ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

E-OUTLINED HISTORY MAPPING: A COMPUTER-BASED INSTRUCTION TO IMPROVE

LEARNER’S WRITTEN WORKS IN ARALING PANLIPUNAN

PROPONENT:SHERYLLANE O. DUARTE

CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Araling Palipunan subject studied historical facts, people, place, events, and

other social issues ,past and present. As a subject , most of the time, learners decribed
it as the most boredom subject at all. Maybe because of many factors experienced by
the students at school. This made me to decide a computer based system as my
teaching strategy

Teaching Grade 8 Araling Panlipunan is the low written works outcome of my

learners while getting the MPS( Mean percentage Score) which in my division, we are
required to target the 80% of the mean percentage in everyday evaluation from our
lesson. I have to try a new strategy which I never applied before with the used of
computer. In the grading system of the Department of Education the learner must
acquired the 30% of the assessment in order to get passing grades or high grades in
Araling panlipunan.

In our school we do have two computer laboratories ,with 50 computers in each

room. So, it can cater my grade 8 classess that studies world history.

My intervention called it as “E- outline History Mapping model which defects all
the history and important events that based on the compentencies given by the
Department of Education. It illustrates the historical of events, since I will be dealing
the History of the world through mapping in a Computer Based Instruction.Every
outline there will be a quiz that needs to be answer by the learners serve as the
evaluation of each lesson on the day.

In our school ,we do have two computer laboratories ,with 50 computers in each
room. This can cater my Grade 8 Classess.

Computer-based Instruction is the use of a computer to collect, stores and

process digital data. It would be more interesting and motivating to learners since they
more inclined with the computer gadgets nowadays. Maps are a universal medium for
comminucation, easily understood and appreciated by most people, regardless
ofvlanguage or culture. Incorporated in a map is the understanding that it is a snapshot
of an idea, a single picture, a selection of concepts from constantly changing database
of geiographic information (Merriam 1996)
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Computer-based instruction is any curricula in which students interact with a

computer as a key element of the learning process. Although the term is used to
describe a number of different teaching methodologies and curricula, an instructor is
almost always present to organize and monitor student activities. Students complete
exercises and view materials on a computer screen rather than receiving the
information from written material or an instructor’s presentation. This dramatic change
from traditional teaching has far-reaching implications for the future of education.

Students who use computers have been shown to attend school more steadily
and perform better than students who do not use computers. Along with getting higher
grades on exams, students als0 stared they felt more involved with their lessons and
work if they used a computer(James Wright)

As Sarah Kessler of Mashable says; Digital simulations and models can help
teachers explain concepts that are too big or too small.

Even without an internet connection, a computers processing power helps

students quickly organize data and perform basic data modeling. Unlike paper formats,
digital files are easier to edit and transfer, streamlining communications between
teachers, students and parents and saving time when teachers update their classroom
materials.

A map is a graphic representation or scale model of spatial concepts. It is a

means of conveyzing geographic information. Maps are a universal medium for
comminucation, easily understood and appreciated by most people, regardless
ofvlanguage or culture. Incorporated in a map is the understanding that it is a snapshot
of an idea, a single picture, a selection of concepts from constantly changing database
of geiographic information (Merriam 1996)

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This action research aims to justify wether the use of Mapping history outline in
computer basd instruction among the Grad 8 in Araling Palipunan 8 of Maasin
Vocational High School. Specifically, the research seeks to answer the following
question.

1. What is the profile of the Grade 8 students of Maasin Vocational High School?

2. Did students have shown positive outcome while learning the mapping historz
outline using the computer?

3. Did it helps students improve their written works?

4. To what percent did the MPS reached while trying to achieve the 80% MPS
required in the division-

5. Is there a significant difference between a computer based instruction and

traditional teaching method while teaching the mapping history outline in the
teaching learning process?

RESEARCH METHODS

^
SAMPLING

Learners from grade 8 classes will be the sampling of this study. This will
used the experimental method on which the first section who is will given the
computer based instruction the other section will be used in the traditional
teaching where texbooks are the source of the informations. Both are belong to
the heterogenous classes.

DATA GATHERING METHOD

The outline history mapping model will be used in actual teaching process
both in traditional teaching and computer based instruction. The proponent will
be the one to provide and make the E outline history mapping model and she will
be the teacher who will conduct the traditional way of teaching and there will be
other teacher who will be conducting, using the computer based instruction in
the E outlined history mapping. Students attendance will be also considerable
and valuable of this study.

The daily quiz will serve as the basis of the data to evaluate the written
works outcome of the learners and to calculate the mean percentage scores of
the day targeting the 80% required.

The school principal and the head teacher will be the observant of this
studz. They will be the will approved and disapproved the effectiveness of this
study.

Data Analysis

This study will focus on the quantitative research since its purpose to
improve the learners wriiten outcome and to acquired the 80% of MPS in Araling
Panlipunan 8.
