CHAPTER 2 - Introduction

2 Introduction
This chapter contains an introduction to AVEVA Integration Service (Service), the other
AVEVA products that it interfaces with and AVEVA Licensing System (ALS).

2.1 About AVEVA Integration Service

AVEVA Integration Service (Service) provides easy, quick and effective data transfers
between different data sources (AVEVA and non-AVEVA product data) installed in
different machines on the network. It provides a common platform for Plant, Marine and
Engineering products for accessing and using data from other products so that the data
management across products can be done effectively. The Service allows administrators
to configure a variety of data sources such as AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Engineering, AVEVA
Diagrams, AVEVA Everything 3D, AVEVA Schematics, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SQL
Server. Data sources configured on the integration server can be consumed by one or
more AVEVA applications that can connect to the Service.

A primary consumer of the Service is the Compare/Update feature, which is available in

various AVEVA products, such as AVEVA P&ID and AVEVA Engineering. Based on the data
interoperability requirement, users need to create appropriate configurations that define
the source of data (which can be tables, procedures or views) and the attributes from
source and destination product data.

2.2 Interfaces with Other Applications

The following applications are supported by AVEVA Integration Service (Service):

Dabacon-based Non Dabacon-based

AVEVA Diagrams AVEVA Electrical
AVEVA Engineering AVEVA ERM
AVEVA Everything3D AVEVA Instrumentation
AVEVA Marine AVEVA NET Workhub and Dashboard
AVEVA PDMS AVEVA P&ID
Microsoft Excel

CHAPTER 2 - Introduction

2.3 About AVEVA Licensing System

The licensing of AVEVA Integration Service (Service) is managed by AVEVA Licensing
System (ALS). To operate, AVEVA software must access the correct ALS license file, which
is installed on the server, the workstation or on a networked workstation. ALS is a
network license service, which hands out floating licenses to clients. These licenses are
not tied to any specific workstation but can be used from any workstation where the
software is installed, as long as the total number of licenses in use does not exceed the
number of licenses purchased. For more details, see the ALS manuals available on the
AVEVA support site.

Note: Although the disk contains several AVEVA products, you can use only those items
for which you have procured the licenses. You will receive an on-screen notification when
the license is due for renewal.

CHAPTER 3 - Deployment Architectures

3 Deployment Architectures
The installation of AVEVA Integration Service (Service) varies depending on your
environment and whether your data source and client are Dabacon-based. This chapter
describes the three deployment architectures that can be used for installing the Service
and lists the components of the Service that must be installed in various installation
scenarios.

3.1 Three-computer Deployment

This is the recommended deployment architecture for best performance. In this scenario,
the data source, AVEVA Integration Service (Service) and client are installed on different
computers. To fetch the data, the client sends a request to the Service and the Service
fetches the data from the data source, and sends it to the client. Therefore, the client
must point to the computer on which the Service is installed and the Service must point
to the computer on which the data source is installed.

The process to perform a three-computer deployment is as follows:

1. Install the client on Computer A. For instructions on installing the client, refer
to the corresponding installation guide.
2. Install AVEVA Integration Service on Computer B. For instructions on the
installing the Service, see Installing AVEVA Integration Service.
3. Install the data source on Computer C. For instructions on installing the data
source, see the corresponding installation guide.
4. Configure the data source with the Service. For instructions on configuring the
data source with the Service, refer to the AVEVA Integration Service Setup
Guide.
5. Configure the client to point to the Service. For examples on configuring the
client to point to the Service, see Appendix: Sample Configurations.

AVEVA Integration Service Installation Guide
CHAPTER 3 - Deployment Architectures

While installing AVEVA Integration Service in a three-computer deployment, the

components of the Service that need to be installed on Computer A are as follows:
· If you are using AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Instrumentation or AVEVA Electrical as the
client, install Integration Client. AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Instrumentation and AVEVA
Electrical use Integration Client to establish the connection to the Service.
· If you are using any other product (Dabacon or non-Dabacon) as the client, no
additional software is needed. Integration Client and Notification Client are
optional, but are useful to verify a successful connection.

