• Sharp Corporation shall grant you a non-exclusive software license to use this
product “CE-LK4” upon the terms as written in the End-User License Agreement
that will be shown before the installation of this product.
• Your installation of this product will be deemed acceptance of the terms and condi-
tions of the Agreement.
• Sharp does not accept liability for damage caused by simple negligence, unless
damage is involved for which we would be responsible irrespective of negligent be-

GETTING STARTED
What is PC LINK?
• Used to create and edit EL-9900G SII programs on a PC.
• Receives and saves programs and various
data from EL-9900G SII.
• Makes a backup of all the contents of memory
of the EL-9900G SII.
• Sends programs and various data to the EL-9900G SII.
• Transfers image data from the EL-9900G SII.
• Converts programs and various data files into a text file.
Converts program text files into a program file.
• Prints out programs and various data files.
This manual is intended for users who already
understand how to use the EL-9900G SII and how to operate a PC.
Also refer to the EL-9900G SII and PC manuals when using this manual.
System Requirements
To use PC LINK, the following hardware and software are required:

NOTES:
• This software is not guaranteed to operate on all PCs with recommended hardware/software
environment.
• Activating power saving modes (such as suspend, resume, or sleep function) on some PCs
may result in the USB port malfunctioning. If this occurs, disable the power saving mode.
• The software may not operate properly with a commercially available USB card installed in a
PCI slot.
• If the USB port on your PC or the USB hub connected to the device does not operate properly,
follow the steps below:
- If your PC comes equipped with several USB ports, try using a different USB socket.
- If other USB devices are connected to your PC, disconnect them from your PC to avoid
possible conflicts.
• Since the USB hub may introduce problems, try bypassing the USB hub by connecting the
unit directly to your PC.
• Do not remove and connect the USB cable from/to the PC in a short period of time.
Setting Up PC-LINK
1 Installing the PC-LINK Software
1. Turn on your PC and log in as the Administrator.
2. Exit all applications before installation.
3. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
4. The CD-ROM will automatically start. If the CD-ROM does not start, open the
drive of the CD-ROM in your EXPLORER and double-click the setup.exe file.
5. When the Setup screen appears, follow the onscreen instructions for setup.
After completing the setup, the SHARP PC-LINK for EL-9900G SII folder is
added in the Programs folder of the Start menu.
NOTE: During the installation of the software under Windows 7/Vista automatically generated
Windows warning messages. Please proceed with the installation of the Sharp Software
continued anyway.
The Windows warning messages refer to the fact that Windows the software manufac-
turer cannot identify clearly (Windows messages to the UAC and the Windows security).
While the software is installed on Windows XP, an automated Windows warning mes-
sage that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing. Please proceed with the
installation of the Sharp Software continued anyway.

Starting and Exiting the PC-LINK
Procedures for starting and exiting PC-LINK using a PC are as follows:
1 Starting PC-LINK
• Choose Start > Programs > SHARP PC-LINK for EL-9900G SII > SHARP CE-LK4.
2 Exiting PC-LINK
Do one of the following:
• Choose File > Exit.
• Click on the close box at the upper-right corner of the screen.

NOTE: It is recommended to save files on the PC in a new arbitrary folder or the folder “My
Documents” (XP) or “Documents” (Vista/7).

Creating and Saving a New Program
1 Creating a New Program
1. Select New from the File menu.
The“untitlex.g4p” screen is displayed.
2. Enter a program name in Title:
3. Enter a program.
(For details on entering a program, refer to “Using
Edit Functions” on page 12.)

Sending, Receiving, and Backup
Programs and Various Data
(1) Programs and various data can be received from the EL-9900G SII in order to
save them in a file. The contents saved in the file can also be sent to the EL-
9900G SII.
(2) Back up all data of the EL-9900G SII to the file, and restore the backup data to
the EL-9900G SII.
(1) Receiving Programs and Various Data from the EL-9900G SII to
be Saved in a File
1. Turn on the EL-9900G SII.
2. Select Receive... from the Link menu.
The Receive Files screen is displayed.
3. Specify the kind of drive, folder, and file, then
select the file to be received from the file list,
and click on the Select button.
The selected file is displayed on the File
Selected column.
4. Click on the OK button.
The Receiving screen is displayed on the PC
screen to start receiving.
5. After the completion of receiving, the initial
screen returns.
* If a file stored with a file name that consists of non-alphanumeric characters (Solver
equation, Program, Slide show) is received by a PC, the file name may change.
* If multiple Solver equation and Program files are saved on the EL-9900G SII with the
same file name, only the initial saved file can be received.
To receive all the files, save each file on the EL-9900G SII with a different file name.

