Good Morning

From Me
Defination:
 Children are the gift of god , but some couple are deprived of
this gift, so scientist & doctor have invented a specific technique
which called Test Tube Baby.
 Which also known as I.V.F & Embryo Transfer.
 I.V.F is a process from there eggs cells are fertilized by sperm
outside the woman’s womb ,after the embryo transfer in to
woman’s uterus.
 The procedure has an average success rate is only 15%.s
Procedure:

I. Before Starting VI. Egg Collection

II. Counseling VII. Sperm Collection
III. Ovarian Stimulation VIII. After Egg Collection
IV. Ultrasound Examination IX. Embryo Transfer
V. HCG injection. X. Pregnancy Test.
Before Starting:

screening test will be checked

Wife:
 complete hemogram, blood sugar, urea
 Hepatitis B Oral Contraceptive pill from the

 HIV 3rd/4th/5th day of period.

Husband:
 Sperm test of last 6 month
 Hepatitis B
 HIV
Counseling:
 Couples with infertility problems have faced many
frustration and under stress .
 Consent must be signed before starting treatment.
Ovarian Stimulation:
Drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce
several eggs instead of the usual one to increase the
chance of pregnancy.
 Long Protocol:
start injection on the 21st day of previous cycle.
 Short/Antagonist Protocol:
injection given started from 2nd of period.
 Drugs Treatment:
start from 2nd of the cycle to 9-12 days daily till the
eggs become matureas determined by ultrasound exa.
Ultrasound Examination:
 The examination is done after 4 days of drug to
measure the response of the ovaries.

 This shows the number & size of the follicles

growing in the ovaries, which show when they will be
mature?

 Sometimes with poor chances if show then doctor

suggest cancelling the cycle.
HCG Injection
 HCG is given during the final maturing of the eggs
ready for collection.
 Eggs collection is planned 34-36 hours after HCG
injection
 The embryologist will inform about the time for
sperm collection by the husband.
Egg Collection:
 Patient admitted early in the morning.
 She should have nothing to eat or drink from
midnight the night before the procedure.
 The eggs are collected through needle ,which is
passed through the vagina into ovary, and passed
immediately to the laboratory.
 The procedure takes about 15 -30 minutes & patients
will able to go home about 2-3 hours.
Sperm Collection:

 A fresh sperm sample is collected on the day of egg

collection, just before or after egg collection.

 Sexual activity may continue during the treatment

cycle otherwise more than 4 or 5 days without
ejaculation may reduce sperm quality.
Embryo Transfer
 Embryo transfer is done two or three days after egg
collection.
 It is simple procedure from there woman’s legs are
rested in stripes and embryo passed through the cervix
into the uterus through fine soft plastic tube. It takes
only few minutes.
 There is no need to rest afterwards; you may go
home and back to work and all normal activity but
heavy work like lifting weights, climbing, should be
avoided.
Pregnancy Test:
 You will be given a date for a pregnancy test about
14 or 15 days after embryo transfer.

 It is important that you get the test done even if you

have a period. As there a small chance of pregnancy
even then.

 If the test is negative than the further treatment

will depend on whether you have frozen embryos
stored or not.
First Successful
“TesT Tube baby”

“Louise Joy
Brown”
 On July 25, 1978. Louise joy brown ,the world’s first
successful “test tube baby” was born in Great Britain.

 Dr.Patrick Steptoe & Dr.Edward had successfully

found a way to fertilize an egg outside a woman body.

 The fertilization was done under 37

C, 100%moisture,5% co2 & 95% o2.

 At 11:47 p.m , on July 25,1978. a five pound 12 ounce

baby girl was born ,named Louise joy brown.
India’s First
“ Test Tube Baby”

Kanupriya
Agarwal(Durga)
 Kanupriya (Durga) born October 3,1978.

 The international scientist community is now

accepting “Dr.Subhas Mukhopadhyay ‘s claim and
recognizing India for producing the world’s second
test tube baby.

 She born just 67 days after Marie Louise Brown was

born.
Poor chances of success with IVF

 Older woman ,whose ovaries are falling , however

is no upper age limit at with done.

 Men whose sperm count are very low.

 Woman with a damaged uterus

General Information:
 In Bhopal(India),on October 2009,three(3)
pregnant women give birth double baby with using of
“test tube baby” procedure.
 Today in India, minimum 2000 hospital contain the
process of test tube baby.
 The procedure has an average success rate of only
15%.
 The total cost having roughly around one lac ten
thousand nearest.
 Does not affect woman’s health.
