Time: 50 minutes

Analyze Learner

 Learners' general characteristics

This class consists of 26 students: 11 boys and 15 girls. Their ages are
ranged from 9 to 10. Majority of the class is familiar with computer and
technology. Students are from different social economics and their
learning styles vary from visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

 Entry Characteristics

Students are familiar with usage of computer and search engine.

 Learning Styles

Students' learning styles vary from visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.

Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students must be able:

1- Understand what fraction is

2- Calculate the fraction of a number

Strategies, Methods, Media, and Materials

 Strategy

Discussions, questions and answers, along with technological tools will

be used to teach students how to add and subtract fractions with like
denominators.
 Technology and Materials

Students will have access to computers to solve online activities.

Interactive board is going to be used to show students pictures about

objects divided into portions (like pizza ...). Teacher will display videos
to accommodate with learning styles.

Use Phet-Simulations that will help students to understand more how

fractions are made.

Use Kahoot for evaluation.

 Media

Students will use text, visuals such as photos and drawings.

Utilize technology, Media, and Materials

 Prepare the materials

Classroom computers, interactive board, the internet connection, and

speakers are going to be checked before class.

 Prepare the environment

Desks are arranged in a manner that allows for small group work.

 Prepare the learners

Students will be informed about the types of activities that will be done
during session.

Require learner participation

Introducing students to fractions and giving the definition: A fraction is a

"part" of a "whole". It is also a ratio between two integers separated by a
solidus (/) or a vinculum ( __ ). The upper part of a fraction is called a
numerator and the lower part is called a denominator.
Below are examples of fractions:

4 1
1/2,6/7,7/8, ,
3 10
After the definition, showing them a picture on the active board of a
circle divided into 6 parts and they have to identify the whole unit as a
fraction and 3 parts of the whole. Next step is to show them a video how
to add and subtract a fraction:

Dividing students into groups to solve an activity about adding fractions:

Now students will use Phet with same groups and make this activity:
Teacher is asking students to draw rectangles and divided into 8 parts.
Students must color three over eight of the first rectangle and seven over
eight of the second rectangle. In the end, they should identify how many
portions we need to color all of these two rectangles.

Evaluate and Revise

Asking questions about what is a fraction and how to add and subtract a
fraction with like denominator.
Students must solve a small quiz individually on Kahoot with 1
maximum error.
These tools provided in this session were very effective to students and
will be used in next lesson which is about Lines and Circles in addition of
Geogebra tool.