Additionally, the following configurations must be made for Computer A:

· Open port 8083 for use by Integration Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules.
· Open port 8071 for use by Notification Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules. This is not needed if Notification Service is
not used or installed.
· When configuring the Service for use by the client, enter the name of the
computer where the Service is installed (in this case, Computer B):

The components of the Service that must be installed on Computer B are as follows:
· Integration Service
· Notification Service, if you are using AVEVA ERM as the data source.
Note: Integration Client and Notification Client are optional, but useful to verify a
successful connection.

AVEVA Integration Service Installation Guide
CHAPTER 3 - Deployment Architectures

Additionally, the following configurations need to be made for Computer B:

· Open port 8083 for use by Integration Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules.
· Open port 8071 for use by Notification Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules. This is not needed if Notification Service is
not used or installed.
· If the Service needs to access network drives to connect to the project data, then
create and use a service account (for example, AIS_Account in the following
screen shot) to run the Service. This account must have Administrator rights on
Computer B, and must have Read access to the network drives where the
accessed projects are located.

No additional software is required to be installed on Computer C. However, ensure that

the service account used to run the Service has access to the required network drives, if
connecting to Dabacon products.

CHAPTER 3 - Deployment Architectures

3.2 Two-computer Deployment

In this scenario, the data source and AVEVA Integration Service (Service) are installed on
one computer and client is installed on a different computer. To fetch the data, the client
sends a request to the Service and the Service fetches the data from the data source, and
sends it to the client. Therefore, the client and Service should point to the same computer
on which the Service itself is installed.

You must follow the two-computer deployment architecture if your data source is a
Dabacon-based product. This is because if your data source is a Dabacon-based product,
the Service must be installed on the same computer as the data source.

The process to perform a two-computer deployment is as follows:

1. Install the client on Computer A. For instructions on installing the client, refer
to the corresponding installation guide.
2. Install AVEVA Integration Service on Computer B. For instructions on the
installing the Service, see Installing AVEVA Integration Service.
3. Install the data source on Computer B. For instructions on installing the data
source, refer to the corresponding installation guide.
4. Configure the data source with the Service. For instructions on configuring the
data source with the Service, refer to the AVEVA Integration Service Setup
Guide.
5. Configure the client to point to the Service. For examples on configuring the
client to point to the Service, see Appendix: Sample Configurations.

While installing AVEVA Integration Service in a two-computer deployment, the

components of the Service that need be installed on Computer A are as follows:
· If you are using AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Instrumentation or AVEVA Electrical as the
client, install Integration Client. AVEVA P&ID, AVEVA Instrumentation and AVEVA
Electrical use Integration Client to establish the connection to the Service.
· If you are using any other product (Dabacon or non-Dabacon) as the client, no
additional software is needed. Integration Client and Notification Client are
optional, but useful to verify a successful connection.

Additionally, the following configurations need to be made for Computer A:

· Open port 8083 for use by Integration Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules.
· Open port 8071 for use by Notification Service. If the port is not available, then
create inbound/outbound TCP rules. This is not needed if Notification Service is
not used or installed.
· When configuring the Service for use by the client, enter the name of the
computer where the Service is installed (in this case, Computer B):

The components of the Service that need to be installed on Computer B are as follows:
· Integration Service
· Notification Service, if you are using AVEVA ERM as the data source.
Note: Integration Client and Notification Client are optional, but useful to verify a
successful connection.

3.3 One-computer Deployment

In this scenario, the data source, AVEVA Integration Service (Service) and client are
installed on the same computer. To fetch the data, the client sends a request to the
Service and the Service fetches the data from the data source, and sends it to the client.
Therefore, the client and Service must point to the same computer on which they are
installed.

The process to perform a one-computer deployment is as follows:
