Learning Area: PE Grade Level: 9 Quarter 1 Competency #: PE9GS-Ib-h-5

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students must be able to achieve 75% proficiency
in the following:
1. demonstrate correct hand signals of referees in basketball, volleyball, and football with
mastery
2. exhibit quick/sharp judgement calls while officiating a game; and
3. realize the value of high level of fitness in sports officiating.

Topic: Sports Officiating – Referees’ Hand Signals

Materials: bamboo stilt or coconut shell-made kadang, speaker and recorded music, visual materials

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Drill (5 minutes)

C. Preparation (10 minutes)


Do preliminary activities
-Obtain heart rate at rest.

-Obtain heart rate after warm-up activity

D. Developmental Activity (10 minutes)


Group the class into three and let them select a group leader. Leaders will draw lots to designate
which sport will be assigned to them.

Group 3 - Baseball
a. Group Activity – Master the hand signals of referees
b. Group Assessment – 2 points will be given to a correctly, timely performed hand signal

E. Enrichment (5 minutes)
Let students find a partner and execute the hand signals in synchrony.

F. Application (25 minutes)


Let each group play an actual game. Let them assign officiating officials for each sports. The
remaining members will play.

G. Assessment (5 minutes)
Let them write a short reaction about the actual officiating using the guide questions below:
1. What went wrong? What went well?
2. Why is there a need to give precise and immediate calls?
3. What limits an official from giving precise and immediate class?
4. How can one improve his or her officiating skills in terms of precision and immediacy?

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Choose a sport you want to officiate and review the nutritional requirements and fitness
components needed by the official in the chosen sport. Paste/draw on a paper plate the food and
drinks you plan to take regularly. Make your work presentable and present it to the class.
