Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care
Dear Colleagues,
From our conversations with clinicians over the past 16 years, we have come to understand how difficult
it is to juggle the responsibilities of your busy practice—from patient care and medical challenges to
budgets and administration—while staying up-to-date on the latest developments, treatments, and
practices in health care. We have listened to your wonderful suggestions and have developed what we
believe is an exceptional program in Houston. We’re delighted to invite you to Current Clinical Issues in
Primary Care, presented at the Pri-Med® Southwest Conference & Exhibition.
This exciting 2-day primary care-focused CME course, developed by the distinguished faculty of
Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine, features more than 35 lectures covering disease
states, emerging research, public health, and policy issues.
You’ll have an opportunity to hear world-renowned speakers such as John D. Goodson, MD, FACP, who
will present, “The Promise of Primary Care” and Paul Klotman, MD, who will present "Improving Value in
Healthcare: A Partnership Between an Academic Medical Center and Primary Care Physicians."
Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care will provide the opportunity to earn up to 12 AMA PRA
Category 1 Credit(s)™ at lectures presented by faculty of Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of
Medicine. You will also have time to network with other clinicians at an educational activity specifically
tailored to the needs of primary care providers.
Our goal in developing quality CME courses is always to inspire, empower, and inform. We invite
you to take an active part in the future of health care by attending this premier CME course,
Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care.
Each year, approximately 3,000 health care providers gather to learn, share, and explore the latest
research, technology, and ideas in primary care medicine. In its 7th year, Pri-Med Southwest continues
to deliver—don’t miss it!

Medicine as a Currency for Peace: The Passion to Bring Health,
Hope, and Healing
William H. Frist, MD
Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist shares his unique experience as a heart transplant surgeon and US
senator inspiring people to make a difference wherever they are by helping others, risking failure, challenging the
status quo, and above all, having a heart to serve. Frist tackles controversial issues to offer feasible solutions. His
simple philosophy for peace, for example, is service. “People don’t usually go to war against someone who helped
save their children,” Frist writes. “When people see America’s more compassionate, humanitarian side, the
barriers come down, and peace becomes a viable possibility.” Frist writes openly about the values and experiences
that shaped his life, and challenges and inspires everyone to find a place where they, too, can make a difference.
Senator Bill Frist, MD, served as a senator for 12 years. He has practiced medicine for 20 years and is a pioneer
surgeon in heart and lung transplantation. Dr Frist now focuses his efforts on relief work around the world.
The 21st century provides a remarkable opportunity for medicine to serve as a currency for peace. Health transcends
political and cultural boundaries, and healing can increase cooperation and harmony in a global society. We as physicians
have the opportunity to become heroes by sharing what we have learned here at home and around the world.
