1 General

1.1 Purpose
This document applies to the installation of the VATC system.

2 Overview

2.1 Product Overview

The system installer packages the scripts (installation, system configuration, and startup),
configuration files, and binaries necessary for the VATC Application, and Static Test
Application installation.

2.2 Components
-On the A and B Boards the System Installer will install the scripts, configuration files, and
binaries necessary for the VATP Software.
-On the C Board the System Installer will install scripts, configuration files, and binaries
necessary for the VATO and Dispatcher Software.

3 Installation Information

3.1 Installation Targets

The system installer is to be installed on the A, B, and C board of the CoHP2 rack.

3.2 Required Software

The following software is required to load the installation packages:
-TFTP server – used to host the installation files so the target board can
upload the files.
-Tera Term – used to send commands to the target board to upload, extract,
and execute files necessary for installation.

3.3 Required Files

The following file generated by the system installer is required:
-DL7A_Install.zip

4 Installation Instructions

This procedure is largely automated. After some initial setup, the process takes care of
itself until the software has been completely installed. The following must be observed
during installation
 You MUST NOT perform any key presses in the serial terminal while the automated
portion of the install is in progress unless prompted (you will be asked to enter the Vehicle
ID and VATC Rack Number later in the installation). This could leave your device in an
unusable and unrecoverable state. If this happens, it’s possible that JTag / SPI
programmer intervention will be needed, which is difficult.
 You MUST NOT power down the device, or unplug any connections between the laptop
and the target while programming is happening.

All that aside, the installation is actually quite simple and easy to do if you take your time,
double check each step, and are careful in the procedure.

4.1 Installation procedure

1. Power on the CoHP2 Rack.
2. Extract the zip file for the installation.
To do this, navigate to the location of the zip file, right click on it, hover over 7zip (or
WinZip), and select Extract to here.

3. Plug the network cable into one of the ports on the right side of the Net IO card and connect this
to the computer being used to program the boards.

4. Set the IP Address of the programming computer.

Set the programming computer’s IP address to 192.168.1.1 as shown below. NOTE: It is best
to use a USB to Ethernet device when using a Bombardier laptop. Because of the Bombardier
network settings tied to that adapter most of the time the TFTP server can be pinged but will not
upload files to the board.

NOTE: The GSP2 installation has this address as 192.168.2.1, which it needs to be. For SW
application installation, it needs to be 192.168.1.1. It is probably easiest if the Ethernet adapter
has both 192.168.2.1/255.255.255.0 as well as 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0. You can do this by
adding an IP using the “Advanced…” button shown above.

5. Start and configure TFTP.

Start TFTP, select 192.168.1.1 as the Server interface, then click Browse (or Settings->Browse)
and navigate to the software installation directory. After you press the OK button you can verify

TFTP is pointing to the correct directory by pressing the Show Dir button and making sure you
see the installation tars.

For the B board, select the “Use challenge/response to log in (keyboard-interactive)” and enter the “User
name” (root). The “Passphrase” will be greyed out. When “OK” is clicked, a popup appears to enter the

9. Go through questions for installation. The board (A/B/C) will be automatically detected by the
prompt text. The questions include

 Board to install on (does not show if board it auto-detected)

 Vehicle Type – Below shows the dynamic test software

o
 Network to install over (typically choose 192.168.1.xxx)

10. Wait for installation to complete. A message box with “Finished” appears briefly, and once the
prompt text stops, the installation is complete.
