Dear Parents or Guardians:

Hello! Welcome to my kindergarten classroom! My name is Ms. Hopkins. I am so incredibly to

start this year off with your kiddos. I thank you for trusting me with them as I know we will have

the best year together!

A little bit about myself: I am a new teacher, but I am determined. I am ready to be the best

possible teacher that I can for your children. I am a very fun and outgoing person but also know

when it is time to work and get things done. I have a very loud and dysfunctional family, so I

know how it is to be in what could possibly be, a loud and dysfunctional classroom the first few

weeks!

I am very excited for this year as I have many things planned for my students. I have some fun

field trips already in the planning process that will go along with what they will be learning in

the classroom. My goal is for all of my students to learn to the best of their abilities and provide

a safe and inclusive environment for all that are welcomed into my classroom. I want all of my

students to be prepared for the first grade and feel ready to take that step into the first grade by

the time that they are graduating from kindergarten. Students who may need extra help more than

others will receive it. I am willing to dedicate my time and energy to my students so that they can

be successful in school and in life.

I want my communication between you and me to be as open and honest as possible. For each

week I will be sending home a weekly letter on Friday that will go in my students folders that

will also include any homework or any work that they have completed that week. The weekly

news letter will include things that your child has done in class that week and a description of

that as well as any upcoming events or important dates that you will need to know for your child.
My hope is that through this news letter you can be aware of what is going on inside of my

classroom and the things that your child is doing. I want them to be excited about learning and to

help that, if you as parents or guardians are informed, you can also help them become excited! I

also will have Class Dojo that your students will be able to use and track their progress as well.

Having strong communication between all three of us is detrimental in your students learning.

With stronger communication comes trust within all. Trust is a huge part of student learning.

Below this letter I will include my email address as well as my phone number and I can be

reached by any at all times (except the weekends, that is for me!)

Within my realm of communication, I am the best at empathetic responding. I am well aware of

other people’s feelings and I am able to walk 100 miles in their shoes if I need to. This is

beneficial to me as a teacher because if there is a problem I am able to hear what you need to say

and respond in a way that will keep our relationship positive and allows us to be able to have

further discussion in a way that makes both parties happy. I hope to be able to always reach an

agreement or a conclusion when it comes to solving a problem that is with your child or with me.

I am always happy to help, and my ears are always open to what you have to say. One of my

weaker communication skills that I need to develop more on is constructive assertiveness. I am

not a very confrontational person and it is difficult for me to voice my concerns as I don’t want

to hurt other people’s feelings at the same time. I am working hard every day to be able to find

out productive ways to voice my concerns and ways to fix those concerns in a way that will

benefit all. This isn’t something that comes easy for me and I need your help as far as working

with me and being patient with me.

As I have said before I am so excited for this next year and learning more about your children! I

can already tell they are a bright group of students and I am so eager to get into the classroom
and start working with them. A little side note: my theme for this year is cowboy/cowgirls so

during the first Friday of school I would love if you could have them dress up as a

cowboy/cowgirl in whatever way they are feeling like dressing!

Thank you so much!

Ms. Hopkins
