All openings in heat exchangers are suitably protected to prevent API 660 Para.

Connections that are bevelled for welding are suitably covered to API 660 Para.

Flanged connections and all other machined surfaces are protected


by use of an appropriate lubricant with rust preventive compound 32-SAMSS-007

such as Cortec VpCI-369 or equivalent. 11.1.15

Flanged connections and all other machined surfaces are:


a) fitted with a steel or wood cover, 3 mm thick and neoprene gasket.

b) bolted in place with a minimum of 4 bolts equally spaced and

c) Bolts are protected from external corrosion by a rust preventive
grease or equivalent substance liberally applied over the bolt surface.
d) Flanges with permanent blind flanges are secured with the
gaskets and bolting specified for service.

Threaded nozzle connections are protected with threaded plugs and


by the use of an appropriate lubricant with rust preventive compound 32-SAMSS-007
B5 such as Cortec VpCI-369 or equivalent, Tell-tale holes are protected 11.1.13 and 11.1.
with wooden plugs or packed with rust preventative grease such as 14
Denso paste.

Verify that the internal surfaces of the exchanger is protected from

B6 corrosion by use of a non-toxic vapor phase corrosion inhibitor such

Verify that the shell and external surfaces are protected by preparing

Metallic covers are installed enabling a vapor tight seal to make the

in a 4-mil thick anticorrosion polyethylene film containing vapor Para. 11.1.19.3
phase corrosion inhibitor such as Cortec VpCI 126 Blue or
equivalent.

Tube bundles shipped seperately are adequately protected and


supported to prevent mechanical and corrosion damage. (Tube
internals shall be protected using Cortec VpCI-307 or VpCI-309 or 32-SAMSS-007

equivalent (as detailed in Paragraph 11.1.19.1). External surfaces 11.1.19.4
shall be protected by spraying with Cortec VpCI 368 or Tectyl 506 or
equivalent).

Nitrogen blanketing with temporary rust preventive substance such


as MIL-C-16173 Grade IV (Tectyl 846) or a vapor proof bag with

B11 moisture control been used for carbon and low chrome alloy steels

Nitrogen blanketing at a pressure of 35 kPa (5 psi) is provided for


components that were not protected properly by the use of vapor 32-SAMSS-007

phase inhibitor due to inaccessible difficulties such as shell's internal 11.1.22
surface for fixed tubesheet heat exchangers.

Temporary internal coatings for use on exchangers with corrosion


32-SAMSS-007
B14 resistant linings (such as stainless steel and Monel clad) are chloride

free.

Martensitic stainless steels such as Type 410 and Type 420 are
particularly prone to atmospheric corrosion especially when shipped 32-SAMSS-007

by sea. The Manufacturer has prepared a preservation and shipping 11.1.25
plan that was approved by CSD.

Bolt heads / Spare Bolts are protected with a rust preventative 32-SAMSS-007
B16 compound to prevent corrosion during shipment, storage and 11.1.27 and
construction. 11.1.28

Data concerning handling, storage and preservation are included on Shedule "Q"
B17 the Monthly Materials Procurement Status Report as specified in attachment IV,
Schedule "G" Para. 6
REMARKS:

Notes: Checklist items listed as "Best Practice" are recommendations only. These items shall be subject to concurrence by Contractor,
SAPMT & Insp . Once accepted they shalll be regarded as mandatory project requirements for implementation.
