-Gujarati: Ethnic group primarily inhabiting the state of Gujarat in India who are quite distinct

from any other Indo-Aryan groups, although having a certain affinity with Sindhis and Marathis
to an extent. Overwhelmingly adhere to Hinduism, with a small Jain and Muslim minority and
belong mostly to haplogroups R1a, J and H. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large
diaspora in the United States and elsewhere.

-Hindustani: Centralized Indo-Aryan people speaking dialects of Hindustani, a very diverse


language grouping dominate in North/Central India. Mostly following Hinduism, with a very large
Muslim minority and smaller numbers of Christians, Buddhists and Jains and belong mostly to
haplogroups R1a and R2. Numbering several hundred million with a large diaspora throughout
the world, but especially the United States and Gulf Arab states.

-Marathi: Southernmost Indo-Aryan people other than the Sinhalese and Dhivehi, who have a
large amount of influence on and from the Dravidians of Southern India. Mostly Hindu with large
Buddhist and Muslim minorities and mostly belong to haplogroup R1a. Numbering nearly a
hundred million with a moderate diaspora in the United States and Middle East.

-Northeast Indic: Indo-Aryan peoples of Northeast India including the Assamese, Bengali and
Odia, who all have varying admixture from Eastern Eurasian populations. Split between Islamic
and Hindu populations and mostly belong to haplogroup R1a and H. Numbering in the hundreds
of millions with a large diaspora across the Anglosphere and in the Gulf Arab states primarily.

-Northwest Indic: Indo-Aryan peoples of the Northwest of the South Asian Subcontinent,
principally the Punjabis and Sindhis, although the definition of this subgroup varies greatly by
source. Has large amounts of admixture from the Middle East from millennia of contact and
assimilation. Mostly Islamic with a large Hindu, Sikh, and to a lesser extent Christian minority
and mostly belong to haplogroups R1a and J. Numbering in the hundreds of millions with a
large diaspora in the Anglosphere and Gulf Arab states.

-Sinhalese: Southernmost Indo-Aryan population on the island of Sri Lanka that is the result of
ancient migration from many parts of Northern India such as Bengal and Maharashtra, who
assimilated the majority of the native Veddas and Sri Lankan Tamils. Category includes the
closely-related Dhivehi of the Maldives. Predominantly Buddhist, with a small Christian and
Muslim (with the Dhivehi) minority and predominately belong to haplogroup R2. Numbering near
twenty million with a moderate diaspora in the Gulf Arab states and the Anglosphere.

-Indo-South African: Unique, mostly English-speaking, amalgamation of various South Asian


ethnic groups in the continent of Africa who have somewhat fused into a single ethnic group
over the centuries, but are primarily of Tamil extraction. Includes Indo-Mascarene subgroups,
although this is a separate cluster. Mostly Hindu with a large Muslim and Christian minority and
predominately belong to haplogroups H and R1a. Numbering in the millions with a sizeable
diaspora (proportionately) in the rest of the Anglosphere.
-Indo-Caribbean: Another amalgamation of South Asian ethnicities who were brought to the
West Indies as indentured laborers hundreds of years ago and coalesced into a single group,
but are mostly Hindustani in origin. Split more evenly between Hindus, Christians and Muslims
and belong primarily to haplogroup R1a. Numbering a couple million with a large diaspora in the
US and Canada especially.

-Indo-Fijian: Another cluster of South Asian immigrants to the islands of Fiji, who, up until
recently, constituted a plurality in the country. Again mostly of Hindustani origins. Mostly Hindu
with a Muslim and Christian minority and belong mostly to haplogroup R1a. Numbering several
hundred thousand with a huge segment of the community emigrating to Australia, New Zealand
and the rest of the Anglosphere.

-Dardic: Dardic-speaking groups located mostly in Northern India and Pakistan who are very
phenotypically and culturally distinct from all other Indo-Iranian peoples, with a large minority
having fair features expressed in hair and eye color. Believed to be the descendants of the
original unmixed “Aryans” who migrated South from Central Asia, albeit hypothesized to be
mixed with various groups. Overwhelmingly Islamic, mostly Sunni, with a small Hindu minority
and belong to the R1a haplogroup. Numbering in the millions with a moderate diaspora in the
UK, US and other regions of South Asia.

-Burusho: Ethnic group located in Northern Pakistan belonging to a language isolate and hence
very little is known about the origins or relations of this group, although they are distantly related
to the neighboring Dards, Tibetans and Iranians. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong
predominately to haplogroups R1a and R2. Numbering nearly a hundred thousand with no
significant diaspora.

-Nuristani: Independent branch of the Indo-Iranian branch with no close relations to any other
group with the exception of the Dards to the East. Up until quite recently were the last
polytheistic population of Afghanistan, although have since been Islamized, having very distinct
cultural practices in the region. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong predominately to haplogroup
R1a. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with an unknown, but likely significant diaspora.

-Munda: Various ethnic groups speaking Austroasiatic languages from a group of migrants from
Southeast Asia, and hence have around 25% Eastern Eurasian admixture. Have very little
Western Eurasian admixture at all, with the bulk of their genepool being native to the Indian
Subcontinent. Split between followers of traditional ethnic religions, Hinduism and, most
recently, Christianity and mostly belonging to haplogroup O2a. Numbering in the millions with no
major diaspora to the present day.

-Dravidian: South Asian group that predates the arrival of the Indo-Aryans in the North, but are
largely relegated to the Southern states in the present day and include groups such as the
Malayali, Tamil and Telugu. Due to intermarriage throughout the millennia, the Dravidians and
Indo-Aryans share a large proportion of their genepool. Mostly Hindu today, with a large minority
of Christians and Muslims and predominantly belong to haplogroups H, L or R2. Numbering in
the hundreds of millions today with a large diaspora all throughout the world.

-Brahui: The last Dravidian-speaking population in the North, although genetically and culturally
speaking, the Brahui have all but been assimilated by the surrounding Baloch population.
Bilingualism near universal. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong to haplogroups R1a or J.
Numbering in the millions today in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

-Moor: Islamic, Tamil-speaking population of Sri Lanka that claims descent from Arab traders
over the centuries, although the degree of Arab heritage is as of now unknown. It should be
noted that many other South Asian Muslims also claim descent from an Arab tribe. Islamic and
presumably belong to haplogroups J1 and R2. Numbering in the millions with an unknown
diaspora in the Western world.

-Vedda: Indigenous inhabitants of the island of Sri Lanka, who although have had their own
language in the past, have currently adopted an Indo-Aryan creole variant, although they still
retain a highly distinct phenotype and culture from other Sri Lankans. Predominantly adherents
of Buddhism with a large Christian and Hindu minority. Numbering in the thousands and
dwindling quickly, with no significant diaspora. Assimilation may cause this unique group to
vanish soon.

-Adivasi: Indigenous inhabitants of the South Asian Subcontinent, who have remained isolated
in small pockets scattered throughout Central India and Nepal. Have very little to no Western
Eurasian admixture and hence are very physically distinct from other South Asians. Mostly
belong to haplogroups H and T, and are divided between those who adhere to traditional
animistic beliefs, Hinduism and, in recent years, Christianity. Number in the tens of millions
today, with nearly all remaining in South Asia.

-South Arabian: Ancient group inhabiting the Southeast corner of the Arabian peninsula on the
border of Oman and Yemen as well as the Indian Ocean island of Socotra off the coast of
Somalia. Despite proximity and supposed physical similarities, no close relation exists with the
neighboring Somalia or Horn Africans, and instead it has been proposed that they are a
remnant population of ancient Veddoids of the Middle East. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong
to haplogroup J2. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a moderate diaspora in Gulf
Arab states along with the Horn of Africa.

-Romani: Diaspora group of South Asian origin, originally from Northwest India, but have since
admixed with many groups in the Middle East and Europe on their way to the Balkans, where
they are spread out over many countries, but especially Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. Split
between Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam and irreligion and belonging to
haplogroup H and R1a. Numbering several million today with a large diaspora in the Americas,
especially Latin America.
-Domari: Another diaspora group closely-related to the Domari, but residing in the Middle East
and North Africa instead of Europe. Predominantly Islamic and belong mostly to haplogroup H.
Numbering in the millions today with a small diaspora in areas with a large Arab minority.

-Kholosi: The most heavily removed Indo-Aryan population barring the Romani and Domari,
located in Southern Iran, although this group has only been recently discovered and very little is
known about them. Overwhelmingly Islamic and presumably belong to haplogroup R1a or J1.
Numbering no more than a thousand, with no known diaspora.

-Franco: Romance-speaking groups consisting of various ethnicities falling under the “French”
label, including Occitanians, Walloons, Normans and Quebecois individuals. Were a fusion of
many Celtic, Germanic and Vasconic tribes under the Roman identity having conquered much
of Europe and the world during the colonial period. Mostly Catholic with a large irreligious
segment, belonging mostly to haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions, with a large
diaspora in Latin America and especially the United States and Canada, where they form the
2nd largest ethnicity after Anglo-Canadians.

