Introduction
Training Solutions from UTStarcom

You can have the best product, a sophisticated infrastructure, and the latest technology; but to thrive in today’s
marketplace, you need a highly-skilled workforce that is prepared to meet your business and operational objectives.
Training is essential to creating and maintaining an effective workforce. UTStarcom can deliver training when and where
you need it most - via the desktop, Internet, in the lab, in the field, or in the classroom. The expertise of our course
development and delivery specialists ensures that your learning program achieves targeted, measurable results.

Learning Solutions from UTStarcom

Learning solutions align competence investment with operator strategy and business goals for increased Return on
Investment (ROI).

Two components of the Learning Solutions service are also offered as stand-alone services: Structured Knowledge
Transfer (SKT) and Competence Consulting.

SKT is an on-the-job program that focuses on mentoring individual employees in their actual work environment
for optimized competence transfer.

Competence Consulting is a service that analyzes an operator's training and performance needs based on the
operator's business requirements. The outcome is a Competence Gap Analysis Report.
UTStarcom offers training anytime, anywhere - at our education centers, customer sites, online through the virtual
classroom, or by self-paced training through a web portal. Practical training on equipment can also be delivered
remotely through Remote Training Lab.

Blended Training

As an alternative to training using single product types and delivery methods, we develop many of our packages using a
blended training concept. Blended training involves a multi-faceted approach using multiple types of training products,
delivery, and optimally information systems support. It actually begins with the development process; balancing the
knowledge and skills requirements, appropriate training methodology, and suitable delivery methods resulting in a
mixed or blended training approach.

Customized Training

In today’s day and age, it’s imperative to be able to mold a solution that best fits your customer’s needs as network
requirements vary from customer to customer, and the “one size fits all” approach might not be feasible in every
situation. We at UTStarcom fully understand this and have the capabilities and expertise to develop customized training
courses that take into account your specific network, systems, resources, and capabilities.

IPTV
Our IPTV product family enables the delivery of Broadcast TV and VOD services over
an IP network along with a plethora of value-add applications, such as time-shift TV,
video conferencing, distance learning, IP Surveillance, and many more. UTStarcom’s
IPTV solution lays the framework for several applications that can be custom designed
for operators, effectively differentiating its services and increasing its ARPU potential –
especially imperative in highly competitive market environments.

BROADBAND
Our Broadband product family includes various IP-based broadband access
technologies including IP DSL, GEPON, industry leading MSAN and next generation
optical transport and edge aggregation solutions (MSTP). UTStarcom’s broadband
solutions offer the benefit of converged access, via the MSAN approach, with an
integrated TDM migration, POTS termination, DSL, Media Gateway, and GEPON
access on the same platform, thus reducing the operator’s capital expenditure (CAPEX)
and operating expenditure (OPEX) substantially.

NGN
Our NGN product family includes IP Telephony solutions for next generation voice and
data networks. Applications supported by UTStarcom include PSTN emulation, Voice
over Broadband (VoBB) and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), among others. Besides
providing the operator the benefit of reduced recurring operating expense (OPEX),
UTStarcom’s NGN solution is an application enabler and provides the additional benefit
of an integrated back end system for all of UTStarcom’s solutions, including NGN,
Broadband and IPTV --thus enabling a true converged triple play service delivery of
voice, data, and video.

G RollingStream® IPTV System
N The RollingStream IPTV system is an end-to-end all-IP based solution that features a suite of products and services
that enable telecom operators, as well as cable and satellite service providers, to deliver triple play, broadcast-quality
television and on-demand entertainment services to residential and commercial premises. From its inception, the
RollingStream IPTV System was designed with the scalability, reliability, and bandwidth efficiency required to enable
operators to offer new services that represent new revenue opportunities over existing network infrastructures. These
include broadcast TV, timeshift TV, high definition VOD, Internet gaming, and interactive services. The RollingStream
product family includes: a streaming and storage server system (MediaStation); an encoder/transcoder for
assimilating disparate video signals onto a unified distribution system; a set-top box (Media Console) that resides in
the end-user premise and can provide Internet access, broadcast TV, video on demand, nPVR and other value-
added services; and a network management system that can enable nonstop, system-wide operation.

