SQUAT & UKC CALCULATION SOFTWARE

for Windows

The ZakosUKC has been designed and is ideally suited to assist ship’s officers for calculating
Squat and U.C.K.. onboard Tanker and Cargo Ship.
Using various Inputs from the user calculates Squat and UCK

The package is a menu driven and does not require any previous experience on the use of
computers.

Note :
Set the PC’s Regional Settings the Short Date Format as shown bellow.
Otherwise an error message will be displayed when you type a date.

Therefore type the date as follows


a: if the regional settings are set to US type the date : mm/dd/yyyy e.g. Oct/29/2013
type 11292013 (8) eight numbers

b: if the regional settings are set to English type the date : dd/mm/yyyy e.g. 29/Oct/2013
type 29112013 (8) eight numbers

Type the Time : HH:mm e,g, 09:30 as 0930

Use Up/Down button to increase / decrease form view scale
Drag Left/Right / Up/Down the Form in order to increase / decrease Form

STATING :
Each time you switch on your computer and when the WINDOWS are loaded .Follow the procedure described below in
order to execute the ZAKOS UKC program. From the Desktop find the icon shown bellow then,

1. Double click this icon

in the case NO icon displayed then follow the procedure described below

Click at the Start button where the Start Window Menu will be displayed.

Click the Programs where the following Window will appear

At the title Zakos UKC Calc move the mouse pointer until you see the title ( Zacos UKC Calc )
then press the ENTER key or click with mouse in order to start the program.

GENERAL RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS:
Before proceeding to the instructions necessary to each screen the following basic functions are considered important
and should be memorised. The Cursor key movements and Function keys:

Dn Arrow Moves One Line Down
Right Arrow Moves cursor to Right
Left Arrow Moves cursor to Left
PgUp Moves Screen Up
PgDn Moves Screen Down
Home Moves cursor to the Beginning of Line
End Moves cursor to the End of Line
Backspace Errases a character to the left of the cursor

CLICK :
Press and release the left mouse button. A click is used to select an item on the screen.

ENTRIES:
Input screens are designed so that the user is free to move the cursor to any position using the arrows and make an
entry.

Mistakes: Illegal entries are not accepted by your system rejection is followed by a characteristic beeper alarm.

SCREENS:
The user communicates with the system through a number of screens. According to the functions they perform screen
are divided in the following 3 categories:

A. Control Screen is:

Using the mouse the user may select the desired system function. Click the mouse to execute the selected function.

A. Input Screens are:


 Edit UKC Input Table for ( Port, Chart Depth, Drafts, Speed, etc. )
 Squat and UKC Report
 Overhead Clearance Report
 Barrass UKC Report
 Open/Confined/Heel Report
 Air Draft Calculation
 Calculator
All the input screens have the following characteristics:

- They have a standard format.


- Arrows may be used to select required position (full screen editing).
- Each entry is validated and accepted or rejected accordingly.
- Guiding messages always appear at the screen's Message Window.

ΜΑΙΝ ΜΕΝU SCREEN :
The Main Menu is made up of eleven (11) Button selections as shown in the following illustration:

Click to Close and Exit to Windows

To select a calculation move the mouse so the tip of the mouse pointer usually an arrow is on the name of a
Menu Calculation Button icon you want to select. Quickly press and release the left mouse button.

WINDOW MENU SELECTION:
A Window Menu will display a list of selections as shown in the following illustration:

want to select. Quickly press and release the left mouse button.

WARNING MESSAGES:
Those messages will appear in a window form displaying the message and will cover part of the screen and will be removed
by clicking the OK button. A such message is shown in the following illustration:

EXIT FROM THE PROGRAM:


From then ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the ( Exit icon) selection, and click the mouse the following message
will appear.

UCK TIDE PREDICTION ( MAIN MENU )

On the top of the screen appears the ( Main Menu ) with the five (3) horizontal selections and 10 icons as shown in the
following illustration:

EDIT SQUAT & UKC ( INPUT TABLE ) :
From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

The above Table will contains all the Informations required for the SQUAT & UKC Calculation.
For the first time the table will be empty.

click at the ( Back ) button to return to MAIN MENU

When the above Table displayed follow the below program execution.

The above info will be automatically inserted from Ship’s Data

SELECT TIDE TABLE :

DATE / TIME : Will be automatically inserted as soon Date has been typed
TYPE TIDE HEIGHT and CURRENT per Hour as shown above

Note : ( for CURRENT AGAINST SHIP use negative sign e.g. -0.5 )

SELECT SPEED INCREMENTS :

With the cursor click one of the two selections ( 1.0 knots OR 0.5 knots )

SELECT UNITS MODE :

With the cursor click one of the two selections ( Meters OR Feet )

Using Metric Units all UKC Report / Open Squat / Confined Squat / Heel will be shown in Meters

Using Feet Units all UKC Report / Open Squat / Confined Squat / Heel will be shown in Feet

Note :
Once all info has been completed all program forms calculation are automatically completed
You may return anytime to this UKCInfo form and change any info value and the program
automatically recalculate all program forms calculations.

When all above Info has been completed the UKC Calculation File will be saved
e.g. UKC Voyage- ( Voyage No. ) . Ship’s ID No. as shown above

Remarks :
Pay attention that the program assigns automatically the Extension of the File ( .u09 ) u09 is Ship’s ID No.
Therefore DO NOT try to change this File Extension otherwise you will NOT be able to Load this File.

