I. Objectives

1. To introduce concepts of charging and discharging of capacitors.

2. To determine charging and discharging voltage of a capacitor and its (RC) time
constant.
3. To plot the voltage against time during charging and discharging.

IV. Question and Answer
1. Compare the time it takes to fully charge the capacitor in trial 1 and trial 2.

Ans: In Trial 1 the charge is to fast to get rise and it get fast to discharge too. While the
Trial 2 is to slow to get up of the charge and slowly get down when discharging.

2. The voltage across the capacitor, Ve, at any Instant time during the charging period in
give as:

Ans:
Vs: 1.2V
R: 0.25R
C: 1.27
t: 47sec
What is the voltage across the capacitor in trial 1 after 10 seconds? From the graph,
approximate
Ve after 10 seconds in trial 1 and compare it to the computed value.
Ans: 1.2V
3. Given the Circuit below.

The discharging voltage across the capacitor Vs, at any instant time during, the
discharging period in given as:

Ans:
Vs: 1V
R: 2.2
C: 2.1
t: 22 sec
What is the voltage across the capacitor after 5 seconds of discharging it?
Ans: 25 sec
