We are The Paly Voice,​ a 24/7 source for Palo Alto High School news​. The Voice
strives to incorporate all aspects of student life into its coverage, with an emphasis on
timely, reliable and relevant content.
We believe that as high school journalists, it is our responsibility to not only report the
news, but also to interact with our community in a meaningful way through a dedication
to transparency, strict adherence to journalistic ethics and a commitment to publishing
student content.
We strive to emulate the fair principles that define journalism and abide by the National
Scholastic Press Association’s Code of Ethics for High School Journalists. 

How does the vision expressed by students last year compare with what you individually wrote
this year? What is the language you really want to represent you?

● Here are the vision statements produced by your senior staff over the summer:

1. We will utilize create a ​collaborative environment in which each writer and

editor is encouraged by both their own commitment to the success of the
publication and the commitment of their collaborators, prompting them to
produce quality content.​ ​Our content will be truthful, eloquent, relevant to the
community, and timely.​ ​Writers and editors will not select stories to write based
solely on personal interest, but rather considering the interests of the community
and the obligation of the press to educate and inform. ​We will strive to ensure
complete coverage in all areas, with a focus on news and sports​. ​In
accomplishing this, we will become the primary source of news for students,
parents, and staff members at Palo Alto High School.

2. Voice should consist of a group of like minded people who constantly produce
and create, collaboratively and work to make the best publication possible.​ ​It's an
open environment where people's ideas are valued and free to be expressed,
without fear of being judged or ridiculed for expressing what they believe.yala
3. We, as a Paly Journalism publication, will represent the forefront of student free
speech. As a member of Paly Voice, we aim to deliver reliable, accurate, and
unbiased news to the Palo Alto High School community and the general public.
We must also aim to deliver this news with utmost speed. As an online
publication, we aim to ​utilize the many modalities of the online platform​.​ We will
expand our use of multimedia, video production, as well as visual infographics.
Furthermore, our outreach efforts should​ incorporate further social media usage
like weekly tweets, instagram posts, and snapchat videos in order​ to better
engage and update our audience.

4. As one of the many publications at Paly, The Paly Voice staff will work together
to bring the most recent news to the students, parents, staff, and other members
of the Paly and Palo Alto community. ​We will produce content in a timely manner,
while at the same time making sure we are not sacrificing the quality of the work.
Although our work is mainly for the community, we as a staff will also improve our
journalistic skills, constantly improving our work to make sure we are putting out
stories that are of our best potential.​ We will also make sure we are representing
Paly in a good way by doing all of these things.

5. We report the truth in order to inform and enrich the lives of those in the Palo Alto
Senior High School community. ​We work to deliver the best work we can,
through diligently seeking the truth and not merely stories, through thoughtfully
writing insightful and thorough analysis of controversial topics, and through
curiously reaching out and participating in a wide variety of social discussions,
from social justice to smarter living. We pledge to produce and publish respectful
and original work ​that adds social conversation and the digital mediasphere, and
to keep updated with the latest technology in order to make the user experience
as streamlined as possible.

6. My vision for the staff is to be able to ​work together and empower each other ​t​o
create the best writing in the most timely manner as possible.​ I hope that we will
be able to use multimedia accounts, such as Instagram and Snapchat, in
conjunction with our news website to deliver the news to our school.

7. We are the voice for Palo Alto High School students and will not stop until the
truth is told. ​We will create a collaborative and safe atmosphere where everyone
feels comfortable sharing their opinion. ​We will cover a range of topics: news,
sports, culture, arts, opinion, features, etc. ​All ideas are great and unique and
should be shared regardless of how little importance you believe it has. All our
actions are aimed at sharing all different stories in an unbiased manner: no
manipulation of the quotes or opinions. ​We will use social media and other
sources to help increase our viewership.
 8. The Paly Voice will strive to empower student journalists with the ability to
connect with our community and contribute to stories that matter. ​Working in a
cooperative environment, student journalists will work as a team to complete a
high-quality product. The Paly Voice will produce news stories, feature stories,
sports stories and other stories of interest in a timely manner, ​making full benefit
of our unique position as an all-online publication​.​ ​We understand we are an
important part of this community, and will uphold high standards for ethics and
responsibility in our reporting and in the day-to-day operation of the publication.

9. We will be a publication driven to report on breaking news in addition to

maintaining a wide variety of content on our webpage, incorporating all facets of
student life into our coverage.​ ​As a fully online publication, ​we will do our best to
remain at the forefront of breaking news,​ covering stories as soon as we can.​ ​We
will strive to be an example for all student journalists through a commitment to
transparency, strict adherence to the ethics of journalism, and dedication to the
betterment of our community.

We will work to create quality content through the collaborative efforts of both writers
and editors on the Voice staff and foster a community which upholds a dedication to
transparency, strict adherence to journalistic ethics and a commitment to bettering both
all members of our staff and the wider Palo Alto community.

We are the Paly Voice, Palo Alto High School’s online news publication. With our

unique capabilities as a 24/7 online publication, we strive to fulfill our obligations to the

community with informative and educational content, which is timely and of high quality.

In order to accomplish this, we will work to utilize the diverse modalities of our online

platform, including a strong presence across social media sites. O​ur intent is to foster

a collaborative environment in which each writer and editor is empowered by

both their own commitment to the success of the publication and the

commitment to their collaborators. ​As we do this, our goal is to uphold the principles

that define fair journalism and abide by the National Scholastic Press Association’s
