The Community Tool Box aims to promote community health and development by
connecting people, ideas and resources. The web site is created and maintained by the
University of Kansas Work Group on Health Promotion and Community Development in
Lawrence, KS, and AHEC/Community Partners in Amherst, Massachusetts. Currently,
the core of the Tool Box is the "how-to tools." These how-to sections use simple, friendly
language to explain how to do the different tasks necessary for community health and
development. For instance, there are sections on leadership, strategic planning,
community assessment, advocacy, grant writing, and evaluation to give just a few
examples. Each section includes a description of the task, advantages of doing it, step-by-
step guidelines, examples, checklists of points to review, and training materials.
This lively, interactive educational tool enables participants to walk through the food
system and brainstorm about creative community solutions. It includes materials and
complete instructions for a one to two hour session.
