1. Range of application
This standard
- is valid for twin-shaft Aerzen positive displacement machines
- shows the result from experience for decades in installation and operation of Aerzen products.
In individual cases a structural strength analysis can be issued optional at extra costs.
3.1 Standard values for effective vibration velocities of blower- and screw compressor-stages
Table 1 of VDI 3836 quotes recommended limit values for casing vibrations as effective values of the
vibration velocity. Four groups of machines are distinguished:
Group 1: Twin screw compressors with friction bearings and timing gears and with P ≥ 55 kW
( VR )
Group 2: Twin screw compressors with roller bearings or roller- and friction bearings and
timing gears and with P ≥ 37 kW
( VM, VML )
Group 3: Twin screw compressors without timing gears and with P ≥ 55 kW
( VMX, VMY )
Group 4: Roots blowers with roller bearings and with P ≥ 22 kW
( all Aerzener types of positive displacement blowers )
VDI 3836 has to be applied to all Aerzen positive displacement machines that can be classified into one of
the above groups. For all other machines chapters 3.1 to 3.3 of this standard are valid.
Remark:
In order to isolate the ambiance from free forces, our base frames are generally installed on flexible mounts.
Due to the insulation effect the forces transmitted to the ambiance are low. However, excited by free forces
created from the stages and due to the soft installation, the positive displacement machines and their
components execute forced vibrations. In particular the accessories (e.g. base frame, supports, pipings,
silencer, ...) may locally reach vibration velocities far above the standard values.