(2) Sending a File to the EL-9900G SII
NOTE: Group files, Text files, and Bitmap files cannot be sent to the EL-9900G SII.
3 Making a Backup
All data of the EL-9900G SII can be backed up to the disk of the PC, and the backed
up data can be restored to the EL-9900G SII.
Perform the same procedure of “(2) Sending a file to the EL-9900G SII” on this page
to send the back-up file (backup.g4b) to the EL-9900G SII.

Opening a Saved File
First, display (open) the contents of a file on the PC, in order to print and edit the con-
tents of the saved file.
2 Printing a File
NOTE: The contents of Backup files, Group files, GDB files, Graph equation files, and
Solver equation files cannot be printed.

Using Edit Functions
NOTE: The files that can be edited with the Edit functions are: List files, List DB files,
Matrix files, Program files, Table setup files, Window setup files, Data variable
files and Zoom files.
The Edit functions are used for creating EL-9900G SII programs and editing the con-
tents that have already been saved as files.

(2) Entering from the Func Table
The Func Table is used to select necessary items from the list containing items such
as functions, and enter them.
1. Select the item from the major category of the Func Table menu.
Selecting the Key Pad displays the subcategory.
Selecting other than the Key Pad displays the subcategory and minor category,
respectively.
2. Perform either of the following
operations, and then enter an item
in the cursor position on the Edit
screen.
When only the subcategory is dis-
played, move the cursor to the item
that you want to enter, for double-
click.
When the subcategory and minor
category are displayed, select the
item in the left row (the subcategory)
to display the right row (the minor category), and then move the cursor to the item
in the right row that you want to enter, for double-click.
2 Editing
(1) Cutting a string
1. Select the string to be cut.
2. Select Cut from the Edit menu.
The selected string is cut on the Edit screen and moved to the clipboard.

(4) Pasting the contents of a clipboard to the Edit Screen
The contents moved to the clipboard by “Cutting a string” and “Copying a string” can
be pasted at the cursor position on the Edit screen.
* Selecting the Paste from the Edit menu pastes the contents of the clipboard at the
cursor position on the Edit screen.
* To return to the state immediately before making an operation (such as after making
an input error), select Undo from the Edit menu.

Saving and Printing the Contents
of the Edit Screen
1 Overwriting
NOTE: Program files can be overwritten.
• After completing the modifications, select the Save from the File menu. The file is
saved in the same file.
2 Save As
NOTES:
• List files, List DB files, Matrix files, Table setup files, Window setup files, Data variable
files, and Zoom files which are edited with the Edit functions, can be saved only as text
files.
When a file is saved as a text file, letters are included in @s for special symbols.
(For details on special symbols, see the “Table for Converting Special Symbols into TXT
Letters” on page 20.)
• Alphanumeric characters can be used for file names. If a program file stored with a file
name that consists of non-alphanumeric characters is sent to the EL-9900G SII, the file
name may change.
1. After completing editing, select Save As... from the File menu.
The Save As screen is displayed.
2. Specify the drive and folder, and then enter the file name and suitable extension.
3. Click on the OK button.
The file is saved with the contents specified in step 2.
3 Printing
Perform the same procedure as in step 2 or from “2 Printing a File” on page 11, and
then print the contents displayed on the screen.

Screen Capture
The screen function transfers the display of EL-9900G SII to the PC as an image file.
This function is very helpful to prepare teaching materials.
(1) Saving
1. Transfer the image data.
2. Select Save As... from the File menu.
The Save As screen is displayed.
3. Specify the drive and folder, and then enter the file name and “bmp” extension.
4. Click on the OK button.
(2) Printing
1. Open or transfer the image data.
2. If necessary, specify the Print image percentage for printing.
3. Select Print... from the File menu.
The Print Setting screen is displayed. If necessary, specify items such as the
range and the number of copies.
4. Click on the OK button. The contents displayed on the screen are printed.

The Opening Tool
The Opening Tool is a program for an opening image when you turn on the EL-9900G
SII. The opening image can be used to personalize the EL-9900G SII, for example,
by a user name. When you turn on the calculator, an opening image will appear for 5
seconds. The opening image can be overwritten only by transferring another image to
the calculator again.
For deletion of the opening image on the calculator, transfer a bitmap file of all white
color.
1. Make sure that a PC and the EL-9900G SII are connected, as described in “1 Set-
ting a Communication Port” on page 9.
2. Turn on the EL-9900G SII.
3. Select Opening Tool from the Tools menu. The program will open in a separate
window.
4. Click Open, and then select the image.
NOTE: This tool can only handle black & white
images as bitmap files with a pixel size to
132 x 64 pixels. Bitmap files can be created,
for example, with the MS Paint program (in
Accessories of Programs on your PC).

