Instructions on how to set-up your paper are on

Part One: Writing

Selection:
• Copy and paste the short passage that you have chosen to write about. (If you’ve
chosen a passage from two different drafts or assignments, label each accordingly.)

Part Two: Reflection on your

writing:
• Write a reflection of approximately 300 – 500 words explaining why you chose this passage, and what it
shows about you as a writer. (Be sure to mention which assignment the passage(s) is from.)
• Begin your reflection by stating why you chose this
passage(s).
• Tell the reader what your selection(s) illustrates about your
writing.
▪ For example, you may believe this piece shows improvement because you made significant
revisions.
▪ Or maybe this passage shows something you learned in a later assignment that you don’t think
you could have achieved in the first weeks of the semester.
• Your reflection should refer specifically to the passage(s) you’ve selected, and it should include strong,
focused paragraphs.
• You should include specific reasons for the quality of the passage(s). For example, if it’s
good:
▪ Did you simply put more time into it?
▪ Did you get help from a writing
consultant?
▪ Did something we covered in class help to improve this specific piece of
writing?
▪ Did you do better because you liked this particular assignment or
topic?

Part Three: Reflection on your experience in

WRT 098:
 • Write a reflection of approximately 300 – 500 words detailing your experiences/growth in WRT
098.
▪ Mention how your experience in WRT 098 has affected your
writing.
▪ Include why you chose WRT 098 instead of WRT 150, and how you feel about that choice now that
you’ve completed the course.
▪ Lastly, since the point of WRT 098 is to prepare you for WRT 150, discuss how you feel about
taking WRT 150 next semester.

Other factors to possibly include in your reflections in Part 2

and Part 3:
• Your high school writing
experience
• Your confidence level both before and after taking WRT
098
• Your experience at the Writing Center or Knowledge
Market
• Interactions with your weekly writing consultant and with your writing group
members
• Specific content/skills you learned in WRT 098. Or, skills you wish would have been covered in
more detail
• The amount of time and effort you put into the
class

You don’t have to discuss all of the factors in the above list, just the ones relevant to your experience in
WRT 098.
