Significance of Ozone

The ozonosphere plays a very important role in creating the planet livable, by engrossing most of the
solar ultraviolet radiation before it reaches the Earth’s surface. Thus, to understand the significance of
ozone is very much important for everyone. In order to protect every single creature whether it will be a
human being, animal or plant everything living on earth are protected by Ozone. Ozone is a gas that
helps to protect everything on earth from harmful UV radiations from the Sun. It presents in the
atmosphere. Without the layer of ozone, nobody can survive on this earth. It is very difficult for every
creature. The layer acts as a shield to soak up the ultraviolet light rays, and keep them from doing harm
at the surface. Ozone is that the gas present naturally within the surroundings. Its formula is O3,
whereas formula of oxygen is O2. In presence of halogens, O3 gets regenerate to O2. Ozone is present is
2 layers of the atmosphere. About ten of gas is present in the lower layer of atmosphere referred to as
layer that is found at a distance of concerning 6-10 miles from the surface of the planet. the most
important part of gas comprising of the remaining ninetieth is present within the higher layer of
atmosphere referred to as layer situated at the space of concerning thirty miles from the surface of the
planet. It's this layer that is named because of the ozonosphere. The sun radiates the massive type of
radiations together with ultraviolet radiations that are terribly harmful to the physique. The
ozonosphere absorbs ultraviolet light rays and prevents them from coming back to the surface of the
planet, therefore, saving the individuals from harmful rays. This ozone within the layer is taken into
account to be “good gas." The ozonosphere occurring naturally within the lower layers of the
atmosphere helps take away the pollutants from the surface of the planet.

The amount of ozone layer varies from location to location. There are many harmful effects of
ultraviolet radiations. In humans, ultraviolet radiation causes skin cancer and cataracts. Ultraviolet
radiation also affects the fertility of different animals, still because of the viability of their offspring.
Plants are affected by ultraviolet radiation as a result of it affects their ability to grow and develop
properly. As you will see later, ultraviolet radiation conjointly influences however chemicals break down
and react, and this will cause harmful changes in environments and ecosystems. The ozone layer is
thinning out nowadays, and the main reason behind this is human activity. The excessive use of CFC
(Chlorofluorocarbons). These are mainly used in refrigerators, fire extinguisher, aerosol propellants etc.
There can also be said that the hemisphere of the earth may have an extra 200th depletion of the gas
that would end in natural calamities like tornadoes, avalanches, fires, tsunamis etc. Therefore, there are
many ways by which we can protect the ozone layer and our earth. Some of them are like, by limiting
the use of vehicles reduces the damage caused by the ozone layer, by using eco-friendly household
products which is used for cleaning purpose, avoiding pesticides, on banning the use of nitrous oxide
which is very much dangerous chemical for the destruction of the ozone layer. These can also result in
the prevention of ozone depletion. Hence, to save our earth from this harmful UV radiation we must
take these steps.