3. Select Repro from the Tools menu. The program will open in a separate window.
4. Click Browse and select the update file (binary file)
5. Click Send and then Click OK. The update file is transferred to the EL-9900G SII.
6. Update is complete.
NOTE: If an error message appears when sending the update file, confirm that the EL-
9900G SII and your PC are connected.
Group/Ungroup
1 Group (Combine individual files into a group file)
It is possible to create a group file either by combining unrelated individual files or by
combining only related files.
NOTE: Grouped files need to be ungrouped in order to transfer them to the EL-9900G
SII.
1. Select the Group Files... from the Tools menu. The file selection screen to
choose which files to combine into a group file is displayed.
2. Specify drive, directory and the file type. Select the file to group from the file list
and then click the Select button. The selected file is displayed in the File Selected
column.
Continue this file selection process for each file to group.
3. After selecting all the files for file grouping, click the OK button.
The Save As screen is displayed.
4. Perform the same procedure as in step 2 or from “2 Save As” on page 15, and
save as a group file.

Converting a File
1 Converting a Program and Various Data Files into a Text
File
NOTE: The following files can be converted to text files: List files, List DB files, Matrix
files, Program files, Table setup files, Window setup files, Data variable files, and
Zoom files.
For conversion to a text file, special symbols are included in @s.
(For details on special symbols, see the “Table for Converting Special Symbols
into TXT Letters” on page 20.)
1. Open or display the contents of the file to be converted to a text file on the screen.
2. Perform the same procedure as in step 1 or from “2 Save As” on page 15; how-
ever, enter “txt” as the extension.
1. Open or display the contents of the program text file to be converted into a
program file.
2. Perform the same procedure as in step 1 or from “2 Save As” on page 15; how-
ever, as the extension, enter “g4p” for the EL-9900G SII.

APPENDIX
Table for Converting Special Symbols
into TXT Letters
Upon conversion to TXT, the letter is included in @s. (@ ... @)

How to Proceed in the Event of
Abnormal Conditions
If this product is exposed to a powerful external electric field or shock during use, an
abnormal condition may seldom occur in which all of the keys, including the ON key
on the calculator connected, do not function. In the event of such a situation operate
the machine from the start again, or reset the calculator by the following procedure
before reoperation. Refer to the EL-9900G SII Operation manual.
How to reset
1. Pull down the notch to open the battery cover located on the back of the calcula-
tor.
2. Place the battery cover back until the notch is snapped on.
3. Press ON .
The verification window will appear on the screen.
• To keep the memory contents:
Press ON . The display will return to the initial
display.
• To clear all memory contents:
Press CL while the above is being displayed.
All memory contents will be cleared and the
display will become as follows.

HINWEIS:
• Trotz Verwendung der empfohlenen Hardware kann es zu Funktionsstörungen dieser
Software kommen.
• Das Aktivieren von Energiesparmodi (wie Unterbrechen, Wiederaufnehmen, oder Stand-by-
Funktion) auf einigen PCs kann zu Fehlfunktionen am USB-Anschluss führen. Sollte dies der
Fall sein, deaktivieren Sie den Energiesparmodus.
• Die Software funktioniert möglicherweise nicht ordnungsgemäß mit einer handelsüblichen, in
einem PCI-Steckplatz eingesetzten USB-Karte.
• Wenn der USB-Anschluss Ihres PCs oder USB-Hub, an dem das Gerät angeschlossen ist,
nicht ordnungsgemäß funktioniert, führen Sie die folgenden Schritte aus:
- Wenn Ihr PC mit mehreren USB-Anschlüssen ausgestattet ist, versuchen Sie es mit einem
anderen USB-Anschluss.
- Wenn andere USB-Geräte an Ihren PC angeschlossen sind, trennen Sie diese von Ihrem
PC ab, um mögliche Konflikte zu vermeiden.
• Da der USB-Hub Probleme verursachen kann, versuchen Sie den USB-Hub zu umgehen,
indem Sie das Gerät direkt an Ihrem PC anschließen.
• Das USB-Kabel darf nicht vom PC abgetrennt und sofort wieder angeschlossen werden.

Starten und Beenden des PC-LINK
Um das PC-LINK auf Ihrem Windows-System zu starten oder zu beenden, gehen Sie folgendermaßen vor:
1 PC-LINK starten
• Wählen Sie Start > Programme > SHARP PC-LINK for EL-9900G SII > SHARP CE-LK4.
2 PC-LINK beenden
Führen Sie eine der beiden Möglichkeiten aus:
• Wählen Sie File > Exit, oder
• Klicken Sie auf das Schließen-Fenster oben rechts im Bildschirm des CE-LK4.

