WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Mallory Soriao

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students’ work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.G.A.4: Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface
area, and volume.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
This assignment is a continuation of the online projects assignment. In this assignment, students will be
addressing the math content standards for sixth grade about volume surface area and real-world
mathematical problems. Students will create blog posts explaining what they do day to day in the process of
creating their cereal boxes. Students will use the blog to record the connections they make and the questions
that they have as they go through the design process.

The teacher will introduce this idea at the beginning of the unit. The teacher will also monitor students’
blogposts make sure that they are appropriate. Students will use this blog over the course of their project
which is to be about 1 to 2 weeks. The audience that will view these blog posts will be anybody in the
classroom as well as parents. All information that students provide will be anonymized so to protect the
identities of the children.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This lesson is LoTi level 5 because
Students are creating authentic posts and communicating ideas that they have about area surface area
volume in their creation of a cereal box. Students will also ask questions and record their ideas about how
to design their own cereal box. The use of blogposts requires students to focus on their personal goal setting
and self-monitoring of the project. Using the blog, students are learning through analysis synthesis and
evaluation. Lastly, this blog post allows students to collaborate with other classrooms or even businesses to
create publish product.
Importance of technology: Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the project? Using a classroom
blog is critical to this project because it allows students to have quick access to publish thoughts questions
an ideas that they have to the Internet. Also the ability to have all of these things recorded in one place that
can be accessible either in the classroom or at home is beneficial to the student because they don't have to
keep up with a Journal and all of the group members can access it as well as classmates.Without this
technology, students would not be able to see how others are processing ideas an could cause them to
become more stuck if they have questions .the idea of blogposts allows students to be more in charge of

their process rather than following prompts from a teacher in a Journal reflection. having students create
blogposts allows them to collaborate and see the ideas of others which may help answer questions bring
new ideas and continue the creative process in the classroom and outside of the classroom.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: This project would have to be done with permission of parents as
students would be given the opportunities to publish their work blogs online. In order to minimize any
possible risks to students or myself, students will not include any personal information in their blog posts,
rather they will use anonymized names and come up with team names so that they cannot be identified to
an online world. These blogposts will also be monitored by the teacher to ensure that students are using the
technology appropriately. The teacher will also send a letter home either by email or printed to the parents
explaining the purpose of the use of the technology and the safety precautions that will occur.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My goal for this activity is to stay on top of monitoring that students are posting as well as posting
appropriately. I feel that this is a challenge for me to be more on top of time management as well as helping
students be more on Top of their own time management.
