Dear Friends,
We are off to a great start in the new Northshore
Baptist Association. Our fifteen member
Christmas Party
Lonnie Wascom
Administrative Council represents fifteen different Monday, December 13
churches and is capably led by our moderator, Pastor
Joe Dunn, Bethlehem, Albany. PRAYER FIRST is the watchword of this 6:00 p.m.
team. In the first full meeting of this Council on November 10, I heard them
share their cooperative vision for the SE Louisiana region lying along the I-

12 corridor North of Lakes Pontchartrain and Maurepas and it was refreshing
to my spirit. It is a great day for cooperative ministry at the associational

I want to exhort all reading this to do three things: 1. Make PRAYER or 225.567.5086
FIRST your watchword in all things you undertake for the Father’s glory. 2.
If you have not passed the resolution needed to make your church an official
member of the Northshore Baptist Association, please do so and inform our
office. Information on what needs to be done is elsewhere in this edition of
The Anchor. 3. Think 3%. Examine your missions budget and prayerfully
consider a goal of 3% of your church’s undesignated receipts being allocated
to the Northshore Baptist Association for the Jerusalem/Judea portion of
your Acts 1:8 strategy. Several of our churches are at this level or higher and
we commend them. Can you imagine what all could be done if all our
churches made that minimal commitment? Let me name a few things:
Expansion of our Cross-Cultural work, particularly among Asian and
Hispanic affinity people; Perhaps a second Cowboy/Horse Culture Church;
A strategic plant along the Hwy 1088 corridor near the new I-12
interchange; A partnership with an association in NE Nebraska focusing on
facilitating a church planting strategy among the Omaha Nation; Intentional
efforts to partner declining/dying congregations with healthy congregations
for the sake of the witness in many communities in our region; Larger
supplements for sponsoring churches/planters/revitalization/ministry
strategists; and the list goes on and on.
I pray that you and your loved ones will have an incredible holiday
season and please know how thankful I am for the privilege God has give me
to serve the churches of the Northshore Baptist Association region.
Pray for us and remember to “Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus” (Hebrews
12:2).

Grace Memorial (Slidell) Ladies’ Christmas Tea will be
held on Saturday, December 4, 10:00-11:30 a.m. Bring three
dozen cookies and the recipe. Children are welcome. Blue
Mosaic (Jews for Jesus Musical Presentation), is planned
for Sunday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. The Children and
Preschool Choirs will present "Star of Wonder" on Sunday,
December 12, at 10:15 a.m. The combined choirs and drama
team will present “Only Love” Saturday, December 18, at
6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 19, at 10:15 a.m. A
Candlelight Service with the Lord's Supper will be held on
Christmas Eve at 6:00 p.m. Pastor is Bob Heustess.
First (Ponchatola) Music and Drama Ministries will
produce their annual Christmas Spectacular 2010 – “A
Baby Changes Everything” – on Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday, December 10-12 at 7:00 p.m. They invite everyone
on the North Shore to enjoy the story of the birth of Christ
and hope that this will help get churches in the Christmas
Spirit. “A Baby Changes Everything” is all Biblical this
year and includes a manger scene, shepherds, angels, wise
men, baby Jesus, little boy Jesus, adult Jesus and many other
dramatic scenes and will include 11 banners. The Sanctuary
Choir and Orchestra present the music. Chip Vickers is the
Music Pastor. Dr. David Cranford is the Pastor.
First (Covington) invites everyone to join Ricky Skaggs
and family on Friday, December 17, or Saturday, December
18, for a Skaggs Family Christmas. Tickets start at $25.00
and may be purchased online at www.fbccov.org or you
may contact Karen in the church office at 985.892.2149.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and concert begins at 7:00 p.m.
each night. Waylon Bailey is pastor.
New Zion (Covington) will have their Christmas Drive
Thru, December 3-5, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Their Christmas
Cantata, "In the Fullness of Time," will be on December
12 at 10:30 a.m. and a Candlelight Lord's Supper Service
will be on Christmas Eve 6:00 p.m. Marvelous Mondays
will be held in January at 7:00 p.m. each Monday with
different speakers and worship leaders each service. Clark
Stewart is pastor. Toby Hughes is minister of music.

Ridge Memorial (Slidell) enjoyed Old Fashion Sunday on
November 14. Everyone dressed up in country garb. Many of
the ladies wore their hats and long dresses. During the
invitation, one of the youth accepted Christ as her Savior.
After much rejoicing by the church everyone went to the
fellowship building for some great eating. Pastor Paul
Dabdoub said the fellowship was great and the food
outstanding. “Our ladies really know how to cook!” Slidell
Baptist Seminary continues to get more new students. The
seminary has a present enrollment of 1,860.
Bethlehem (Albany) will present their Christmas program
“Child of Wonder” on Sunday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m.
Albany area churches will join Bethlehem for a Community
Fifth Sunday Singing on January 30 at 5:00 p.m. Joe Dunn
is pastor. Dennis Walker is music director.
LBC Annual Meeting Coming
to Northshore in 2011
The LBC meeting is just barely behind us but it is already
time to start thinking about the next one. Why? Exciting
news! Because FBC Covington will be the host site for
November 2011! That means that Baptists from all across
Louisiana will come to our region! One of the great
opportunities associated with the LBC Annual Meeting is the
local CrossOver event that precedes each annual meeting.
CrossOver is designed by local ministers to meet local needs.
The LBC supports the local CrossOver by inviting other LBC
partners to assist in the local effort. Additionally, LBC funds
CrossOver through matching dollars. Initial plans are to
utilize the CrossOver Northshore 2011 to launch a new
church plant. We need your participation as we plan and pray
for this important strategic effort. Please call Bro Lonnie now
to assist in this effort.
ESL (Literacy Missions)
Workshop is Scheduled
An ESL Workshop will be held at Jefferson Baptist Church,
9135 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on February 12 and
19 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This training is a 16-hour
workshop designed to equip volunteers to teach English as a
Second Language as a mission outreach program. Most
church members can participate, since trainers can teach
conversational English without knowing other languages.
The cost of the workshop is $20.00. Lunch will be available
on both days for an additional cost of $12.00. Registration