1. Im File-Menu auf New klicken.
Das Fenster “untitlex.g4p” erscheint.

Übertragen, Empfangen und Sichern
von Programmen und Daten
(1) Es können Programme und Daten vom EL-9900G SII empfangen werden, um sie
in einer Datei zu speichern. Der in der Datei gespeicherte Inhalt kann wiederum
zum EL-9900G SII zurück übertragen werden.
(2) Sämtliche Daten des EL-9900G SII können in einer Datei gesichert werden. Die in
der Sicherungsdatei gespeicherten Daten können wiederhergestellt und zum EL-
9900G SII übertragen werden.
(1) Empfangen von Programmen und Daten vom EL-9900G SII und
Speichern in einer Datei
1. Den EL-9900G SII einschalten.
2. Im Link-Menü Receive... wählen.
Das Fenster “Receive Files” erscheint.
3. Laufwerk, Ordner und Datei angeben. Dann
in der Dateiliste die zu empfangende Datei
wählen und auf Select klicken.
Die gewählte Datei erscheint in der Spalte
“File Selected”.
4. Auf OK klicken.
Das Fenster “Receiving” erscheint auf dem
PC-Bildschirm und der Empfang beginnt.
5. Am Ende des Empfangs wird auf das
Ausgangsfenster zurückgeschaltet.
* Wird eine Datei mit einem nicht alphanumerische Zeichen enthaltenden Dateinamen
(SOLVER-Gleichung, Programm, Diashow) vom PC empfangen, kann sich der
Dateiname ändern.
* Wenn mehr als eine SOLVER-Gleichung oder Programmdatei unter demselben Namen im
EL-9900G SII gespeichert sind, kann nur die zuerst gespeicherte Datei empfangen werden.
Um alle Dateien empfangen zu können, muss jede unter einem eindeutigen Namen im
EL-9900G SII gespeichert werden.

(2) Übertragen einer Datei zum EL-9900G SII
HINWEIS: Gruppen-, Text- und Bitmap-Dateien können nicht zum EL-9900G SII übertra-
gen werden.
Wie im Abschnitt (2) “Übertragen einer Datei zum EL-9900G SII” auf dieser Seite
beschrieben vorgehen, um die Sicherungsdatei (backup.g4b) zum EL-9900G SII zu
senden.

Öffnen einer gespeicherten Datei
Um den Inhalt einer gespeicherten Datei zu drucken oder zu editieren, muss dieser
zunächst auf dem PC-Bildschirm dargestellt (geöffnet) werden.

Gebrauch der Editierfunktionen
HINWEIS: Folgende Dateien können mit den Editierfunktionen bearbeitet werden: Listen,
Listendaten, Matrizen, Programme, Tabellen, Fenstereinstellungen, Datenvari-
ablen und Zoom-Einstellungen.
Die Editierfunktionen dienen zum Erstellen neuer Programme für den EL-9900G SII
sowie zum Editieren von bereits als Dateien gespeicherten Programmen.

(2) Eingabe über die Funktionstabelle
Die Funktionstabelle besteht aus einer Liste von Elementen, z.B. Funktionen, die
durch Anklicken gewählt werden können.
1. In der Hauptkategorie des Func Table-Menüs ein Element wählen.
Bei Wahl von “Key Pad” wird die Unterkategorie dargestellt.
Bei Wahl aller anderen Elemente erscheint die Unter- bzw. Nebenkategorie.
2. Zum Eingeben eines Elements an
der Cursorposition stehen zwei
Verfahren zur Verfügung.
Wenn nur eine Unterkategorie
vorhanden ist, den Cursor auf das
gewünschte Element bewegen und
mit Doppelklick anwählen.
Wenn Unter- und Nebenkategorie
vorhanden sind, das Element in der
linken Spalte (Unterkategorie)
anwählen, um das Auswahl-Menü
in der rechten Spalte (Nebenkategorie) darzustellen. Dann den Cursor auf das
gewünschte Element in der rechten Spalte bewegen und mit Doppelklick an-
wählen.
2 Editieren
(1) Ausschneiden einer Zeichenfolge
1. Die auszuschneidende Zeichenfolge markieren.
2. Im Edit-Menü Cut wählen.
Die markierte Zeichenfolge wird ausgeschnitten und in die Zwischenablage ver-
schoben, wobei die Ursprungszeichenfolge im Editier-Fenster gelöscht wird.
* Mit der Option Paste im Edit-Menü kann der Inhalt der Zwischenablage an der Cursor-
position in das Editier-Fenster eingefügt werden.
* Mit der Option Undo im Edit-Menü kann die unmittelbar vorausgegangene Operation
rückgängig gemacht werden (z.B. bei einem Eingabefehler).

