In order to inspire students to learn and to use that knowledge meaningfully, educators

need to deliver authentic and meaningful learning experiences that link learning to life outside
the school; a life in which students will need to successfully negotiate linguistic and cultural
differences throughout a broad network.
Through the engagement of multiliterate texts into curriculum activities teachers have
been able to discover how the multiple elements of contemporary text combine to create
meaning, and thus are successful in raising the performance of students through more authentic
and meaningful teaching and learning practices.
Literacy is an important key component in almost every individual’s life. Also literacy
could be described as one of the most important building blocks of our society. As our world and
society becomes more complex, literacy becomes more and more important.
I learned that Building and Enhancing Literacies across the Curriculum course opens with an exploration
of the social context and aims of literacy teaching and learning. It also encompasses the knowledge and skills
of students need to access, understand, analyze and evaluate information, make meaning, express thoughts
and emotions, present ideas and opinions, interact with others and participate in activities at school and in
their lives beyond school….

Becoming literate is not simply about knowledge and skills. Certain behaviors and dispositions assist
students to become effective learners who are confident and motivated to use their literacy skills broadly.

And as an educator soon, I can use what I learned in cultivating and strengthening young minds. An
essential component of this task is ensuring students are literate because literacy is so fundamental to
learning that its importance cannot be overstated — it is the essential foundation of education. The ultimate
aim of any education system to the equip its children with the necessary literacy, numeracy and wider skills
that they need to take control of their destinies and fulfill their potential.

Literacy is the first step towards freedom, towards liberation from social and economic constraints. It
is the prerequisite for development, both individual and collective. It reduces poverty and inequality, creates
wealth, and helps to eradicate problems of nutrition and public health.
Literacy plays a big part in our life. Literacy and education are the tools through which
the well-being of society is possible by applying knowledge and skills attained. Literate and
educated society know the ways, methods and skills to tackle problems and by using
knowledge, the society's betterment and well-being is achieved. A highly literate and education
population will be better able to deal with issues of governance especially in a high diverse
society.
In today’s society learners experience a diversity of cultures, globalisation, rapid social
and technological change and changing literary practices .In order to achieve learning success for
all students, the concept of ‘multiliteracies’ challenges the traditional idea that there is only
one single correct literacy, and supports the notion of a multi-modal literacy in which linguistic
and cultural diversity is incorporated to ‘create learning conditions for full social participation’
