Vision Statement

Teachers are lifelong learners. Teachers dedicate their entire lives to help educate

children as they get ready for the real world. Being a teacher is not all about having fun playing

with children, but it is much more. It is being someone who has the opportunity to be a child’s

role model and being someone who has the opportunity to help change the world. Becoming a

teacher is a choice, and it is a choice I am choosing to make.

In my lifetime, I can honestly say I have only had a few teachers who have impacted me.

These teachers showed patience, understanding, and kindness. They were dedicated to helping

children, and they always strived to build a strong relationship with each of their students.

Building a relationship with students is crucial because it creates an opportunity for that child to

open up and feel a sense of comfort. A good teacher should be determined to help all of their

students and be able to understand their individual needs. As we know, not every student learns

in the same way, so it is important to find ways to help all students understand the lessons. The

Handbook for Teaching Certification states, “The teacher not only respects and is sensitive to all

learners but also encourages the use of all their skills and talents” (Tarleton State University,

2017, p. 33). Students spend many hours with their teachers. Many students do not have positive

role models at home, and the teacher may be the only positive role model that child has the

opportunity to interact throughout the day. Therefore, it is important to be kind to students and

show them care because it could help change a child’s life. These are all essential qualities

teachers had that helped impact my life, and this is the kind of teacher I dream of being.

A teacher should be knowledgeable about their content. A good teacher should be open to

learning new things, as well as try new techniques with their class. They should work to engage

each of their students in their activities to make learning seem less like work and more like fun.
VISION STATEMENT 3

Jenson (2005) stated, “All teachers know that engaged students are usually happier that

disconnected one who have isolated tasks to do, and research confirms that engagement activities

more of the pleasure structures in the brain than do tasks of simple memorization” (p. 35). A

good teacher does not use the same lesson plans year in and year out; they create activities and

observe to see if the students were able to grasp the concept of the material. They make a

conscious effort to change their lessons if they see that students are not understanding the

content. Students want happy, energetic teachers that show their love for teaching.

I plan to conduct effective classroom management and hold each of my students

accountable for their own actions. I will encourage my students to speak their mind and be able

to make choices on their own. I plan to create my classroom rules with my students on the first

day of class to allow them an opportunity to discuss what they think should be important rules in

our classroom. This holds each student accountable for their actions if they choose to go against

our classroom rules. As a future teacher, I will make my classroom feel like a safe and carefree

class, so my students feel welcomed every day. I understand not every student has a home where

they feel safe, so I choose to create a safe home for them. I will push myself to create a fun

atmosphere for my students and always have interactive activities for them. I will also conduct

cooperative learning within my classroom. I will have my students work together on projects to

build their team building skills and social skills to help them be successful in their future careers.

Kagan (2009) stated, “Through team building, teammates get acquainted, create a team identity,

promote mutual support, value individual differences, and develop synergistic relationships” (p.

5.7). Team building creates many positive effects for students because it allows them to work

with their peers. Students can learn best from their peers because they value their opinions.
VISION STATEMENT 4

Teachers should be a positive role model for their students. Teachers should be

knowledgeable about their content. They should go the extra mile to help all their students

succeed in class. Teachers should create a warm friendly environment so their students feel

welcomed every day. Teaching is a choice that many people have made in order to help others. It

takes patience, determination, and understanding to be an effective teacher. I know I can be that

effective teacher for students.
