SPENDING BEHAVIOR OF ABM STUDENTS IN CZCMNHS

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study

Spending conduct has never been steady. It contrasts starting with one era then onto the
next. At present, students assume a vital part as one noteworthy part of the general purchaser
spending in the nation. Previously, books, stationaries, garments and other comparable items
were purchased by understudies for their study. In the mean time, at this present age, student’s
needs have increased because laptops are required for assignments and ventures. Propels in
innovation have likewise prompted expansion of understudy's costs. Student’s expenses are
directly associated to student’s resources. Being wise in one’s spending will lead to improved
available resources and reduced financial problems during education. College students spending
was identified as one important component of the total consumer spending. (Jeni Theresa C.
Bona,2017)

Spending behaviour is generally a behavior that affects the way a person uses his or her
money to fulfill his or her wants and needs without any use of command. Whether students
spend their own money can become a habit that can be a difficult thing to change, as behavior
has been conditioned by the environment.

Castor Z. Concepcion Memorial National High School is among the schools in La Union
located within the public establishments where every youth and young students alike can
hangout and spend their money whenever they want to. The school offers academic program
including accountancy, business, and management studies. Looking inside the subject, it teaches
the students about the issues regarding expenses and it includes money. If these students are
being taught about money, then they have a big opportunity of spending it wisely. As a youth
and a part of the society, it is important for Accountancy, Business Management (ABM) students
to be aware of the major factors they are facing in spending their “baon” or allowance and how
do they budget it. A qualitative study of spending behavior will tackle their understanding about
their expenses and spending behavior. This will illustrate different mindset and behaviors of the
student towards financial matter. This also beneficial to teachers and parents as well as they are
the most affected in terms of monetary issues.
B. Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the Spending Behavior of ABM Students in Castor Z.
Concepcion Memorial National High School (CZCMNHS) and how they manage their
allowances.

C. Significance of the Study

The results of the study will benefit the following:

The ABM students. This will dive into the awareness of the students about their
expenses and spending behavior. It will enhance their capability of applying their perceptions
and conception from their field of study to the real world and as a part of their daily practices.

The parents. The ABM students’ parents will gain more information for they are the
most affected in terms of monetary issues.

The teachers. This study will help the teachers in guiding the students in managing their
allowances or spending behavior.

The researchers. The researchers will gain more knowledge about spending behavior of
ABM students.

The future researchers. This will serve as a guide or basis for a better research paper.

D. Scope and Delimitation

This study will be focus on the topic Spending Behavior of ABM Students in
CZCMNHS. It will be conducted at Castor Z. Concepcion Memorial National High School
during the second semester of the school year 2019-2020. The respondents of this study are
Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Students who are officially enrolled
on the said school year.

E. Definition of Terms

The following terms were defined operationally to ensure better understanding.

ABM. Stands for Accountancy, Business, and Management, is a strand for those students
who plan to take business-related courses in higher education.
 Allowance. A share or portion allotted or granted, amount of money given to ABM
students.

Baon. A Filipino term or translation of the word “allowance”. Also means something that
is bought for in case of emergency.

Behavior. The manner of conducting oneself.

Budget. The amount of money that is available for, required for, or assigned to a
particular purpose.

Money. Something generally accepted as a medium of exchange, a measure of value or

means of payment.

Spending. To use up or pay out.

Spending Behavior. Defined as the act of disbursing money in response to an action,

environment or person in satisfaction of needs and wants.
