01 December 2010 Romanian National Day -- meditation on Unity

At 1st of December 1918, The National Assembly that took place at Alba Iulia, assembly of 1228
delegates and agreed by over 100 000 people gathered for the event from all over Romania territories,
ratifies the union of all the Romanians from Transilvania (center Romania) and Banat ( the land between
Mures, Tisa and Danube rivers) with Mother Romania (the other territories already united).

The Union Law was ratified by the Decree Noo.3631 of 11 th of December 1918, by King Ferdinand the
First and voted by the Deputies Assembly , in the 29 th of December meeting, unanimously.

The resolution of the Union was read by Vasile Goldis at Alba Iulia, 1 st December 1918: “the assembly of
all the Romanians from Transilvania and Banat, gathered together through their representatives on 18 th
of November-1st December 1918, decrees the union of all the Romanians that live in these counties …”.

The Unity has always been one of the desires of all the people that spoke the same language all over the
world. This desire in itself was always primordial to any others imposed by location, history or politic
differences. It became not only a word, but an action that gives hope in a more certain future, in a more
profound identity and faithful aspirations.

According to the Bible, the Unity is one of God’s characteristics. There is Perfect Unity in the Holy Trinity.
Our Saviour Himself sais to Philip the following verses in John 14:10-17 :

“10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to
you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his
work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe
on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do
the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am
going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be
glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. 15 “If you love
me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to
help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because
it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be [c] in you.

Because the Church is lead by God the Father, through the intervention of the grace that came
through the Son, and by the guiding work of the Holy Spirit, the Unity becomes one of the
desideratum’s of the Church, and a sign that proves It’s identity in The Lord.
This is why Paul the apostle urges the Ephesus Church to always “to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). The God that gives life to all of us and that works in
all of us will lead us to unity: obeying the Father -“ have the same mindset as Christ
Jesus”(Philipians 2:5); growing in the knowledge of Christ the Son “until we all reach unity
in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole
measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13); and serving through the Holy Spirit
“From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and
builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (Ephesians 4:16).

I wish Happy National Day to all the Romanians , and a Spirit of Unity that gives spiritual life to
all of us!