-Italic: Various Italian ethnic and identities speaking the Italian language, with regional variation
in genetics, appearance and culture from a North-South gradient. Gave birth to all other Italic
(Romance) groups and languages during the Roman period of conquest, migration and
assimilation. Predominantly Roman Catholic while belonging mostly to haplogroup R1b.
Numbering over a hundred million worldwide, with a large diaspora in the Northeast United
States and Southern Cone of South America.

-Iberian: Romance-speaking ethnic groups of the Iberian peninsula including Catalans,


Portuguese and Spaniards who had reclaimed the peninsula from the Islamic Moors starting
over a thousand years ago. Conquest and migration have brought their culture and language to
all corners of the globe. Mostly Roman Catholic, with a large irreligious minority and belonging
primarily to haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions, with hundreds of millions more of
partial Iberian descent around the globe.

-Sardinian: Speakers of the Sardinian branch of the Indo-European language family, although
because of their historic isolation they have one of the most unique gene pools in all of Europe.
Predominantly Roman Catholic while belonging to the I2a haplogroup. Numbering over a million
with an unknown diaspora in the Americas.

-Rhaetian: Speakers of the Rhaeto-Romance languages in Northern Italy and Switzerland, a


unique family unintelligible to Italian or French speakers, with considerable influence
linguistically and genetically from the ancient continental Celts, Slavs and Germans. Mostly
Roman Catholic and belonging to haplogroup R1b. Numbering several hundred thousand with
an unknown diaspora.

-Romanian: Last remnants of the Roman Empire in Eastern Europe including the Moldovans,
Vlachs and Aromanians. Have ancient roots in the Italian peninsula, but genetic studies show a
stronger affinity to other Balkan people. Overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian and belong to
haplogroup I2a. Numbering in the tens of millions with a growing diaspora in Western Europe
and Northern America.

-Canarian: Offspring between the mostly male Spanish conquerors in the 15th century and the
indigenous peoples of the Canary Islands, who were previously an Afro-Asiatic group, speaking
a language (Guanche) related to the Berber languages of mainland Africa, perhaps with
extended genetic connections to primordial Europeans. Notably tall, with a duskier complexion
than mainland Spaniards. No longer speak Guanche. Mostly Catholic with an irreligious
minority, and belong to haplogroups R1b (from Spaniards) and E3b2 (from natives). Located in
the Canary Islands with a large recent diaspora in mainland Spain, and a much older, larger
diaspora in Hispanic America numbering several million when including those with partial
descent.

-Criollo: Self-identified White Hispanics of the mainland Americas who have colonial roots dating
back hundreds of years, who may have varying degrees of admixture from Amerindian and
African groups, along with significant ancestry from ethnic minorities of the Iberian peninsula
including Gitanos, Christianized Moors, Sephardi Jews and Basques. Mostly Catholic and
mostly belonging to haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions, and maybe more
depending on the definition, with a large diaspora in the United States.

-White Hispanic Caribbean: Self-identified Whites of Hispanic territories in the Caribbean


including Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, although definitions between racial
groups in the region are quite blurred and admixture is high. Distinguished from other White
Hispanics by the high degree of Canarian heritage present, so much in fact, that Caribbean
Spanish is easily recognized for it's high degree of similarities to that spoken in the Canary
Islands. Mostly Catholic and belonging predominately to haplogroup R1b. Numbering over 10
million with a very large diaspora in the mainland United States.

-Luso-Brazilian: Self-identified White Brazilians of colonial-era stock, meaning they can trace
their ancestors to the first Portuguese settlers of Brazil, who have major admixture from African
and Amerindian sources, with racial lines being even further blurred. Similarly to White
Hispanics, may have significant heritage from ethnic minorities of Iberia, along with more
recently, a significant amount of admixture from Christian Arab migrants from the Ottoman
Empire. Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant minority and predominately belong to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions with a moderate diaspora in the United
States and Portugal and elsewhere in the Lusophone world.

-West Slavic: Slavic descendants on the Western end of the spectrum very easily distinguished
from others linguistically and culturally speaking, including Poles, Czechs and Slovaks. Have
suffered extreme bloodshed and displacement in centuries past due to being located between
two superpowers of Europe. Mostly Catholic, with a huge irreligious population in the Czech
Republic and belong mostly to haplogroup R1a. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large
diaspora in Northern America and the Southern Cone.

-East Slavic: Slavic descendants in the East including Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians,
who have expanded greatly in the past couple centuries, mostly as the result of assimilation of
various Baltic, Uralic, Caucasian and occasionally Turkic groups. Siberian admixture in
Russians in the Far East is not uncommon. Are mostly Orthodox Christians with a large
irreligious and Catholic minority and belong mostly to haplogroup R1a or N in the North due to
Finnic admixture. Numbering in the hundreds of millions with a large diaspora in Central Asia,
other post-Soviet States and Northern America.

-South Slavic: Slavs of the Balkans including Bulgarians, Slovenes and other Yugoslavs, who
have become highly fractured due primarily to religious and cultural differences. Although they
do have origins in the Slavic migrations to the Roman Empire, their genepool is still more closely
related to other Balkan groups like the Albanians, Romanians or Greeks, although culturally
they have much in common with other Slavs. Split between Orthodox and Catholics with an
Islamic and irreligious minority and belong mostly to haplogroup I2a and R1a. Numbering in the
tens of millions with a large diaspora in Northern America and the Southern Cone.

-Baltic: Ethno-linguistic group closely related to, but distinct from the Slavs, who are also heavily
related to Finnic groups, having been under the thumb of the Germans and Russians for the
past few centuries after having conquered much of the Eastern half of the European continent.
Split between Catholicism, Lutheranism and a large irreligious minority, while also being split
between haplogroups N and R1a. Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora in Western
Europe and the United States.

-Anglo: English who are the result of Germanic tribes invading and settling in Britain,
assimilating the Roman British and native Celtic population into a single identity over the
centuries, and for this reason has many similarities with many cultures and languages of
Europe. Went on to dominate many areas of the planet during the colonial era. Mostly Christian
(Protestant, traditionally Anglican) with a growing irreligious segment and belonging to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering over a hundred million, with diasporas all around the world.

-Germanic: Germanic peoples of the mainland of Europe such as Germans and the Dutch as
the result of invasions and migration from the North into the Northern Roman Empire. Up until a
few centuries ago, Germans were not a homogenized ethnicity. Divided nearly equally between
Protestants, Catholics and the irreligious and belonging to the R1b haplogroup. Numbering over
a hundred million with an incredibly large diaspora in Northern America, more scattered
throughout Latin America and elsewhere around the world.

-Scandinavian: Germanic peoples of Scandinavia and Iceland who perhaps have the most fair
complexion of any European people. Icelandic and Faroese also have large amounts of Celtic
maternal ancestry from Viking raids to the British Isles for concubines and slaves. Mostly
nominally Protestant with a large irreligious minority, while belonging mostly to the I1
haplogroup. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large diaspora in Northern America and
elsewhere.

-Afrikaner: Majority of White South Africans who are of mixed Dutch, German and French
ancestry, with small (but not insignificant) amounts of Indian, Bantu and Khoisan ancestry from
the intermixing of the first European settlers. Mostly Protestant and belonging to the R1b
haplogroup. Numbering in the millions, with a large diaspora all over the world.

-Mormon: Adherents of the Mormon religion of old-stock, non-convert families dating back over
a century who have somewhat homogenized into a single ethno-religious population of
Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian ancestry, located primarily in Utah and Idaho. Overwhelmingly
Mormon (even if nominal) as many retain the label of Mormon even if they leave the LDS church
and belong primarily to haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora in
Canada and Mexico.

-Celtic: Ancient Indo-European peoples formerly dominating much of Central and Western
Europe although currently confined to the fringes of the British Isles and Brittany. For the most
part, outside of the British (and Irish) Isles, there is no ethnic distinction between those of Celtic
and Anglo stock, although the concept of these groups being separate had long been ingrained
in the culture of the Anglosphere up until the recent past. Split between Catholic and Protestant
with an irreligious minority and belong to haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions with
a gargantuan diaspora in the Anglosphere and Latin America outnumbering those in the British
Isles many times over.

-Falklander: Descendants of the mostly British settlers to the Falkland islands in the past 2
centuries, predominately of Scottish and Welsh extraction, although some admixture from
various South American nations in recent times. Due to recent migration to and from the island
this group is barely a cohesive identity anymore. Mostly Anglican or Catholic with a (very) large
irreligious minority, and mostly belong to haplogroup R1b. Located primarily in the Falkland
Islands, with smaller numbers in Great Britain numbering no more than a few thousand.

-Albanian: Indo-European group claiming direct descent from the ancient Illyrian ethnicity,
although these claims have been met with skepticism. Were one of the few European ethnicities
to be heavily Islamized during the Ottoman occupation that lasted hundreds of years. Mostly
Islamic with a large Christian and irreligious minority although religious laws are not strictly
observed (possibly the most secular Islamic ethnicity) and predominately belong to haplogroup
E3b1 and I. Numbering several million with a huge diaspora in Turkey (from Muslim Balkan
refugees), Italy (Catholic Arbereshe) and more recently in Western Europe (mostly Kosovar
refugees).

