“Not Even Getting Better, but Floods in Indonesia
are Getting Worse”
Typhoon Hagibis triggered floods and landslides as it hits in Japan on 12 October with
wind speed of 225 km/h. More than seven million people must be leaving their house as the
huge storm approached, and around 67 people have killed. Meanwhile, Indonesia was also hits
by flood on 24 October, precisely in the district Aceh Barat. This flood makes around hundreds
homes having damage. The height of water is reached 60 cm. Despite the destruction, the
citizens find the difference between flooding in Japan and in Indonesia.

It was getting viral on internet lately, how flood in Japan did not has any kind of garbage
or rubbish on it. It was relatively clean water flood if we compare with the flood in other
country, especially Indonesia. The road beneath almost visible in some part. it give us prove
how good water environmental management in Japan. Water plays the important roles for
human life, but in Indonesia we can not see that fact. As if water is not the essential part of
Indonesian life. When flood came, we also can see all the kind of water pollution that made
by household waste and others.

Floods caused by heavy rain are called natural floods, of course heavy rains are the
most common reason for flooding. Besides that, natural causes, flooding can also be caused by
human actions or unexpected things such as a broken dam. Read also kind of disasters in
indonesia. Here several point that causes of floods in indonesia is high rainfall, the great ocean
wave, river silting / excessive sedimentation, the land is not able to absorb water, incorrectly
manage spatial systems, deforestation, littering, land reclamation, construction of dam and
reservoir, drainage changed without paying amdal, broken dam, the number of rivers, and too
many buildings.