SQUAT & UKC REPORT TABLE :
From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

If UKC Cell Value is LESS than will be shown in RED COLOR

If UKC Cell Value is LESS than will be shown in YELLOW COLOR

If UKC Cell Value is EQUAL than will be shown in GREEN COLOR

If UKC Cell Value is GREATER than will be shown in WHITE COLOR

Click to Print Report Click to Save Current UKC Report Click to Return to UKC Main Menu

Note : if you wish to view or print calc values in Feet then SELECT UNITS MODE as shown in page 13
Same apply to all UKC reports

In the above Table uses a Range of Speed and Chart Depth to calculate the Ship’s Squat and UKC.

DISPLAY DETAILED UKC CALCULATION

Select Cell then


Right click

In order to display a window for ( Detailed UKC Calculation ) for a particular cell do as follows :
e.g. for Ship’s Speed = 12.0 and for a Tide Height = 3.20m and a Current = -0.5 knots.
Select that cell in our example = 3.16 then right click and the following Window will be displayed.

Where a full detailed calculation is displayed as you may see the above table.

OVERHEAD CLEARANCE REPORT TABLE :
From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

Click to Print Report Click to Return to UKC Main Menu

In the above Table uses only Speed and Chart Depth to calculate the Ship’s Squat and UKC and
Clearance Height of passing a Bridge or an Obstruction.

From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

Type Drafts FWD & AFT and Height of Obstruction from Water Line
e.g. 15.00 / 16.25 / 55.00 and the results are shown at above Table

From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

Click to send the UKC Excel Reports to Desktop

Click to Calc all UKC Reports then click the Save button

Click to Save all UKC Reports as an Excel Spreadsheet

Note : First click the Calc button then the Save button otherwise the Save button will be locked

EXPORT CALC FILE :

From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse and click [ File ] and the following Window will appear

Click the Export Calc File and the following Window will appear :

Click to enter Calc File Table

Click to enter Excel File Table

Select Export File ( Calc File ) or ( Excel File ) clicking appropriate icon then
Select file by hit ( ENTER ) or ( Double click with the mouse where the following Window will appear :

Click [ OK ] button to Export or click [ NO ] to cancel

DELETE FILE :

From the ( Main Menu ) point the mouse and click [ File ] and the following Window will appear

Click the Delete and the following Window will appear :

Click to enter Calc File Table

Click to enter Excel File Table

Click [ Close ] button to cancel and return to Main screen

Select Delete File ( Calc File ) or ( Excel File ) clicking appropriate icon then
Select file :

Click [ Delete ] button where the following Window will appear :

Click [ Yes ] button to Delete file

SAVE CALCULATION FILE :
The system automaticaly saves the current calculation after typying any new or changing data.
This will occur when we create a new calculation and when the procedure Infos is completed and exit
the following Window Screen will appear:

type the file name you wish to save then ( Click the button Save )

Remarks :
DO NOT Type the following characters when typying the File Name ( . / \ ) or space
If for any reason a File with the same name exists e.g. ( 63L ) type ( 63L-1A )
The best is to use Tide Port Name e.g. UKC Voyage-63L-1.

Pay attention that the program assigns automatically the Extension of the File ( .u09 ). U09 is the Ship’s ID No.
Therefore DO NOT Change this File Extension otherwise you will NOT be able to Load this File.

If for any reason you wish to abort the operation then, just click the Cancel button.

SAVING A FILE WITH DIFFERENT NAME :

Clicking at the File the following Window Screen will appear:

Click the Save As then follow the procedure described in page 24

LOADING a STORED FILE

Click at the File then when the icon shown below appears.

Clicking at this icon the following Window Screen will appear:

Move the mouse pointer at File Name row you wish to Load the stored file then click the Open button.

If for any reason you wish to abort the operation then, just click the Cancel button.

CALCULATOR :
From the ( Tool Bar ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window Screen will appear:

Calculator Procedure :
Click each button number you wish e.g. 12029.182 m3
Click button numbers 1, 2, 0, 2, 9, ., 1, 8, 2 then click the button m3/Bbls and
the result will be displayed.

The procedure described above will be carried out so many times as you wish.

ABOUT :
From the ( Tool Bar ) point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon ( About ) with the mouse the following Window Screen will appear:

SELECT YOUR SHIP from the COMPANY’S FLEET LIST :

When you start the program for the first time you will observe on the ( Toolbar ) a different ship name
than your ship name. Therefore in order to select the correct ship name from the Company’s Fleet List.
Do the following :
From the ( File Menu ) see the ( Ship Files ) selection then point the mouse on the icon bellow

Click this icon with the mouse and the following Window will appear.

The above Table will contains all the Fleet Vessel’s. For the first time the table will display the
first vessel on the list. e.g. the M/T OLYMPIC LOYALTY II.
To select your vessel Double click or [ Hit ENTER Key ] Ship Name from the list then,
click at the ( Close ) button to return to UKC MAIN MENU

e.g. the ship OLYMPIC HOPE selected for our example.


So, from now on when you start the program the selected ship will displayed.

UNLOCK EXCEL :

In order to unlock the calculated ( Excel ) spreadsheet do as follows :


1. Click at Tools
2. Click at Protection
3. Click at Unprotect Sheet ..
