CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

This study was taken to analyse the relationship between the different ages and the systolic blood
pressure. The systolic blood pressure was measured for 30 people of different ages.

The study was organized by semester 4 students of AS1204_C to satisfy the requirements for the syllabus
of Basic Statistics and Probability (STA108). We chose to evaluate the relationship between different ages
and the systolic blood pressure. In this study, it helps us to determine whether the different ages effect
the systolic blood pressure.

The different ages defined the systolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is measured from the
different ages. The range for ages of people is 52 years old and systolic blood pressure are in range
141mm/hg. From the data it was shown that a very young person can have a high blood pressure.

From the study, the different ages is an explanatory variable and the systolic blood pressure is response
variable. This is because systolic blood pressure is depends on the different ages. The data shows a
moderate positive correlation which is 0.658.

1.2 Objectives of Study

The objective of this study are as follows:

1. To find the relationship between the different ages and the systolic blood pressure.

2. To determine whether the different ages effect the systolic blood pressure.
CHAPTER 2: METHODOLOGY

2.1 Data Description

I. Population

- All people of random ages

II. Sample

- 30 people of random ages

III. Sampling technique

- Simple random sampling is used in this survey. The sample was collected randomly from
sampling frame which is a list of all people of different ages that have high blood pressure.

IV. Data collection method

V. Secondary data analysis. It is the data that was originally collected for other research purposes.
The advantages of this method are it is more economical because the researcher does not have
to devote money, time, energy and resources to this phase of research while disadvantage of
using secondary data is that the researcher does not know exactly how the data collection
process was done or how well it was carried out.

VI. Descriptions of variable

- The variables of this survey are the different ages and the systolic blood pressure.

Variable Type of variable Level of measurement

Quantitative continuous Ratio scale

Different ages - The data is expressed in number - Top of measurement
- The number of data can be in fraction - The scale allows the multiplication and
division

Quantitative continuous Ratio scale

Systolic blood pressure - The data is expressed in number - Top of measurement
- The number of data can be in fraction - The scale allows the multiplication and
division