-Greek: Ancient Indo-European group formerly inhabiting the bulk of Anatolia, along with
colonies throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East, though have remained distinctly
European in origin despite large cultural borrowing from the Near East. Through conquering
much of South/Southwest Asia, have had a huge genetic and cultural impact on many of these
groups. Predominantly Orthodox Christians and split between many different haplogroups, with
E3b1 being the most common, followed by R and J and I. Numbering near ten million with a
large diaspora in the US, Australia and throughout the world.

-Gagauz: Turkic-speaking Orthodox Christian group in the Balkans (predominantly Moldova and
Ukraine) who are believed to be either Turkish converts to Christianity or a group of Turkified
Bulgarians, with the latter explanation being most likely considering significant genetic ties
between the two groups. Overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian and belong mostly to haplogroup
I2a. Numbering over a hundred thousand with a small diaspora throughout the Balkans and
former Soviet Union.

-Maltese: Semitic-speaking Catholics of the islands of Malta who are the result of a fusion of
many Mediterranean cultures including the Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Normans. Speak a
North African Arabic-based language that has been so heavily influenced by Italian as to
become barely intelligible with neighboring Tunisian Arabic. Overwhelmingly Roman Catholic
and are split between haplogroup R1b and J2. Numbering near a million with a huge diaspora in
Australia, Italy, the US and UK.

-Basque: Last of the isolate ancient Vasconic population with no known relatives in the present
day, yet are deeply tied to other Iberian populations despite belonging to a different
ethno-linguistic family. Although their language was suppressed in the past, a linguistic revival
effort is bringing new fervor to this ethnic identity. Mostly Catholic and belong overwhelmingly to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering in the millions with tens of millions more of partial Basque ancestry
with a gargantuan diaspora in Latin America.

-Hungarian: Uralic-speaking European population that is the result of a small migration wave
from the Ural mountain region to Central Europe, yet remain overwhelmingly European in origin,
having assimilated various groups of Roman, Germanic, Slavic, Avar and Turkic groups
throughout the centuries. Mostly Catholic with a large irreligious and Protestant minority while
belonging predominately to haplogroup R1a and I. Numbering over ten million with a moderate
diaspora in the Americas and other regions of Europe.

-Finnic: Finnic-speaking populations of the Uralic family with closer genetic ties to other Uralic
peoples than the Hungarians and include Finns, Karelians and Estonians. Still overwhelmingly
European in origin, having the highest percentage of fair hair and skin of any group. Mostly
nominal Lutheran adherents with a large irreligious minority (majority in Estonia) and an
Orthodox minority in Russia and belong mostly to haplogroup N3. Numbering nearly ten million
with a moderate diaspora in the United States and elsewhere.

-Sami: Ancient European population on the far Northern fringes of the continent who are
essentially a genetic isolate with a small degree of Northern Eurasian admixture, being distantly
related to Finnic peoples. Forced cultural assimilation has greatly reduced their numbers in the
past few centuries, relegating them to small pockets of Fennoscandia. Have largely converted to
Lutheranism in recent years, although a small minority still practices traditional shamanism or
incorporates elements of this old practice and belong overwhelmingly to haplogroup N.
Numbering in the tens of thousands with a small diaspora in the US, Canada and regions with a
significant Scandinavian presence.

-Arabian: Standard Arabic-speaking inhabitants of the Arabian peninsula who have spread out
and conquered much of Asia and Africa, resulting in a pan-ethnic category of many assimilated
groups. Overwhelmingly adherents of Sunni Islam with a Shia minority and belong mostly to
haplogroup J1. Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in the Western World,
Iran, South/Southeast Asia and the rest of the Arab World.

-Egyptian: Arabic-speaking inhabitants of Egypt who were conquered and assimilated into the
Islamic Arab world very shortly after the death of Muhammad. Considered themselves to be
ethnically distinct from Arabs up until the mid 20th century with the rise of Nasser and
pan-Arabism. Overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims and are split between haplogroups J2, E3b1 and
R. Numbering nearly a hundred million with a large diaspora in other parts of the Arab world and
in the West.

-Maghrebi: Arabic-speaking inhabitants of the Maghreb who, like the Egyptians were conquered
and assimilated, yet due to their distance from the Arabian peninsula have remained even more
staunchly independent in their ethnic identity, still retaining the bulk of their native North African
Berber heritage, sometimes being branded as Arab-Berbers. Overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims
and mostly belonging to haplogroup E3b2 and J. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large
diaspora in Western Europe, particularly France, Benelux, Italy and Spain.

-Levantine: Arabized population of the Levant that is the result of Arab conquest of the region's
Phoenician, Syriac and Hellenic populations. Are closer genetically and culturally speaking to
peninsular Arabs than those in North Africa. Split between Sunni and Shia Muslims and belong
to haplogroups J1 and J2. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large diaspora in Turkey, the
Gulf Arabs states and Western Europe.

-Druze: Arabic-speaking ethno-religious population that practices a unique syncretic religion


with influence from Gnosticism, Islam, Christianity and many Eastern practices. Are a strictly
endogamous community who's lineages have remained closed for hundreds of years. Normally
remain a part of the ethno-religious community for life and belong mostly to haplogroups J and
E. Numbering near a million with a moderate diaspora in North America and Western Europe.

-Maronite: Arabic-speaking Eastern Catholic population of Lebanon and surrounding countries


in the Levant originally of Syriac origin, who had recently completely lost their Syriac language,
adopting the Arabic language, but have retained their Christian heritage and culture, with most
not considering themselves to be ethnically Arabs. Practitioners of Maronite Christianity in
Lebanon, while most immigrants to Latin America have adopted Roman Catholicism and mostly
belong to haplogroup J. Numbering several million full-blooded, with several million more of
partial descent in Latin America and the US, many more times the number of Maronites that
have remained in Lebanon.

-Syriac: Last of the non-Arabized, non-Jewish Semitic peoples of the Levant including the

-Melkite: Christian Arabic-speakers of the Levant (excluding Maronites) who may identify with
other Arab Levantines of the Islamic faith. Scattered throughout Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and
Palestine. Split between Eastern Catholic and Greek Orthodox and belong mostly to haplogroup
J. Numbering several million with an especially large diaspora in the Americas.

-Ashkenazi: Jews of Central/Eastern Europe who are the result of thousands of years of
migration and intermarriage in the continent who have significant Middle Eastern and European
ancestry. Numbers greatly reduced following the Holocaust, though have somewhat recovered
following the establishment of Israel. The most secular Jewish group, although the most
numerous and belong mostly to haplogroup J. Numbering nearly ten million, mostly in the
United States, Israel and scattered throughout Latin America and Europe.

-Sephardi: Jews of Southern Europe and North Africa, who similarly have large degrees of
admixture and assimilation in their host countries, with many being exiled out of Iberia in the
15th century to other parts of the Mediterranean. More religious than Ashkenazi Jews and are
split between haplogroups J and R. Numbering a couple million, mostly in Israel, France, the US
and Latin America.

-Mizrahi: Jews of the Middle East and Central Asia who have faced one of the largest and most
thorough purges of any region since the 1960's, with virtually the entire community fleeing to
Israel following Arab-Israeli hostilities. The most religious of all Jewish ethnic divisions and
belong mostly to haplogroup J and E. Numbering a few million nearly all in Israel, although small
minorities still exist in some Islamic countries such as Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, even if near
entirely evacuated from the Arab world.

-Israeli: Jewish Israelis of mixed ethnic origins, with intermarriage between the three main
divisions of Ashkenazi, Mizrahi and Sephardi becoming increasingly common, especially in the
younger generation. Intermarriage with the Beta Israel of Ethiopian origin still remains in the
single digits. Religiosity greatly varies and belong mostly to haplogroup J. Numbering possibly in
the millions with a backwards migration to parts of Europe or the Americas.

-Berber: Native Afro-Asiatic peoples of the Maghreb who have genetic and cultural ties to
Europe, West Africa and the Middle East and although near universally Islamized, they retained
their native Amazigh culture and language. Overwhelmingly Islamic with a small, but growing
Christian minority and belong mostly to haplogroup E3b2. Numbering in the tens of millions with
a large diaspora in Western Europe.

-Tuareg: Another Afro-Asiatic people of Northwest Africa located further South than other
Berber peoples, and phenotype and genetic makeup is highly variable with some having more
Eurasian or African DNA. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belonging mostly to haplogroup E3b2.
Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora in West Africa and the Middle East.

-Siwa: Easternmost Berber population that remained heavily isolated from other populations and
hence have a quite unique culture, language and gene pool. Overwhelmingly Islamic and
belong primarily to haplogroup E3b2 and R. Numbering in the tens of thousands with no major
diaspora due to their isolation in the Siwa and Gara oases.