ATM internetworking for upstream traffic nor additional ATM elements. Our IP DSLAMs reside on the edge of a service
A provider’s network and enable network transition from narrowband to broadband by aggregating and converging
subscriber traffic onto a unified IP stream for handoff. The iAN8K series integrates the standalone functionalities of a
N traditional Digital Loop Carrier (DLC), a next-generation VoIP Media Gateway (MG), and our industry-leading IP DSLAM
into a single convenient, multiservice access platform. The platform can empower service providers with maximum
D deployment flexibility for delivering single as well as multiple converged services. By integrating the features of our
proven AN-2000 Multi Service Access Node (MSAN), MG platform, and IP DSLAM broadband access, the iAN8K series
presents operators with an ideal strategy for incrementally migrating from TDM to IP-based voice and next-generation
data services.

N
G GEPON
UTStarcom’s Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) platform is designed to deliver high-speed voice,
N data, and video services to residential and business subscribers. The complete solution, comprising the Optical Line
Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Unit (ONU), represents a high-speed, fiber-to-the home or building (FTTH, FTTB)
alternative to copper. The GEPON platform can be an extremely cost-effective alternative to conventional access
equipment, reducing points of failure and simplifying network architecture.

NetRing® Optical Transport System (MSTP)

We offer a comprehensive suite of SDH/SONET transport products, supporting transmission speeds ranging from 155
Mb/s to 10 GB/s, that enable multi-speed integrated transport for TDM, 10/100/1000M Ethernet and ATM services. The
integration of applications including Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS),
Layer 2 Ethernet switching, and Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) technologies can greatly improve the efficiency and
capacity of data transport. In addition, the product platform supports various complex network topologies and includes a
sophisticated multi-service management system.

mSwitch® System
UTStarcom’s mSwitch system is a unified IP-based softswitch platform, supporting multiple protocols that can enable
higher level services and greater functionality across multi-access networks. This platform is capable of simultaneously
B delivering multiple services over wireless and wireline networks via broadband IP-based packet switching
infrastructures. By utilizing the mSwitch core switching platform, service providers can deliver the functionality required
R for new VoIP services while continuing to enable existing subscribers to access legacy offerings. The platform is also
designed to reliably transport data while simultaneously providing signaling, call control and management. The mSwitch
O switching solution can provide a direct end-user interface for complete IP telephony services including PSTN emulation,
Voice over Broadband and others. The mSwitch core platform interoperates with IP media gateways and IADs through
A standard interfaces such as SIP, Megaco, SIGTRAN, MGCP and H.323. It also communicates with the PSTN via SS7
D and PRI interfaces and provides Intelligent Networking (IN) services, unified messaging, and other value-added
services.
B
A 8250 Personal Communication Management System
Today’s consumers require an intuitive and flexible communications management system that can address all of their
N communication needs. The UTStarcom 8250 Personal Communications Management System allows both wireline and
wireless service providers to give their customers full management of all their communications.
D
UTStarcom Implicity™ IP Messaging Solution
People worldwide find themselves surrounded by an overabundance of messaging technologies. Every day, in addition
to completing their business and personal tasks, they must log on to their email system to read those messages, log in
N to their instant message (IM) system to send and receive messages, and dial in to voicemail systems to collect their
phone messages. While traditional messaging systems served people well in the past, today’s work and life realities
G drive the need for more efficient, intuitive, and less cumbersome messaging. Our Implicity messaging solution
addresses that need by delivering all of those communications in one simple, intuitive system. The Implicity solution
N deploys an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), enabling an architecture that provides converged, rich revenue-generating
services such as voicemail, email, video mail, IM, and conferencing. Its innovative design gives subscribers easy, any-
time access to their communications from any device black phone, computer, SIP Phone, softphone, cell phone or
smartphone. More than just an enhanced IP-based messaging platform, Implicity is a SIP-based system that provides
superior reliability on nonproprietary, industry-standard hardware.

AccessGuard 500™
The AccessGuard™ 500 system is a compact IP transaction accelerator designed to process secure IP-based
transactions in excess of one million per hour. The AccessGuard 500 system consolidates various functions including
security, routing, protocol handling, management and reporting into one condensed solution, while shortening the
transaction time to help reduce the transaction cost. It also reduces network operation costs by using the “less secure”
public Internet to provide secure transaction connections.

UTStarcom’s iPAS core network provides call control, interconnection to the PSTN, mobility functions,
data connectivity, and overall network operations and back end support. The core network of the
iPAS solution is differentiated from the PAS™ solution in that the iPAS network interconnects with the
existing Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) by the Signaling System 7 (SS7) interface,
making it an ideal solution for areas where either extra switching capacity or the V5.2 Next
Generation Integrated Digital Loop Carrier (NG-IDLC) interface is not available. Using the IP trunking
capability, iPAS can operate as an independent network over a unified IP-based infrastructure.
