Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Greetings of peace.

In the second reading today, St. Paul points out to the Corinthians that there are divisions among them. It’s
helpful for us to remember that the early Christians didn’t have the luxury of large public gathering places.
They simply met in people’s homes. (Imagine how different one’s experience of church would be if we
started to do that.) Also consider that the homes in those days were not large. Since there were small
groups of Christians meeting separately all over a given city or town, it’s easy to understand how particular
locations might have gotten off-message for a period of time. Paul‘s letter then was to remind the
Corinthians that there is value in unity: Jesus is the central figure around whom we can all rally. The same
message applies to us in our time.

Have a blessed week.