-Coptic: Arabic-speaking Christians of Egypt who retained their Christian religion, unique
heritage and Coptic language (up until recently) with Coptic remaining the liturgical language up
to the present day. Unlike many Muslim Egyptians, universally do not consider themselves to be
Arabs instead claiming heritage from the ancient Egyptians. Largely an ethno-religious
community and belonging to haplogroups J, R and E3b1. Numbering over ten million with a
moderate diaspora in the US and Europe.

-Persian: Persian, Tajik and Dari-speaking populations throughout the Iranian plateau, with the
Eastern branch having minor Central Asian admixture from proximity to the Turkic Muslims of
Central Asia. Were one of the first populations to be Islamized following the Muslim conquests,
and despite having a large Arab influence, have retained their ancient Iranian culture.
Overwhelmingly Shia Islam, with a small Bahai and Zoroastrian minority, with conversion to
Christianity to irreligion being common among Western immigrants and belonging mostly to
haplogroup J2 and R1a in the East. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large diaspora in
Northern America, Western Europe and the Gulf Arab states.

-Ossetian: Last of the Scythian peoples, an Iranian population somewhat intermediate between
Eastern Europeans and Northern Middle Easterners. Although largely Christianized into the
Orthodox church, a very large minority adhering to the native Ossetian religion exist and they
belong mostly to haplogroup G. Numbering near a million people with a moderate diaspora in
Turkey and the remainder of the former USSR.

-Parsi: Iranian-descended population of Zoroastrian refugees from Persia to South Asia


following the Islamic conquest who have become a highly endogamous ethno-religious
community, although strong genetic ties on the maternal side to native Indo-Aryans has been
discovered. Mostly English-speaking, highly-educated, elite minority in major cities of the
Western coast, although population is rapidly shrinking. Conversion to other religions and
intermarriage not unheard of in recent years, and belong primarily to haplogroup J2. Numbering
near a hundred thousand with a large diaspora in the Anglosphere and former British colonies.

-West Iranic: Iranian-speaking population on the far Western side of the spectrum including
Kurds, Lurds and Zazakis, split between the countries of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey, who,
although not having strictly the same linguistic origins, have gained a large degree of shared
culture and identity. Mostly Islamic (split between Sunni, Shia and Alevi) with a large minority
practicing the syncretic religion of Yarsanism and a smaller minority practicing Yazidism, an
ancient Gnostic religion with conversion to Christianity not being uncommon in the Western
World and belong mostly to haplogroup J2. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large
diaspora in Western Europe and the US.

-East Iranic: Iranian-speaking population on the far Eastern side, who again do not share a
common linguistic origin, yet are very closely related genetically and culturally speaking, having
a high degree of overlap with South Asian Indo-Aryan populations and include the Baloch and
Pashtuns of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belonging to haplogroups
R1a and J. Numbering in the tens of millions with a large diaspora in India, the Gulf Arab states,
the US, Canada and Western Europe.

-Caspian: Iranian-speaking population in the North bordering the Caspian Sea, who do share a
common linguistic, genetic and cultural origin and commonalities and include groups like the
Gilakis, Tats and Mazanderani. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong mostly to haplogroup J.
Numbering in the millions with a moderate diaspora in the Western world and other parts of the
Middle East.

-Turkic: Speakers of various Oghuz Turkic languages of the Middle East including Turkish,
Azeri, Qashqai and Turcomen of Iraq and Syria who, although containing minor admixture from
Central Asia and the Balkans, have a gene pool and culture tied predominately to other Middle
Eastern people. Highly diverse genetic population. Overwhelmingly Islamic, split between Sunni,
Shia and Alevi with a growing irreligious minority and belong mostly to haplogroup J2.
Numbering several tens of millions with a very large diaspora in Western Europe, Australia and
the United States.

-Kipchak: Descendants of the Kipchak peoples in the Eurasian steppes who predate the
Islamization of most Turkic groups, who are of mixed European, North Asian and Middle
Eastern ancestry and include the Kumyks, Crimean Tatars and Karachay peoples of the
Caucasus and Crimean peninsula. Crimean Tatars are believed to have absorbed many
Crimean Goths, Greeks and Armenians during their rule in the region. Overwhelmingly Islamic
and belonging mostly to haplogroup J2. Numbering over a million with a truly large, but difficult
to ascertain number in the diaspora in Turkey and the Middle East.

-Kouloughli: Descendants of primarily North African women and Turkish soldiers stationed in the
Ottoman Empire's North African colonies of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, who although
mostly speaking Arabic and largely assimilated into Maghrebi culture retain a distinct identity
and acknowledgment of their heritage. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belonging mostly to
haplogroups J and E3b2. Numbering in the millions with an unknown diaspora in Western
Europe and the rest of the Middle East.

-Caucasian: Speakers of the Eastern and Western Caucasian language families, which are
believed to be related, yet are still quite distinct due to the divisive nature of the Caucasian
mountain range and include groups like the Dagestanis, Chechens and Circassians, with many
being forcibly expelled to the Middle East following the conquest by the Russians and
Cossacks. Overwhelmingly Islamic with a small paganistic minority and belong to haplogroups J
and G. Numbering several million, with a huge diaspora in the Middle East and especially
Turkey, many of which have been partially assimilated into the dominant Turkish majority.

-Georgian: Group inhabiting the Caucasian region, genetically, and possibly linguistically related
to the Caucasian language group. Mostly Orthodox Christian with a large Muslim minority and
belong mostly to haplogroup G. Numbering several million with a large diaspora in Turkey, Iran
and the rest of the Middle East.

-Armenian: Indo-European group inhabiting the Caucasus, yet are distinct from Indo-Iranian
groups, and were one of the first groups to adopt Christianity very shortly after the crucifixion of
Christ. Genocide in the 20th century purged most Armenians of Anatolia. Mostly Orthodox
Christian with a large Catholic and Protestant minority in the diaspora and belong mostly to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering several million with a large diaspora in the rest of the Middle East,
Russia, Western Europe and the US outnumbering those in Armenia many times over.

-Sudanese: Arabic-speaking population of Sudan and Chad who are the result of Arab invasions
from Egypt and the Arabian peninsula yet retain a high degree of Sub-Saharan African DNA
through the Arabized Cushites and Nilotes inhabiting this region previously. Overwhelmingly
Islamic belong mostly to haplogroups E3b1, J and R. Numbering in the tens of millions with a
large diaspora in the rest of the Middle East and Western Europe.

-Mauritanian: Arabic-speaking population of Mauritania and Western Sahara of varying degrees


of Berber and West African admixture. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belonging mostly to
haplogroup E3b2. Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora in other regions of North
Africa and the Western World.

-Japonic: Speakers of the Japonic languages of the archipelago that are the result of many
waves of migrants over thousands of years. Conquered much of Asia and the Pacific in the 20th
century, although nearly the entire colonial population in these countries were repatriated.
Largely irreligious, but are traditionally practitioners of Mahayana Buddhism and/or Shintoism
and belong to haplogroups O2b, O3e and D2. Numbering over a hundred million with a
moderate diaspora in the US, Brazil and increasingly Southeast Asia.

-Korean: Highly homogenized ethnic population inhabited the Korean peninsula as well as
Northeast China mainly divided between North and South Korea. Divided between a large
irreligious population, Christianity, Mahayana Buddhism and traditional Korean Shamanism and
belong to haplogroup O3e. Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in the US
and other parts of Asia.

-Mongolic: Many diverse populations speaking dialects of many mutually unintelligible


languages, but fall under the banner of Mongol. Had previously went on to conquer nearly the
entirety of Eurasia in the world's largest contiguous land empire with large influence on many
regions of Asia. Mostly Vajrayana Buddhism with a large irreligious minority and belong mostly
to haplogroup C3. Numbering several million with a large diaspora throughout the PRC and
Russia.

-Tuvan: Turkic-speaking Siberian population in the Russian Far East that has been very heavily
influenced by the neighboring Mongols. Mostly adhere to Vajrayana Buddhism and belong
mostly to haplogroup C3. Numbering several hundred thousand with a small diaspora in
Mongolia and throughout Russia.

-Manchurian: Tungusic-speaking people of Northeast China, who had gained immense power
after establishing the Manchu-backed Qing Dynasty, although have largely lost their ethnic
identity following the Japanese invasions and Civil Wars, with there being very few native
speakers of Manchu remaining. Mostly irreligious or follow traditional religions and belong
mostly to haplogroup O3e. Numbering over 10 million with a small diaspora in Taiwan and in
other areas with a large Han population.

-Turanid: Turkic-speaking Central Asians that are a result of Turkic and Mongolian migrants
mixing with the native Scythian and Tocharian population of intermediate European/Near East
origin, and hence are a highly admixed, heterogeneous population. Overwhelmingly Islamic and
are split between haplogroups C3, Q2 and R1a. Numbering in the tens of millions with a
moderate diaspora in the Middle East, Russia and parts of the PRC.

