Prescription Paper

After taking multiple health assessment tests, I’ve concluded that I am reasonably healthy

compared to others in my age bracket. The Cardiovascular Risk Assessment test I took asked for

details including my weekly physical activity, nutritional habits, systolic and diastolic blood

pressure, and a couple other factors to determine my level of risk. After twenty minutes of

entering information, the results showed that I am at low to no risk of being in danger from

cardiovascular related diseases. I have also taken a separate holistic health and wellness test

consisting fifty questions, ten for each dimension of holistic health. It measured my spiritual,

physical, emotional, mental, and social health somewhat thoroughly. After seeing my results, I

was relieved to see that all dimensions of my holistic health were between fair and good which

was great on the scale they provided. I do however have quite a bit to work on to attain a greater

level of health as it isn’t only beneficial to me but also to those who I have close relationships

with, whether it be friend or family. Toxicity is contagious but positivity can be as well.

Physical health is extremely important as it is a major factor in how well our body’s

mechanical functions are maintained. Because of that reason, I’ve done extensive research into

what kind of food and physical activity went into creating and maintaining a healthy body.

Nutrition was never really an issue for me since my family is extremely health oriented. My

meals always consisted of a variety of vegetables, rice, and some sort of protein dish to balance it

all out. Recently however I haven’t been eating enough complex carbohydrates which lowers my

energy levels throughout the day. I need to get back on track with eating a full and balanced diet

while making time in my schedule to exercise and lift weights. This should help bring my energy

levels back to normal while improving my cardiovascular fitness and strength. One way to

maintain my healthy nutrition and to prepare for when I move out of my parent’s house is to start
meal prepping. This actually eliminates the need to think about what you want to eat for each

meal and makes it much more faster and efficient when going out to buy groceries as you only

really need to purchase a few items for a couple days to a week’s worth of meals. I have already

attempted to make food for every meal without the intent of having enough for leftovers for the

next meal or day; this was very exhausting and was definitely not worth the time and effort to do.

The importance of sustaining a healthy lifestyle could mean the difference between living

a pain-filled fifty years or ninety vigorous and healthy years. Maintaining your mental, spiritual,

physical, emotional, and social health all contribute to a healthy lifestyle. The physical side of it

has to do with having the proper nutrition and exercise regimen. These two things combined

make for a healthy, functional body and also ties in to your mental and emotional health as well.

Many studies show that proper nutrition and exercise boost your energy levels significantly

which helps to develop a better state of mind. Spiritual health is just as important as all the

others; belonging to a club or even something as simple as volunteering raises your spiritual

health. The sense of having a purpose in life and being around those who are positive and

dedicated creates a good environment to be in. Spiritual health is somewhat tied in with social

health which is why it’s related with forgiveness, compassion, and group oriented settings.

The first goal I should improve on to lead a healthier lifestyle is to work on my social

health. Outside of my family and church friends, I don’t really have many close friends left as

many of them have moved far away and we’ve just naturally drifted apart as many others do.

I’ve left it alone for a long time and it has noticeably affected me in ways that are extremely

unhealthy. It has even begun to affect my mental and emotional health to some degree.

Loneliness is a painful thing to deal with and no one should ever have to suffer from that. On that

note, I’ll have to force myself to leave the house to attend more outings and special events to
make new friends that I can one day go out and have fun with. This could mean going to a

concert, parties, conventions, or even just a local community event. The second goal for me to

work on is to get back on track with my physical fitness regimen. I had previously started a six

week boot camp that challenged my mental and physical limits. I’m happy to say that I was

successful and content with my results. I continued with a year long membership in the gym I

enrolled with to improve my body even further but had a lapse of weakness where I decided I

would take a break after a vacation because I made the excuse that it was too much work. The

hard part like most people say is the nutrition. Paired with my high metabolism and desire to gain

weight, I had to consume around four thousand calories a day to gain a steady amount of weight

on a weekly basis. The journey was exhausting and hard to deal with in all aspects considering

those calories more or less had to be of the healthy variety. I have already made up my mind to

continue the membership and to better prepare myself to handle this situation with a determined

attitude. The last and final goal is to figure out my spiritual beliefs as this relates to my spiritual

health. I was born straight into a Christian household and from a young age, never really

understood what I was brought into until my later teenage years. Even now I sometimes wonder

if I do really believe in God or not. This kind of uncertainty has always left a bit of unease in me

as I struggled to identify myself as a Christian or non-Christian. I happen to fall in the middle at

the moment which is source of my uneasiness, meaning there isn’t really any kind of closure for

lack of a better term. I hope to look more into this and figure out if I really do believe in God and

what the bible teaches; if I can the path will be much easier.

Health isn’t just restricted to nutrition and exercise. It includes mental, spiritual,

emotional, and social health. Keeping all of them in a balanced state is the key component in

leading a long and fulfilling life. Everyone’s situation is unique and some have it harder than
others but it doesn’t mean that you can’t work on improving those aspects of your life. The work

that you put into improving each and every dimension of your holistic health will reflect in how

happy you’ll be and how content you are with the life you’ve lead.