Displayanzeige kopieren
Mit der Funktion Screen Capture wird die Displayanzeige des EL-9900G SII auf den
PC als Bilddatei übertragen. Diese Funktion ist z. B. sehr hilfreich bei der Erstellung
von Unterrichtsvorlagen.
(1) Speichern
1. Die Displayanzeige übertragen.
2. Im File-Menü Save as... wählen.
Das Fenster “Save As” erscheint.
3. Laufwerk und Ordner angeben, dann den Dateinamen und die Erweiterung “bmp”
eingeben.
4. Auf OK klicken.
(2) Drucken
1. Die Bilddatei der Displayanzeige öffnen oder übertragen.
2. Erforderlichenfalls die Abbildungsrate (%) für das Drucken einstellen.
3. Im File-Menü Print... wählen. In den “Drucker-Einstellungen” die nötigen Einstel-
lungen vornehmen.
4. Auf OK klicken. Die Bilddatei der Displayanzeige wird gedruckt.

Benutzeranzeige-Tool
Das Benutzeranzeige-Tool ist ein Programm, um ein Startbild beim Einschalten des
EL-9900G SII auf dem Display anzuzeigen. Der GTR kann dadurch personalisiert
werden, z. B. mit einem Benutzernamen. Beim Starten des Rechners erscheint dann
für 5 Sekunden dieses Startbild. Diese Anzeige kann durch Drücken einer beliebigen
Taste beendet werden. Das Startbild kann nur durch eine erneute Übertragung eines
Bildes mit dieser Software überschrieben werden.
Um das Startbild zu löschen, übertragen Sie eine weiße monochrome BMP-Datei.
1. EL-9900G SII mit dem PC verbinden, wie bei “1 Festlegen des Datenanschlusses”
auf Seite 30 beschrieben.
2. EL-9900G SII einschalten.
3. In der PC-Link-Software im Tools-Menü das Programm “Opening Tool” wählen.
Das Programm wird in einem eigenen Fenster geöffnet.
4. Ein Bild durch Öffnen von Open in das Open-
ing Tool laden.
HINWEIS: Dieses Tool kann nur Schwarz-Weiß-Bilder
als Bitmap-Dateien mit einer Pixelgröße von
bis zu 132 x 64 Punkten verarbeiten. Bitmap-
Dateien können Sie z.B. mit dem Programm
MS Paint erstellen (im Ordner Programme/
Zubehör auf Ihrem PC).
5. Mit Send die Übertragung des Bitmap-Bildes
starten. Bei erfolgreicher Übertragung wird
eine Bestätigungsmeldung angezeigt.
6. Das “Opening Tool” schließen.
Gruppieren/Entgruppieren
1 Gruppieren (Sammeln einzelner Dateien in einer
Gruppendatei)
Eine Gruppendatei kann erstellt werden, indem einzelne unverwandte oder aus-
schließlich verwandte Dateien zu einer Datei zusammengefasst werden.
HINWEIS: Gruppierte Dateien müssen erst aufgelöst werden, um sie zum EL-9900G SII
zu übertragen.

Konvertieren einer Datei
1 Konvertieren von Programmen und Dateien in Text-
dateien
HINWEIS: Folgende Dateien können in Textdateien konvertiert werden: Listen, Listenda-
ten, Matrizen, Programme, Tabellen, Fenstereinstellungen, Datenvariablen und
Zoomeinstellungen.
1. Die in eine Textdatei zu konvertierende Datei öffnen oder den Inhalt auf dem
Bildschirm darstellen.
2. Wie oben bei Schritt 1 vorgehen oder wie im Abschnitt “2 Speichern unter einem
anderen Dateinamen” auf Seite 36; dann die Dateierweiterung “txt” auswählen.

Vorgehensweise bei einer Störung
Wenn das PC-Link einem starken elektrischen Feld oder starken Erschütterungen
ausgesetzt wird, kann in seltenen Fällen eine Störung auftreten, bei der keine der
Tasten funktioniert, einschließlich der ON -Taste des angeschlossenen EL-9900G
SII. Dieser Zustand kann durch Neustarten des Computers oder Rückstellen des
GTRs beseitigt werden. Siehe die Bedienungsanleitung des EL-9900G SII.