-Hazara: Similar Central Asian peoples of mixed Turkic, Mongol and Scythian extraction
speaking a Turkic-influenced dialect of the Persian language. Overwhelmingly adhere to Shia
Islam and belong predominantly to haplogroup C3. Numbering in the millions with a large
diaspora in Iran, Pakistan and the US.

-North Han: Han Chinese, Mandarin-speaking inhabitants in the Northern half of China. Mostly
irreligious with a minority adhering to traditional Chinese ethnic religions and belong mostly to
haplogroup O3e. Numbering near a billion people with a large diaspora all over the world.

-South Han: Chinese inhabitants residing in the Southern provinces of the PRC as well as
Taiwan, who are more similar in appearance, mannerisms and culture with Southeast Asians
than their Northern counterparts due to admixture, and assimilation of other groups. Distinctions
between Northern and Southern Han are less pronounced these days due to the urbanization of
China. Mostly adhere to traditional ethnic religions with a small Christian minority and belong
mostly to haplogroup O1. Numbering in the hundreds of millions with a large diaspora in Africa
and the Americas.

-Southeast Asian Han: Descendants of Chinese migrants from within the past thousand years to
the present day that have formed a somewhat cohesive community in many Southeast Asian
countries, most notably, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Although they have remained
largely endogamous through the centuries, extensible intermarriage has occurred with the
natives of Southeast Asia and hence many may no longer speak Chinese languages, having
mostly assimilated, with Singapore and Malaysia being the most noteworthy exceptions.
Belonging to haplogroups O1 or O3 and predominantly Buddhist, with a very large Christian and
irreligious minority. Numbering in the tens of millions today with a very large diaspora outside of
Southeast Asia, especially Australia and America.

-Hui: Chinese-speaking Muslims who are the result of trade and contact through the Silk Road
with Iranian, Arab and Turkic travelers. Have minor admixture from these groups as well.
Overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims, but maintain a separate identity from other Turkic Muslims such
as the Uyghur and belong mostly to haplogroup O. Numbering over ten million with a small
diaspora in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

-Yakut: Turkic-speaking group in Northern Siberia in Russia inhabiting a large segment of land
who managed to be one of the few Siberian ethnic groups to survive the Russian expansion
East. Mostly Orthodox Christian or traditional Shamans and belong mostly to haplogroup N3.
Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a minor diaspora in Northern America.

-Chukchi: Native Siberian group in the far Eastern corner of the continent of Eurasia with many
genetic and cultural similarities to Amerindians. Mostly adhering to native ethnic religions or
Orthodox Christianity and belong to haplogroup N3. Numbering only a few tens of thousands
with no major diaspora.

-Tungusic: Tungusic-speaking Siberians in Northern China and scattered throughout the


Russian Far East and include groups like the Evenks and Evens. Mostly Shamanists or
Orthodox Christians and belong mostly to haplogroup C3e. Numbering near a hundred
thousand with a small diaspora in the rest of China and Russia.

-Ainu: Very distinct ancient group in the Far Northeast of Eurasia on the islands of Sakhalin,
Hokkaido, Kuril and formerly Northern Honshu, although many have been assimilated by the
dominant Yamato in Japan. Their unique phenotype had lead many early anthropologists to
conclude a European origin, but genetic studies prove a closer relation to Siberians and East
Asians. Mostly adhere to traditional folk religions with a small Buddhist, Shinto and Christian
minority and belong to haplogroup D2. Numbering in the tens of thousands with many hundreds
of thousands more of partial ancestry, but no significant diaspora.
-Bolgar: Turkic-speaking inhabitants of the Eurasian steppes of Russia and Kazakhstan
including the Volga Tatars and Bashkirs, who, similarly to the Turanids of Central Asia have
various amounts of Eastern Eurasian admixture, but have larger amounts of Western Eurasian
DNA. Mostly Islamic with a large irreligious and Christian minority and belong mostly to
haplogroup R1b and R1a. Numbering in the millions with a large diaspora in Central Asia,
elsewhere in the former USSR and Turkey.

-Volgaic: Uralic-speaking inhabitants of the Volga region in Russia on the Eurasian steppes who
are of mixed Eastern and Western Eurasian DNA and include such groups as the Mari and
Mordvins. Mostly Orthodox Christian with a traditional pagan minority and belong mostly to
haplogroup R1a. Numbering nearly 2 million with a small diaspora in the rest of the former
USSR.

-Samoyedic: Northern and Eastern-most Uralic-speaking group in Northern Siberia in Russia


who are mostly of Eastern Eurasian ancestry. Mostly traditional shamanists or Orthodox
Christians and belong to haplogroup N2. Numbering in the tens of thousands with no major
diaspora.

-Vietic: Northwestern Austroasiatic peoples of Indochina who have been heavily influenced by
both ancient Chinese and Indian civilizations. Mostly irreligious or belonging to traditional ethnic
religions with a large Buddhist and Christian minority and belong primarily to haplogroup O2a.
Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in the United States and the rest of the
Western World.

-Mon-Khmer: Somewhat archaic grouping of the Khmer and Mon ethnic groups of the
Austroasiatic family who are noteworthy for having far more Indic influence than the Vietnamese
to the East. Are overwhelmingly Theravada Buddhists belonging mostly to haplogroup O2a.
Numbering over ten million with a moderate diaspora in the US.

-Khasi: Westernmost Austroasiatic group living in Northeast India in the state of Meghalaya,
who have a moderate degree of Tibetic and Indic admixture from proximity and intermarriage.
Mostly Protestant with a Catholic minority and belong to haplogroup O2a. Numbering over a
million with a small diaspora in other areas of Indian settlement.

-Formosan: Native inhabitants of the island of Formosa, now referred to as Taiwanese


Aborigines, who were largely displaced to the mountainous in the interior of the island. Were the
original Austronesian population who migrated en mass to maritime Southeast Asia giving birth
to the modern Austronesian nations. A significant percentage of Han Chinese in Taiwan have
partial Formosan ancestry. Mostly Christian with a large animist and Buddhist minority and
belong mostly to haplogroup O1. Numbering near half a million with no major diaspora, but all
Austronesian-speakers throughout the world have roots with this group.

-Philippine: Speakers of the Philippine branch of the Austronesian family who share a common
culture, although in the Philippines, there has been large influence from hundreds of years of
Spanish rule, nearly a thousand years of Chinese trade and settlement and another half century
of American rule. Inhabiting most of the Philippines along with North Kalimantan and North
Sulawesi. Mostly Catholic with a moderate Protestant and Islamic minority in the South and
predominantly belong to haplogroup O1. Numbering nearing a hundred million with a huge
diaspora in the United States.

-Malayan: Austronesian-speaking inhabitants of most of the Malay archipelago who have a


large amount of genetic diversity due to being spread out over many isolated islands and large
distances. Trade with Arabs has largely Islamized the previously Buddhist and Hindu inhabitants
of this group. Mostly Islamic with a small Christian and Hindu minority and belong mostly to
haplogroups O2a and O3. Numbering over a hundred million with a moderate diaspora in the
Americas, Australia and elsewhere.

-Tibetic: Northern half of the Tibeto-Burman family related to the Sinitic family. Have significant
influence from neighboring Indian groups. Mostly adherents of Vajrayana Buddhism with a few
Muslim, Christian and ethno-religious groups and belong mostly to haplogroup D2. Numbering
over 10 million mostly located in China, Nepal, Kashmir and Northeast India with a small
diaspora in the US.

-Burmic: Southern half of the Tibeto-Burman family that are the result of early tribes from the
North migrating into modern Burma and assimilating the already established Austroasiatic
population, with appearance being highly variable. Mostly Theravada Buddhist with a large
Christian minority in the North on the Burmese-Indian border mostly belonging to haplogroup
O2a. Numbering in the tens of millions with a moderate diaspora in the rest of Southeast Asia
and the US.

-Tai-Kadai: Result of mass immigration of ancient Tai migrants from modern Southwest China
into Indochina, assimilating the previous Mon-Khmer population, with a large population
throughout Southeast Asia. Mostly Theravada Buddhist, with traditional religions still common in
the North and belong mostly to haplogroup O2a and O1. Numbering near a hundred million
people with a moderate diaspora in the US and other areas of the Western world.

-Hmong-Mien: Speakers of the Hmong-Mien language family who are scattered throughout
many areas of Mainland Southeast Asia, possibly related to Tai or Austroasiatic groups. Mostly
adherents of traditional animistic religions, with a very large Christian presence in the overseas
diaspora and belong mostly to haplogroup O3d. Numbering over ten million with a moderate
diaspora in the US.

-Beja: Northern-most branch of the Cushitic language family, lying mostly on the Red Sea coast
of Sudan and Egypt. Overwhelmingly Islamic split between haplogroups J1 and E3b. Numbering
a couple million with a small diaspora in North Africa.
-Cushitic: Major Horn African people of mixed Sub-Saharan African and Eurasian origin who
have developed a unique genepool and phenotype over the millennium. Inhabit as far South as
small pockets in Tanzania and Tutsis in the Great Lakes region have partial ancestry. Split
between Muslims and Orthodox Christians and belonging to the E3b haplogroup. Numbering in
the tens of millions with a moderate diaspora in Northern Europe and the US.

