Malayperumal Pillai

Mr. Malayperumal Pillai is the maternal grandfather of R. Emmanuel Raj

Erwin. It was during the period when Tamils migrated to Malaysia as laborers to
work in rubber plantations, that Mr. Malayperumal Pillai too left his homeland to
reach the Malaysian soil. He left his hometown Karaikal in South India in the year
1900 AD to work as an accountant and in civil construction in Malaysia. During this
time, Malaysia was an underdeveloped country and English language was not known
to many. Many did not know how to speak English.

Mr. Malayperumal Pillai who resided in Eppo District understood the importance of
learning English language. Owing to his keen interest in spreading the learning of
English language, he wanted the people around him to study the language. With this
good intention in mind, he set off house to house in Eppo district inviting children
to come to his house to study English from him. He gave away his own land as
donation towards building an English medium school. This English medium school
which stands tall in Eppo district even today is a symbol of Tamil pride and honor.
It was on the soil donated by Mr. Malayperumal Pillai of Tamil ethnicity that an
English medium school was built and verily it is a matter of great pride to all Tamil
brethren.
