7.2.1 Academic Audit Assessment Criteria

The purpose of Academic Audit is to evaluate the performance of the department and appreciate
their achievements and give suggestions for further improvement of the quality of teaching,
research and extracurricular activities. The following are the major objectives of audit:
1. To assess the strength and weakness of the department.
2. To suggest the initiatives that may be taken for the improvement.
3. To ascertain whether the department is functioning efficiently and effectively in terms of capacity
building and research efforts etc.
4. To identify the bottlenecks in the existing academic process and suggest methods of
improvement for maintaining quality in higher technical education.
7.2.2 Frequency
The academic audit is conducted twice in a year. The intent of this academic audit is to ensure the
overall improvement in four-year educational plan.
7.2.3 Conduct Mechanism
The academic audit committee has been assigned the responsibility to carry out quality
audit. It plays a supportive role in improving quality and standard of the education. This
committee consists of the Director Academics, an expert from outside University/Institute,
Director Principal and Head of Departments of other institutes. The committee ensures the
overall improvement of the department.

Roles and Responsibilities

 The academic audit is carried out at the beginning of the semester to check the readiness of
the department.
 The audit committee visits all the classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices and departmental
library.
 The panel evaluates the laboratory manuals, course files stock registers, attendance record,
mid semester tests (MSTs) question papers quality, unfair means cases (UMC) and other
documents for smooth functioning of the department. The team interacts with the faculty as
well as students.
 The audit team generates the audit report which includes suggestions and make
recommendations.
 To review and assess the activities organized by various students clubs and societies such as
ASME, Society of Futuristic Mechanical Technology, Society for Automotive Engineers India,
and Mechnorobs Club etc.
 The committee members review the course files of different subjects running in second,
third and final year.
 The committee reviews the quality check of the MST question papers.
 The committee ensures the completion of student class councillor files.

completed in 201718.

4. Under ASME Student Chapter, the Department has organized an Expert Talk On “ANSYS” and
Workshop on “Solid Works”.
5. The department has organized different events like expert lectures, workshop, Industrial visit and
Quiz Competitions.

1. International Conference on Contemporary Advances in Mechanical Engineering (ICCAME-2019)


was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College.
2. Department of Mechanical Engineering, was organized, Thrust 2k19 Engineers Day under
Mechnorobs Club.
3. The department has organized different events like expert lectures, workshop, and industrial visits.
4. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, is organizing 5 days Faculty Development Program
on, "Futuristic Trends in Mechanical Engineering" during October 14-18, 2019. This FDP is approved
and sponsored by AICTE and IKGPTU.

7.3- Students Placement, Higher Studies and Entrepreneurships details

1. The placement cell is established in the college campus and Faculty Coordinator from the
department is deputed for coordination.
2. Students of 3rd semester get enrolled in TPP (Training and Placement Program).
3. TPP Cell facilitates:
 In-house personality development and communication skills training. Guest Lectures for
Career Guidance.
 In-house Mock Interview and Group Discussions. AMCAT test has been started.
 Faculty coordinator with the help of CRC, monitor and help each student to be ready for the
industry platform by extensively guiding them according to requirements of the industry.
 International Affair Cell is also established in the college to help the students in higher studies.
