
Tidak ada support yang ready 24*7 di Moodle. You are basically on your
own! User harus ke forum
untuk post problems/pertanyaan/issues dan nunggu concerned person to
respond. Kalau lagi
urgent sangat repot. Hampir semua forum nya juga berbahasa inggris.
2. You need to be Tech Savvy
Dibutuhkan IT team untuk melakukan coding even untuk perubahan yang
kecil. Sehingga kurang
efisien dalam sistem ngajar mengajar, karena harus bolak balik ke tim IT
untuk melakukan
perubahan (kalau punya tim IT? kalau tidak, makin pusing). Jadi require
team IT to manage &
maintain functionalities yang meliputi update feature, bug fixes, server
maintenance, storage &
security dll.
3. Customization
Karena open source, mereka hanya menyediakan feature, software, dsb.
Sehingga untuk
mengcustom nya ataupun men-“tweak”, build dan develop... bener2 harus
menyiapkan orang IT
yang capable untuk melakukannya.
4. UI yang kurang user friendly
Moodle punya UI sangat lah basic dan tidak user friendly dan cenderung
confusing. Dashboard
nya pun sulit untuk dimengerti. Students/teacher often have a problem
using it (based on reviews).
5. Reporting
Reporting nya sangat basic/ limited. Salah satu contoh misalnya kita tidak
bisa liat apakah si
student sudah meng-akses (viewed) courses tersebut atau belum.

6. No Tagging
Tagging mempermudah dalam pencarian sebuah file. Moodle tidak memiliki
“tag”.
7. User Management
Pengaturan user yang kurang dynamic. My learning bisa sampe akses ke
parents dan tiap modul
bisa diatur siapa yang lihat.
8. Moodle is not fully developed to cope with big projects.
Moodle mungkin lebih berguna untuk sekolah yang skala nya kecil, namun
untuk size yang lebih
besar kurang aplicable dan tidak efektif.
9. Lack of Complete development (lanjut dr no 8)
Berdasarkan review, banyak yang mengeluh dan mengalami trouble ketika
melakukan
customization sehingga byk idak sesuai keinginan/ effisien. Again, require
coding skills.
10. Difficult to integrate
Adanya kesulitan untuk mengintegrasi atau mendistribusikan konten dan
manage multiple school
atau department. Contoh IPEKA ada banyak cabang. Penabur banyak
cabang.. untuk
mengintegrasi nya ke pusat sulit. Ada juga kesulitan dalam integrasi dengan
department Human
Resource.

Bonus Challenges:
• What if something goes wrong with your system, while you have end
users in it? Do you
have a process on how to handle that?
Worse, what if your key IT/IS person is sick, injured or leaves the company,
do you have a back-up
that can and knows the system to handle anything and make mods, etc?

• You have unlimited users, but with off the shelf courses, the same issue
still applies with
seat purchases. You still have to purchase seats for that content and that
will cost.
They will not give you unlimited seats – okay they will – but it will cost
major $$$. For your own
content/courses, it is free – so you can have unlimited users.
• Do you have someone who can dedicate the time needed for your open
source LMS/
LCMS? At many companies, it can be difficult to have someone who has
unfettered amount
of time to do so, considering everything else on their plate.
Scheduling becomes a challenge in of itself, especially with small IS/IT
departments, where the
person is expected to handle multiple tasks.
