AUROVILLE:
üAuroville (City of Dawn) is an experimental
township in Viluppuram district in the state
of Tamil Nadu, India near Pondicherry in
South India, whose stated purpose is to
realize human unity in diversity.
üIt is a popular tourist destination, and has
been described as a "New Age metropolis.
The township starkly stands out from the
surrounding traditional Indian villages and
farms.
 AUROVILLE
The city has been built to house a population of up to 50,000 people from
around the world.

The main motto of all the people living in the Auroville city, near Pondicherry, is
to convert life into 'Supramental Consciousness'.

It is also known by the name of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and is devoted towards
'unity of mankind'.

Auroville intends to become such a city that will serve as a model to the cities
of the future, cities where people will strive towards a harmonious future.

Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries
are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics
and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity."
The township is based on the
teaching of the spiritual guru of
India-Sri Aurobindo and the ideas
of sustainable living . The image

Matrimandir is a unique structure called “Soul of the city” which is

a lotus like building with the petals painted in pink and made of
cement and the centre lobe studded with gold plates.
It is located at the centre of Auroville, an experimental
international community of 50 sq km area, 14km away from
Pondicherry, just over the border in Tamil Nadu.

with a neatly drawn pathway which
captures one’s attention and makes a
person visualize the power of peace.
