1. Multimedia: A combination of various types of media, including sound, animation, video


and graphics.

3. Internet 2: Internet 2 is a nationwide project to develop the next generation of computer
network applications to facilitate the research and education.

13. Packets: A piece of a message transmitted over a packet-switching network. One of the
key features of a packet is that it contains the destination address in addition to the data.
14. Packet-switching: a network communications method that groups all transmitted data,
irrespective of content, type, or structure into suitably-sized blocks, called packets.
15. IP-address: An Internet Protocol is a numerical identification that is assigned to devices
participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its
nodes.
16. Static/Dynamic IPs: An IP address that is the same every time you log on to the internet/
An IP address that changes every time a user connects to the Internet.
17. DNS: Abbreviation for Domain Name Service (or System), a network of servers that
translate web site names (such as www.quotientmarketing.com) into the IP (or Internet Protocol)
addresses that are used to uniquely identify any device connected to the internet.
18. IPV4: Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) is the fourth iteration of the Internet Protocol (IP)
with four digits.
19. Domain: The Internet is set up hierarchically, the last part of the address tells the type of
general category, for example: .COM - commercial, .EDU - educational institution

31. PDF: Portable Document Format, used to transfer files over the Internet using the Adobe
Acrobat software.
32. Scripts: a programming language that controls a software application.
33. JavaScript: a scripting programming language used to add interactive functions to HTML
pages.
34. Perl: a high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language.
35. Applet: a software component that runs in the context of another program, for example a
web browser. An applet usually performs a very narrow function that has no independent use.

36. Active X: is a Microsoft technology for software componentry. It is used to enable cross-
software communication.
37. XML: eXtensible Markup Language (XML): A widely accepted way of sharing information
over the Internet in a standard, generic way.
38. XHTML: The Extensible Hypertext Markup Language, or XHTML, is a markup language that
has the same depth of expression as HTML, but also conforms to XML.
39. SMIL: A markup language based on XML that allows you to create and stream web-based
presentations composed of multiple media types.
40. Ajax: is a group of interrelated web development techniques used for creating interactive
web applications or rich Internet application
41. Spiders: computer program that prowls the internet looking for publicly accessible
resources that can be added to a database; the database can then be searched with a search
engine.
42. Web crawlers: Web crawlers are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for
later processing by a search engine that will index the downloaded pages to provide fast searches.