-Habesha: Another major Horn African group similar in composition to the Cushites, although
with more recent ancestry from the Middle East as their languages are of the Semitic branch
and the result of ancient migration from the Arabian peninsula. Mostly Orthodox Christian and
Muslim, being split between haplogroups E3b and J1. Numbering in the tens of millions with a
moderate diaspora in Europe and the United States.

-Omotic: Basal Horn African group with less Eurasian admixture than other Horn African groups
lying mostly in Southwest Ethiopia. Mostly Protestant while belonging to the E3b haplogroup.
Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora with areas of other Horn African settlement.

-Beta Israel: Jewish group from the Horn of Africa, most likely the product of the intermixing of
Jewish migrants to Ethiopia and Nilotic peoples. Adhere to Judaism, mostly belong to
haplogroup A, which reflects their Nilo-Saharan origin, as opposed to a Cushitic one. Numbering
over a hundred thousand with a small diaspora in the US.

-Chadic: Afro-Asiatic speakers ironically lying mostly to the West of Chad, in Niger and Nigeria.
Ex. Hausa. Predominantly Islamic, the only African population to belong to haplogroup R1b,
most likely due to a small group of ancestors from the prehistoric Middle East, although Chadic
peoples are also closely related to Nilo-Saharan peoples. Mostly Islamic with a Christian
minority and belong mostly to R1b. Numbering in the tens of millions with a moderate diaspora
in other areas of Central and West Africa.

-Nilotic: Ancient population of Africans who have a number of unique qualities, including being
the tallest, thinnest, darkest and consequentially, some of the most athletically competitive
people on Earth, inhabiting a band stretching from Sudan to Tanzania. Small group is believed
to have been absorbed by the Tutsi of the Great Lakes region. Mostly Christian nowadays with
a large minority still following animistic religions and belong mostly to haplogroups A3 and E2.

-Maasai: Southernmost Nilotic sub-group located in Tanzania and Kenya with significant Bantu
and Cushitic admixture, so much so, that they are sometimes considered to be a Horn African
population by some. Mostly Christian or Animist and belong predominately to haplogroup E3a.
Numbering a couple million with a small diaspora in the US.

-Nubian: Northernmost Nilo-Saharan group in Northern Sudan and Southern Egypt, who were
previously one of the oldest Christian Empires in the world, although following the Arab
invasion, the bulk of the community was Arabized and even non-Arabized Nubians have a large
degree of Middle Eastern/North African admixture. Overwhelmingly Islamic while belonging
mostly to haplogroup J. Numbering over a million with a small diaspora in other parts of the
Middle East and North Africa.

-Sudanic: Eastern half of the Nilo-Saharan family that do not have the same phenotypic
identifiers of the Nilotes, with a highly variable range of appearance and genetics. Ironically live
mostly in neighboring Chad. Mostly Islamic with a small Christian minority and belong mostly to
haplogroup E3a. Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora throughout Africa.

-West Nigritic: Western half of the Niger-Congo speaking population of West Africa inhabiting
Senegal to Mali to Guinea. Almost all are adherents to Islam with a small Christian and animist
minority and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering in the tens of millions with a small
diaspora in other parts of Africa and the Western world.

-East Nigritic: Eastern half of the Niger-Congo speaking population of West Africa inhabiting
Southern Liberia to Burkina Faso to Nigeria. Split between Muslims and Christians with a small
animist minority and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering over a hundred million with a
moderate diaspora throughout Africa and the Western world, with the bulk of the Black
American gene pool having originating from this group.

-Banda: Intermediate Niger-Congo population in between Bantus and West Africans who don't
fall into one category or the other centered on the Central African Republic. Split between
Christians and Muslims and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering several million with a
small diaspora in other areas of Africa.

-Bantu: Somewhat united African group that originated after a gradual wave of migration from
Cameroon around two millennia ago throughout the bulk of Sub-equatorial Africa, assimilating
the indigenous inhabitants from South Africa to Kenya. Mostly Christian with a large minority
professing Islam or traditional animist beliefs and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering
in the hundreds of millions with a moderate diaspora in the Western World.

-Lemba: Niger-Congo speaking group in Southern Africa of Bantu origin who claim descent from
an ancient Jewish tribe, and although significant Middle Eastern ancestry has been found in this
group, the Jewish claims remain unfounded. Mostly adherents of a syncretic blend of Judaism
and Christianity and belong to haplogroup J or E3a. Numbering in the tens of thousands with a
small diaspora in other parts of Africa.

-Khoi: Ancient racial group inhabiting Southern Africa and formerly a much larger area before
Bantu migrations limited this group to it's current state. Most genetically distinct human
population due to their isolation. Mostly Christian with a large animist minority and belong to
haplogroup A. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with the bulk of the Cape Coloured and
Xhosa ethnicities having significant admixture with no real diaspora.
-San: Another branch of the Khoisan family, who are genetically related to the Khoi, yet
linguistically retain few similarities. Grouped together mostly for convenience. Mostly Christian
with a large animist minority and belong to haplogroup A. Numbering nearly a hundred thousand
with no real diaspora.

-Hadza: Ancient hunter-gatherer indigenous people of Tanzania, who are believed to be


distantly related to the Khoi and San due to the sharing of click consonants in their language,
but it is clear they have remained genetically isolated for tens of thousands of years. Mostly
adhere to traditional ethnic religions and Christianity and belong mostly to haplogroup B2.
Number only around 1,000 with no diaspora.

-Sandawe: Another hunter-gatherer indigenous population of Tanzania also believed to be


related to the Hadza or Khoi due to their sharing of click consonants. Mostly practice traditional
ethnic religions and belong to haplogroup E3a and E3b. Number several tens of thousands with
no diaspora.

-Pygmy: Indigenous population of Central Africa that are extremely genetically distinct from
Bantus and other Niger-Congo speakers, yet have adopted Bantu languages following the
expansion two thousand years ago. Live in clusters scattered in the Eastern and Western
Congo. Mostly Christian with a large degree of animist influence still present and belong to
haplogroup B2. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands, although extreme violence has
adversely affected this community.

-Anglo-Caribbean: African-descended English-speaking people of the Caribbean from Jamaica,


Barbados, Trinidad, the Bahamas and on the mainland of Central America. Major admixture
from English, Irish, sometimes native Taino sources. Mostly Christian with a large irreligious
minority and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering in the millions with a large diaspora
in Latin America, the US, Canada and the UK.

-Dutch-Caribbean: African-descended Dutch-speaking people of the Caribbean in St. Martin,


Suriname and the ABC islands. Minor Dutch or other European and Amerindian admixture.
Mostly Christian with a small irreligious minority and belong mostly to haplogroup E3a.
Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in the US and Netherlands.

-Hispanic-Caribbean: African-descended Spanish-speaking people of the Hispanic Caribbean


with around a 10-15% distribution in both Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Major
Spanish and native Taino admixture. Mostly Catholic with a huge minority incorporating
elements of traditional African religions into their practices and belong mostly to haplogroup
E3a. Numbering in the millions with a large diaspora in the United States.

-Franco-Caribbean: African-descended French-speaking people of the Caribbean mostly on


Haiti, the Western half of the island Hispaniola. Very small amount of European and Taino
admixture (less than 5%). Mostly Catholic, nominally speaking, although a huge percentage
incorporate Voodoo practices into their everyday lives and a small Protestant minority and
belong mostly to haplogroup E3a. Numbering over ten million with a large diaspora in the United
States.

-Gullah: African-descended Creole-speaking group on the Southeast coast of the United States
who have a culture very closely-related to that of Afro-Caribbean groups and that of their native
Africa. European admixture is also far less common than in Black Americans (<10% vs 25%).
Mostly Christian and belonging to haplogroup E3a. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands
with a large diaspora throughout the US, especially New York.

-Maroon: Descendants of escaped African slaves who took refuge in the interiors of various
European-owned territories around the Caribbean such as Jamaica and the Guianas. Are the
closest to a tribe of New World full-blooded Africans, usually near 100%, with a very strong
African cultural identity. Mostly speak English-based Creole languages loosely related to each
other. Mostly followers of indigenous African religions or Christianity and belong to haplogroup
E3a. Numbering in the tens of thousands with no major diaspora.

-Black American: Descendants of slaves brought to the United States from various regions of
Africa, but predominantly the West and Central Coasts, who fused into a single culture and
identity over the generations. Mostly Christian with an irreligious minority and very small minority
of converts to Islam or other religions and are split between haplogroups E3a and R1b due to a
moderate amount of European (20-25%) and Amerindian (~1-2%) admixture. Numbering in the
tens of millions with a moderate diaspora in regions with a large American presence.

