Global context : globalisation and sustainability

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations ,more commonly known

as ASEAN. It is an intergovernmental organization aimed primarily at
promoting economic growth and regional stability among its members
ASEAN aims to promote collaboration and cooperation among
member states, as well as to advance the interests of the region as a
whole, including economic and trade growth . There are currently
10 member states: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,
Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam. The paper
suggests that in these efforts ASEAN faces five major issues
and challenges: enlargement, regional security cooperation, economic
issues and cooperation, leadership transitions in ASEAN's members,
and the renewed problems in Cambodia. It has negotiated a free trade
agreement among member states. There are many pros and cons for
the countries and the citizens belonging to ASEAN. In 2015, it
established the ASEAN Economic Community , a major milestone in
the organization’s regional economic integration agenda. The AEC
envisions the block as a single market with free flow of goods,
services, investments and skilled labour, and free movement of capital
across the region.
Human capabilities as an ethical category the term refers to
those capabilities of an individual that are valuable or salient from an
ethical perspective. Some capabilities may be trivial from the
perspective of justice and development. Trade is a basic economic
concept involving the buying and selling of goods and services, with
compensation paid by a buyer to a seller, or the exchange of goods or
services between parties. The annual gathering of Southeast Asian
leaders began Tuesday with a warning from the host, Singapore Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong, about threats against international rules
that underpin world stability and economic growth. Among issues on
the agenda for ASEAN and other leaders attending meetings in
Singapore this week, including U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, are
talks on a new regional trade pact that would commit member
countries and others in the Asian-Pacific region to opening markets
further.
There are many benefits for the countries in the ASEAN. Lower cost
of living, Improved job opportunities and general well-being, Better
job opportunities and education abroad, Less hassle in traveling,
Philippines prosperity. The ASEAN Free Trade Area is a trade bloc
agreement by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations supporting
local trade and manufacturing in all ASEAN countries, and
facilitating economic integration with regional and international
allies.

The 33rd edition of ASEAN summit 2018 has started in the city-state
of Singapore on November 11 with theme 'Resilient and
innovative ASEAN . The main event is held at Suntec Singapore
Convention Centre, wherein the ten ASEAN members will be
discussing key issues on economic, security and cultural cooperation.
The theme of Singapore’s chairmanship is Resilient and Innovative,
which perfectly encapsulates the attitude ASEAN needs to take in the
face of today’s global challenges. With an economy that’s booming, a
market size of over 600 million people, and a strategic location,
ASEAN is fast growing into a global player. Not only was this
summit of a higher profile, the issues discussed were important – not
only for the region, but possibly for the world too. The attendance of
global leaders signalled that ASEAN is no longer just a backwater
region at the periphery of Asia, but that the region plays an important
role in shaping the future of global politics and trade. Innovation
involves deliberate application of information, imagination and
initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources, and
includes all processes by which new ideas are generated and
converted into useful products.

To conclude, the more number of such summits between countries of

organization as ASEAN leads to development of innovative and
sustainable ideas that grow eventually will lead to a strong
globalization across the world
