Lesson plan Model

Animal World (Presentation Unit)

Date: November 10th , 2010 Level: 5th grade A Time: 90 minutes

Skills: listening-speaking

Expected Outcomes: Students will able to identify vocabulary about animals and ask and
answer about what animals can or can´t do.
Resources: whiteboard, worksheets, markers, power point presentation, YouTube video,
projector, netbook, speakers.

Time Comments

Introduction 5’ Students greet the teacher; look at the date and the objectives of the
class written by the teacher on the whiteboard. Students recall what
they have learned the previous class.
5’ Warm up “If you are happy”

Core of the class Students are presented the new unit “Animal world” trough a power
Pre-stage point presentation. Students are showed an image and they are asked
to talk about what they see in the image.
Students are showed a comic strip related to the topic. The teacher
roles play the dialogue for the first time. In this opportunity the
teacher practice pronunciation patterns with the students.
The second time the teacher asks for volunteers in order to role play
the comic strip. Students are asked the question: what do you think
they are going to do?

The students are asked the following question: What is pet? The
While-stage meaning is commented by the students and the teacher. Some
examples of pet are showed to the students. They repeat for practice
pronunciation. To finish this part the students are asked to answer the
following questions: Do you have a pet? What do you do for your
pet?
The students are asked to see what happened with the little bird in the
comic strip. The teacher asks for volunteers to role play the comic.

In order to make students to internalize more vocabulary about


animals, students are showed a power point presentation about farm
and wild animals. Students practice pronunciation patters chorally
with the teacher´s help. Once they practice pronunciation they are
asked to listen the song “the old Mc Donald had a farm”

Post-stage Students are asked to work in the exercise of the page 106, from the
student’s book. If time allows students are asked to work in the
exercises of the page 107

Students are asked to recognize some animals names by showing them


Closing some animals flashcards
Students say good bye to the teachers

Animal World (listening comprehension)

Date: November 17th , 2010 Level: 5th grade A Time: 90 minutes

Skills: listening-speaking

Expected Outcomes: Students will able to identify animal’s body parts and their abilities
through a listening activity.
Resources: whiteboard, worksheets, markers, power point presentation, flashcards, projector,
netbook, speakers.

Time Comments

Introduction 5’ Students greet the teacher; look at the date and the objectives of the
class written by the teacher on the whiteboard. Students recall what
they have learned the previous class.
2’ Warm up “If you are happy”. Students receive a worksheet with
animals vocabulary
8’ In order to recall the vocabulary studied the previous class, students
participate in an activity in which they are asked to classify animals
into the following categories: pets, farm animals, and wild animals.
This activity will be performed by some students selected by the
teacher or volunteers. The students will perform in front of the class.
They will have to paste the different animal’s flashcard on the
whiteboard.

Before listening the students are showed a power point presentation


Core of the class 15’ that shows different animal’s characteristics. This will be useful for a
Pre-stage better understanding of the next listening. Students practice
pronunciation patterns with the teacher´s help.

While-stage 10’ Students are asked to work by themselves in the exercises 1 and 2 from
the student´s book. (page 106). The teacher checks the answers by
projecting the pdf book.

Students are asked to listen a conversation between father and son and
20’ answer the exercises 6,7,8 page: 107 from the student’s book. The
answers will be corrected by the teacher projecting the pdf student´s
book.

Students are presented the language focus of this class the use of
20’ “Can” for abilities. Students are asked to write down in their
Post-stage notebooks some examples given by the teacher.
Students are asked to answer the question of the exercise 9, page 107
(if time allows)
10’ Students are asked to give an example of some animal´s characteristics
Closing with flashcards help.

Date: November 19th , 2010 Level: 5th grade A Time: 90 minutes

Skills: listening-speaking

Expected Outcomes: Students will practice exercises related to the unit 6 and 7

Resources: whiteboard, worksheets, markers, power point presentation, flashcards, projector,


netbook, speakers.

Time Comments

Introduction 5’ Students greet the teacher; look at the date and the objectives of the

Core of the class 10’ Students are asked to do the mimic of the different daily routines they
have studied during the previous classes. The rest of the students are
Pre-stage asked guess and tell the daily routine aloud.

While-stage 15’ Answer questions about daily routines with their own time. This
information is the one of the worksheets given the previous class.
Students are asked to look at the health problems in flashcards and
repeat them chorally.
Post-stage Students remember adverbs of frequency (often-sometimes, always,
never). Students are asked to answer the questions of the page 99)
The teacher project the pdf of the student´s book.
The students practice animal vocabulary with flashcards. They are
asked to classify farm animals, pets, and wild animal on the
whiteboard.

Closing The students say good bye to the teachers

Expected Outcomes: Students will be able to put in practice the content related to the unit 6 and
7 from the student´s book.