-Krio: Descendants of freed slaves and free people of color brought back to Africa by the
American Colonial Society under James Monroe, mostly the countries of Liberia and Sierra
Leone (despite most of their ancestry originating in Nigeria) and established their own countries.
As the dominant minority, these groups came into conflict with the indigenous peoples, which
came to a head and civil war near the end of the 20th century. Mostly Christian with a small
Muslim minority and belong to haplogroups E3a and R1b. Numbering in the hundreds of
thousands with a moderate diaspora (ironically enough) back in the US.

-Afro-Hispanic: African-descended people of Hispanic American countries on the mainland of


the Americas who draw ancestry more heavily from Central Africa than Black Americans. Have
varying degrees of European and Amerindian admixture depending on the country and region.
Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant minority and belong to haplogroups E3a and R1b.
Numbering near ten million (definition and estimates varies by country) and have a moderate
diaspora in the United States.

-Afro-Brazilian: African-descended people of Brazil from West, Central and Southeast Africa
scattered throughout the country, but predominantly in the Northeast. Have very large degrees
of European and Amerindian admixture with some even having more European than African
DNA, but identify as Preta or Black due to the fluid nature of racial categorization in the country.
Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant and ethno-religious minority and belong to haplogroups
E3a and R1b. Numbering over ten million with a small diaspora in other regions of Latin
America and the United States.

-Swahili: Bantu-speaking population on the Eastern coast of Africa near the Great Lakes region
who are a result of millennia of Arab, Persian and, to a lesser extent, European and Asian,
trade, intermarriage and influence on the population. Despite becoming the lingua franca of East
Africa, the actual ethnic population or first language-speakers is relatively small.
Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong to haplogroups E3a and J. Numbering in the millions with a
moderate diaspora in other regions of Africa and the Middle East.

-Zanj: African-descended people of North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia who are
mostly the result of the Arab, Persian and later Ottoman slave trades that brought many groups
from all over Africa to this region. Have extremely high genetic and cultural variability but are
united under this common banner. Overwhelmingly Islamic and belong to haplogroups E3a, J or
E3b. Numbering in the millions with a small diaspora in the Western world.

-Afro-Mascarene: African-descended group of the Mascarene islands (Reunion, Mauritius,


Seychelles, Chagos) who are the descendants of slaves brought to these islands by the British
and French, yet are distinct from the more mixed race Creole population. May have significant
European, Malagasy or South Asian heritage. Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant minority
and belong to haplogroups E3a, R1b or O2a. Numbering around a hundred thousand with a
large diaspora in the Anglosphere.

-Eskimo-Aleut: Amerindian population in the far North of the American continents who are the
descendants of more recent migrants to the Americas across the Bering strait located in
Greenland, Northern Canada and Alaska. Scandinavian admixture in Greenland very common.
Mostly Christian with a moderate shamanist minority and belong to haplogroup Q1. Numbering
over a hundred thousand with a moderate diaspora in Denmark and the mainland United States.

-Na-Dene: Amerindian population in Northern Canada and parts of the United States that have
been relegated to small pockets due to migration from other parts of the world. Mostly Christian
with a large irreligious or shamanist minority and belong to haplogroup C3b. Numbering in the
hundreds of thousands with no real diaspora outside of the region.

-Plains: Remainder of Amerindian populations in Northern America, who are quite a diverse
(linguistically speaking) collection of ethnicities with their highest concentration in the American
prairie region. European admixture incredibly common Mostly Christian with a large irreligious
and Shamanist minority and belong to haplogroups Q3 and R1b (whether it be due to recent or
ancient European admixture is currently debated). Numbering in the millions with no major
diaspora.

-Meso: Amerindian groups from Northern Mesoamerica and include groups like the Nahuatl,
better known as the Aztecs. Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant and shamanist minority and
belong mostly to haplogroup Q3. Numbering possibly over ten million with a moderate diaspora
in the Southwest United States.

-Mayan: Indigenous people from Southern Mexico, Guatemala and Belize who have many
different cultures and languages which may or may not be mutually intelligible, but fall under the
same Mayan umbrella. Perhaps the best survived Amerindian population following European
contact. Mostly Catholic with a very large Protestant and Orthodox (interestingly enough)
minority and belong to haplogroup Q3. Numbering several million with a moderate diaspora in
the United States and other parts of Latin America.

-Chibchan: Speakers of the Chibchan language family which includes most Amerindian peoples
in the bulk of Central America and Northern Colombia. Mostly Christian with a shamanist
minority and belong to haplogroup Q3. Numbering around a million with no major diaspora.

-Amazonian: Amerindian groups from the Amazon basin region, encompassing a huge variety
of linguistic families and cultures, yet are demonstrably distinct from other Amerindians of South
America sharing certain phenotypic and genetic traits, and included the indigenous Taino
people of the Caribbean. Numbering over a million people with no real diaspora.

-Andean: Amerindian group scattered throughout the Andes mountain region stretching from
Southern Colombia to Northern Chile and although quite diverse, all share certain cultural
qualities. Include the ancient Incas who evolved into the Quechua and Aymara people seen in
the region today. Mostly Catholic with a large Protestant minority and belong to haplogroup Q3.
Numbering several million with a small diaspora in other regions of Latin America and the US.

-Patagonian: Amerindian group from the Southern Cone or Patagonia including groups like the
Mapuche among others. Mostly Christian with a large shamanist minority and belong to
haplogroup Q3. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with no real diaspora.

-Fuegian: Amerindian population descended from the first wave of migrants to the Americas,
having Eurasian and paleo-Australoid traits. Considerably tall with a plethora of unique
phenotypic traits including resistance to extreme cold, having lived in Southern Patagonia and
the island of Tierra del Fuego near Antarctica for over ten thousand years. Mostly Christian with
a large shamanist minority and belong to haplogroup Q3. Numbering only a few thousand with
no diaspora.

-Papuan: Original inhabitants of the island of New Guinea (Papua), Wallacea (Eastern
Indonesia) and the Melanesian islands and possibly Northern Australia in the past as well. Not a
single unified ethno-linguistic group, and in fact has one of the highest degrees of genetic and
linguistic diversity of any population on the planet due to the physiology of the island of New
Guinea. Nominally Christian, though in most of the interior traditional beliefs and traditions are
still practiced. Muslim Papuans do exist on the Indonesian side due to contact with Javanese.
Mostly belonging to haplogroups M and S.

-Aborigine: Indigenous inhabitants of the islands of Australia and Tasmania who have remained
the single most isolated population up until the 18th century. The group is still plagued by many
social problems to this day, especially alcoholism and substance abuse, which are widespread
in the Australian Outback. An unknown percentage (possibly a majority) of this group has
various degrees of European admixture and indigenous Tasmanians have gone completely
extinct. Mostly Christian with an irreligious minority and belong to haplogroup C4 and K.
Numbering no more than a few hundred thousand full-blooded individuals with no major
diaspora.

-Negrito: Recognized as the original people of the Philippine Islands, and this term is
occasionally used as an umbrella to describe all Australoid peoples of Southeast Asia. Currently
relegated to small numbers in the interior of various islands in the country, with a large number
of mixed race inhabitants as well, with all Negrito groups currently speaking an Austronesian
language due to cultural diffusion. Mostly Christian or animists and belong to haplogroups K or
C. Numbering around a hundred thousand with no major diaspora.

-Aslian: Indigenous group living deep within the interior of Peninsular Malaysia, speaking the
Aslian dialects of the Austro-Asiatic language family, who, although stemming from the same
base population as the Philippine Negritos (inhabitants of the former Sundaland), have become
quite genetically disparate over thousands of years of isolation. Mostly Christian with a Muslim
minority and belong to haplogroup O3. Numbering over a hundred thousand with no major
diaspora.

-Andamanese: Indigenous peoples of the Andaman islands who have remained genetically and
linguistically isolated for literal tens of thousands of years and hence are extremely physically
distinct, with distant genetic relations to Adivasis of mainland India and other Negritos of
Southeast Asia. Contact with Indians and Europeans devastated the population, primarily
through disease. Mostly adhere to traditional religions and belong to haplogroup D. No more
than a thousand full-blooded individuals remain with no known diaspora.

-Micronesian: Austronesian-speaking population of the Micronesian (lit. “small islands”) islands,


a small collection of islands scattered throughout the Pacific, and although there is considerable
diversity among this group, there culture and genetics are primarily derived from a fusion of
ancient Melanesian and Filipino migrants. Large amount of Japanese admixture in certain
islands from the Imperial Japanese era. Overwhelmingly Christian and belong mostly to
haplogroups K, O3 and C2. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a large diaspora in
the US.

-Polynesian: Austronesian-speakers of Polynesia scattered throughout the “Polynesian


Triangle” with New Zealand in the South, Hawaii in the North and Easter Island in the East, who
are predominately Eurasian, but have around 25-30% Papuan/Oceanian admixture. Foreign
admixture through European/Japanese/American occupation/immigration is extremely common.
Mostly Christian and belong to haplogroup C2 and O3. Numbering a couple million with a million
more of partial descent with a large diaspora in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

-Moluccan: Austronesian-speaking population in Eastern Indonesia, Timor and Northwest


Papua with considerable, but varying degrees of Papuan admixture seen in both appearance,
language and culture as Papuans and other Australo-Melanesians were the original inhabitants
of these islands. Split between Christianity and Islam and belong to haplogroup C2. Numbering
in the millions today with a sizeable diaspora in the Netherlands, America and Australia.

