Dear Bintang,
On Monday morning, Vira woke up late. She had a new Smartphone and had a chat with her
e-friends until late. Consequently, she woke up late the next morning. She didn’t hear her alarm
clock ringing.
Vira had a shower hurriedly. Her parents had left to work, so nobody reminded her to have
breakfast. Soon after locking her house, Vira rode her bicycle at high speed. Fortunately, she
didn’t arrive late at school.
She parked her bicycle, then she walked along the corridor in rush. While walking, students
looked at her. A few students smiled and even laughed at her. However, she didn’t care and kept
walking.
Entering her classroom, she stumbled and almost fell. She looked down and realized that she
wore a pair of slippers, not shoes.
Once upon a time there were four little rabbits. Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-
tail and Peter. One morning they were allowed to play outside. Their mother reminded them not
to go to Mr. McGregor’s garden because their father had an accident there.
Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail were good little rabbits. They went down the lane to pick
blackberries. But Peter was naughty. He ran straight away to Mr. McGregor’s garden. He ate
some lettuces, French beans, and radishes. Suddenly, he met Mr. McGregor. Peter was very
frightened and rushed away as fast as he could. He lost a pair of shoes and a jacket while he was
running. Peter never stopped running or looked behind him till he got home. During the evening,
he was sick because he was so tired. He had to drink some medicine while three of his brother
had bread, mild and blackberries for supper.

The following text is for questions 22 to 25
A landslide is the movement of rock, earth or debris down a sloped section of land.
Landslides are caused by rain, earthquakes, volcanoes or other factors that make the slope
unstable.
Landslides have three major causes: geology, morphology and human activities. Geology
refers to characteristics of the material itself. The earth or rock might be weak or fractured, or
different layers may have different strength and stiffness. Morphology refers to the structure of
the land. For example, slopes that lose their vegetation to fire or drought are more vulnerable to
landslides. Human activity, such as agriculture and construction, can increase the risk of a
landslide. Irrigation, deforestation and excavation can lead destabilize or weaken a slope.
A landslide can involve rock, soil, vegetation, water or some combination of all these. A
landslide caused by a volcano can also contain hot volcanic ash and lava from the eruption. A
landslide high in the mountains may have snow and snowmelt.
22. Why do the layers of soil have different strength and stiffness?
A. They contain different materials
B. They receive different pressure
C. They are located in different height
D. They are influenced by the vegetation
23. From the text, it can be concluded that ….
A. Landslides occur because of human and natural factors
B. Land with vegetation are vulnerable to landslide to occur
C. Landslides can involve only kinds of rock and soil
D. Landslides only happen in mountainous regions
24. What activity can be done to prevent a landslide?
A. Recycling
B. Reforestation
C. Campaigns
D. Agrotourism
25. “Geology refers to characteristics of the material itself.” (Paragraph 2)
The underlined word refers to ….
