Lesson 6:Present Simple, Adverbs of Frequency & Prepositions of Time.
Present Simple (Απλός Ενεστώτας)
Adverbs of Frequency (Επιρρήματα συχνότητας)
(άντβερμπζ οβ φρίκουενσι)
Prepositions of time (χρονικές προθέσεις)
Present Simple:
FORM:(σχηματισμός)
Κατάφαση:1. Τα πρόσωπα I ,you, they ακολουθούνται από το κύριο ρήμα χωρίς
κατάληξη.(I want an ice cream).
2. Στα πρόσωπα he,she, it προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη –s στο κύριο ρήμα.

Spelling rules for he, she, it (ορθογραφικοί κανόνες)

1. Στα ρήματα που τελειώνουν σε –s, -ss, -ch, -sh, -x, -o προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη
-es.
dress-dresses
wash-washes catch-catches
go-goes fix-fixes
2.Όταν το ρήμα τελειώνει σε σύμφωνο +y, τότε στη θέση του βάζουμε –I και στη
συνέχεια προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη –es.
marry- marries study-studies
3. Όταν το ρήμα τελειώνει σε φωνήεν +y, προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη –s.

Άρνηση: Για να σχηματίσουμε την άρνηση στο Present Simple βάζουμε το βοηθητικό
ρήμα do/does+ not πριν από το κύριο ρήμα. Αφαιρούμε από το κύριο ρήμα την
κατάληξη –s στα πρόσωπα he, she, it.
She doesn’t like David. We don’t go out at the weekend.

Ερώτηση: Χρησιμοποιούμε το βοηθητικό ρήμα Do/Does όταν κάνουμε ερωτήσεις

στο Simple Present.
Do you like coffee? Yes, I do/No, I don’t.
Does Mary live in Athens? Yes, she does/ No, she doesn’t.

Time expressions(χρονικές εκφράσεις) :

 every day/week/month κλπ.
 in the morning/afternoon κλπ.
 once a week/ twice a month κλπ.
 on Monday/ Tuesday κλπ.
Οι χρονικές εκφράσεις μπαίνουν στην αρχή και στο τέλος των προτάσεων.

Adverbs of frequency (επιρρήματα συχνότητας)

always(πάντα)
usually(συνήθως)
often(συχνά)
sometimes(μερικές φορές)
never(ποτέ)
Τα επιρρήματα συχνότητας μπαίνουν πριν το κύριο ρήμα αλλά μετά τι ρήμα to be.
Examples :Maria always studies for tests. I am never late for school.
Χρησιμοποιούμε τον Απλό Ενεστώτα για να μιλήσουμε για:
 μόνιμες καταστάσεις (My father works in a bank).
 πράγματα τα οποία κάνουμε συχνά (I play football twice a week)
 γενικές αλήθειες (general truths-ντζένεραλ τρουθς) (The earth goes round the
sun).

LESSON 7:Adverbs, Too & Enough

Adverbs(επιρρήματα)
Χρήση:Τα επιρρήματα μας δίνουν περισσότερες πληροφορίες για τα ρήματα.
1.Τα περισσότερα επιρρήματα (ομαλά) σχηματίζονται μα την κατάληξη –ly στο
επίθετο.
Adjective (επίθετο) Adverb(επίρρημα)
loud loudly
strange strangely
wonderful wonderfully
Bill has a loud voice Bill speaks loudly

2.Αν το επίθετο τελειώνει σε σύμφωνο +y, τότε βάζουμε στη θέση του το –I και
προσθέτουμε την κατάληξη – ly.
Adjective Adverb
hungry hungrily

3.Αν το επίθετο τελειώνει σε –ble, τότε βάζουμε στη θέση του –e το –y.
Adjective Adverb
horrible horribly

4.Μερικά επίθετα παραμένουν τα ίδια ως επιρρήματα.

Adjective Adverb
early early
late late
hard hard
fast fast

5. Το επίρρημα που βγαίνει από το επίθετο good, είναι well.

Too and enough.

H λέξη too έχει αρνητική σημασία. Σημαίνει πάρα πολύ, περισσότερο απ’ ότι κάτι
είναι απαραίτητο ή ζητείται.(He can’ t call her. It’ s too early).
Χρησιμοποιούμε το too στις προτάσεις: too +adjective/adverb +to +verb
(It’ s too hot to go for a walk).
Η λέξη enough έχει θετική σημασία. Σημαίνει αρκετά και χρησιμοποιείται πριν από
ένα ουσιαστικό αλλά μετά από ένα επίθετο ή ένα επίρρημα.
She is fast enough to win the race.
We haven’ t got enough time to study.

KING 3: No, wait! Let’ s look into the stable.
NARRATOR: They look into the stable and they see baby Jesus.
JOSEPH: Who are you ? What do you want?
KING 1: We want to see baby Jesus.
KING 2 : We’ re kings. A star showed us the way to this place.

The greenhouse effect

Gases such as (carbon dioxide are essential to life on our planet as
they act as a protective layer controlling the temperature on the
Earth’s surface. The extensive fuels (such as petrol, oil and coal)by
cars and factories releases an excess amount of such gases into the
atmosphere. As a result, too much heat from the sun is trapped,
creating a greenhouse effect where heat is absorbed but not then
released, and this, in turn ,has led to changes in the climate of the
Earth (global warm). Because the Earth is getting warmer, some fear
the polar ice caps may melt, which might result in a rise in the sea
level and flooding.

The natural greenhouse effect

A greenhouse looks like a small glass house, and is used to grow
plants in cold climates. The glass lets in light from the sun and stops
heat escaping. The Earth is like a greenhouse. There are greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere which are like the glass in a greenhouse. The
sun’s rays enter the Earth’s atmosphere and go through the
greenhouse gases to the Earth’s surface, which takes in this energy.
The rays are then sent back into space, but a lot of them remain in the
atmosphere thanks to the greenhouse gases. Without these greenhouse
gases the temperature would fall to –1800C ,which would be too cold
for plants to survive.