-Melanesian: Austronesian-speaking group on the fringes of New Guinea, and other island
nations in the Pacific with a relatively low level (<20%) of Eastern Eurasian admixture from
ancient migrations of the antecedents of the Polynesians and Micronesians, with the greatest
anthropomorphic affinity with Papuans, and Aborigines, albeit sharing culture and language with
the Austronesians. Some groups (Fijians) may have more Polynesian influence than other
Melanesians. Overwhelmingly Christian (Protestant to Catholic at a rate of 4:1), infused with
traditional beliefs, and mostly belonging to haplogroups K, M or S. Numbering in the millions
with a small diaspora in Australia and the US.

-African Creole: Various ethnic groups of mixed European, African and sometimes other
heritage that are the result of early intermarriage in countries such as South Africa, Cape Verde,
Mauritius and others. Have formed a cohesive community and ethnic identity over the
generations distinct from both parent groups, examples include Cape Coloureds, Cape
Verdeans and Mauritian/Seychellois/Réunionnais Creoles. Overwhelmingly Christian today
(various denominations) and predominately belong to haplogroup R1b. Numbering several
million and have large diasporas in the Americas along with their ancestral Western European
countries.

-Asian Creole: Various ethnic groups of mixed European and East, South and Southeast Asian
heritage as the result of intermarriage in the colonial Far East. Groups include Anglo-Indians,
Burghers, Macanese, Indos and Kristang. Mostly Christian with a small minority of the
indigenous religions of the region (Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism) and predominately belong to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering several million with a large diaspora in their ancestral European
countries along with the overseas Anglosphere especially.

-Pacific Creole: Various ethnic groups of mixed European, Pacific Islander, Asian and
occasionally Latin American heritage as the result of intermarriage in the colonial Pacific, the
United States, Australia and New Zealand. Groups include Hawaiian Hapas, Pitkern Islanders
and others. Overwhelmingly Christian and predominately belonging to haplogroup R1b.
Numbering several hundred thousand with a moderate diaspora in the mainland United States.

-Louisiana Creole: Mixed race group of mostly African descent, but with a significant amount of
French and Amerindian ancestry. Mostly Catholic and divided between the European R1b and
African E3a haplogroups due to European and African admixture. Numbering several hundred
thousand with large numbers in neighboring Texas and Mississippi.

-Castizo: Hispanic group inhabiting all areas of the Americas, but especially Northern Mexico
and the Southern Cone, and are of primarily European (Spanish) extraction, with around
10-30% admixture from Amerindian or African sources. Mostly Catholic while belonging to
haplogroup R1b. Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in the United States
and Spain.

-Northern Mestizo: Those of 40-60% European/Amerindian DNA in Mexico and Central


America, in addition to predominate Castilian and Mesoamerican DNA, significant admixture
from Sephardic Jews, Iberian Moors and minor admixture from Sub-Saharan Africans.
Overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, and belonging mostly to haplogroup R1b with a minority of
Q3. Numbering around a hundred million with a huge diaspora in the United States.

-Southern Mestizo: 40-60% European/Amerindian DNA in South America, might also have
Romani, Sephardic, Moorish and especially Basque ancestry. Overwhelmingly Roman Catholic,
and belonging to haplogroup R1b. Numbering several tens of millions with a large diaspora in
the US and a smaller diaspora in Spain and Europe.

-Paraguayan Mestizo: 40-60% European/Amerindian DNA in Paraguay, although usually leans


towards the higher end for European ancestry, with Paraguayan Mestizos being unique for
being bilingual in both Spanish and Guarani, with some exclusively speaking Guarani. Mostly
Roman Catholic, while also being noteworthy for having a more balanced distribution of
haplogroups R1b. Numbering in the millions with a large diaspora in Argentina and Brazil.

-Fuegian Mestizo: Group of mixed European and Fuegian Amerindian descent, often with Croat,
English, or other non-Spanish paternal ancestry. Not recognized as a separate population in
any census, yet are genetically and culturally significant. Presumably Catholic and most likely
belonging to the R1b haplogroup. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands in Argentina and
Chile.

-Metis: One of the oldest mixed race groups in Canada of paternal French and maternal
Amerindian ancestry in the Northern fringes of the country. Predominantly Catholic and
belonging to the R1b haplogroup. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a small
diaspora population in the United States.

-Dane-Inuit: People of mixed paternal Scandinavian and maternal Inuit descent making up a
large chunk of the Greenlandic population, mostly from the recent Danish colonial rule and
(perhaps more dubiously) from the old Viking settlements of Greenland who were believed to
have died out centuries ago. Overwhelmingly Protestant and belonging to the I1 haplogroup.
Numbering in the tens of thousands with a small diaspora in mainland Denmark.
-Hispanic-Mulatto: Mixed race people from Hispanic countries of approximately 50% European
and 50% African ancestry, although with small amounts of Amerindian input as well, scattered
throughout the American mainland. Predominantly Roman Catholic and belonging to the R1b
haplogroup. Numbering in the millions with a large diaspora on the Eastern coast of the United
States.

-Franco-Mulatto: Mixed race people of Haiti of French, Polish and African ancestry. Mostly
Roman Catholic and presumably of R1b and R1a haplogroups. Numbering in the hundreds of
thousands with a moderate minority in the United States.

-Anglo-Mulatto: Mixed race people of European and African ancestry from Anglo-American
countries with noteworthy Celtic and minor Indian ancestry. Mostly Protestant and Catholic while
belonging to the R1b haplogroup. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a moderate
minority in Northern America and England.

-Pardo: Second largest racial group in the country of Brazil representing a unique fusion of
Iberian, Amazonian and African genetics and culture with appearance and genetic makeup
extremely varying, but generally are around 50-60% European, 20-30% African and 10-20%
Amerindian. Make up the majority in most of Northern Brazil. Mostly Catholic with a large
Protestant and irreligious minority and belong to haplogroup R1b. Numbering several tens of
millions with a moderate diaspora in other regions of Latin America, the US and Portugal.

-Montubio: Ethnic category from the country of Ecuador consisting of a European/African and
Amerindian blend with a unique culture very distinct from other Latinos. Little is known in the
way of admixture or exact genetics. Mostly Catholic with a Protestant minority and belong to
haplogroups R1b and Q3. Numbering over a million with a small diaspora in the United States.

-Papiamento: Speakers of a unique creole language that is a blend of Portuguese, Spanish,


English, Dutch and Amerindian and African languages, which also reflects an ethnic population
that is a blend of all these racial groups as well located on the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and
Curacao). Mostly Catholic with a small Protestant and irreligious minority and belong mostly to
haplogroups R1b, E3a and Q3. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a large diaspora
in the Netherlands and the United States.

-Hispanic-Zambo: Zambo, meaning African and Amerindian mix who have no specific ethnic
identity, but are located in Hispanic countries, mostly as the descendants of escaped slaves and
local Amerindian populations, who have been completely Hispanicized in the present day. Are
concentrated in Colombia, Peru, Panama and Bolivia. Mostly Catholic with a Protestant minority
and belong to haplogroups E3a or Q3. Numbering possibly over a million with a moderate
diaspora in the US.

-Anglo-Zambo: African and Amerindian mix belonging to specific ethnic groups such as the
Miskito and Garifuna who have a long history with the British and hence are more Anglicanized
than others in the same region of Central America. Admixture rates vary from 40-70% African,
with moderate amounts of European ancestry as well. Mostly Christian with an animist minority
and belong to haplogroups E3a or Q3. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands with a
moderate minority in other regions of Latin America and the US.

-Dougla: Racial group that is the result of intermixing between South Asians and Africans in the
Caribbean region, although the term is occasionally used to describe any of mixed race in the
Trinidad./Guiana region. May also have European, Amerindian, Chinese or other heritage as
well. Mostly Christian with a Hindu or Muslim minority and belong mostly to haplogroups R1a, H,
E3a or R1b. Numbering nearly a hundred thousand with a small diaspora in the US, UK and
Canada.

-Malagasy: Peoples of Madagascar, of Austronesian and Bantu origin, with small amounts of
admixture from Arab, Indian, Chinese and European sailors around the coast. Mostly Catholic,
although syncretism with the indigenous Malagasy religion is not uncommon, being split
between haplogroups E3a and O1. Numbering in the tens of millions with a very small diaspora
in France and the United States.

-Other: Any other multiracial combination not elsewhere mentioned that does not belong to a
specific ethnic community and has no specific ethnic identity. Could have a wide variety of
ancestries from any racial group with European/African, European/East Asian,
European/Southeast Asian and European/South Asian being increasingly common in the
Western World. Could be of any religious belief and any have any haplogroup. Numbering in the
tens of millions and scattered throughout the world with no one area having a particularly high
concentration.
