Renault
French major, Renault S.A. has been in existence for over a hundred years with
its operations commencing in 1899. Famed for building cars like the Clio and
Megane, Renault has had much success by launching the Logan worldwide.
Coming in from the French automaker's sister concern, Dacia, Logan has created
a niche for itself by offering cheap but efficient, comfortable and reliable motoring
experience. The same car was launched in India too to form a platform to intiate
Renault's India endeavour. Logan comes across as a spacious, comfortable and
reliable machine which will appeal to the mileage conscious customer. So far so
good, just wish that Renault brings in its hot hatch, the Clio Renaultsport 197 and
the Megane Sport Saloon to gratify the performance oriented examples of human
genus in India.
The car Renault Logan is one of the foremost cars introduced by Mahindra and
Renault together in India. This is one of the widest cars in the segment C and its
body type is Sedan. Renault is a low cost car and it lacks the styling of expensive
cars in the first impression but after having a few rides the feeling can change.
The car has lots of space. Initially the car was introduced in 11 cities in India. The
car is extremely economical to use having a high mileage of 19 kpl.

Technical Specification
The initial impression doesn’t make the car to be counted among the stylish
range of four wheelers but as you sink in the back seat it makes you feel really
good. The car comes in 6 colors Toreador Red, Diamond White, Black, Mist
Silver, Sahara Beige and Turf Green. The car can be compared to Ford Ikon as it
looks similar on watching from a few angles and in comparison to Ford’s Fiesta
and Hyundai’s Verna it has fewer style and comfort.
The body of the car is stiff and it has a single square shaped dashboard, a good
glove box having cubbyhole is present. The circular aircon is powerful and
steering wheel is large that has a badge to hide the tacho and speedo. Cup
holders and hand brakes are well placed. Switchgear and digital display are also
easy to find. The car suspension is designed to suit the Indian roads and you can
keep items in it without caring about the ground clearance.
Comfort
The 1.5 D logon has a good NVH control and the noise of engine is not very high
like other diesel cars. The car is wider and spacious in its range and when
compared to Toyota Corolla .The rear is impressive where all the three seated
feel comfortable in the back .The front seats are also wide and the car is
attached with the driver side airbags like other popular models.
The driver is also protected through the honeycomb dashboard from the front
impact and the cross member at the rear protect from the rear hit. The mirrors
are small and the left mirror is placed badly to be obstructed by A-pillar clad. The
switches are not well placed.

Car is Economical
Negative first impressions of driving a supposedly low cost sedan were nullified
at the outset itself because the car, though possessing rather sparse lines to
accentuate the styling, did have a certain cozy feel to it, which is ever so
important when buying or owning a car. So, what’s it like to own India’s first wide
body car? As a driver, not too entertaining considering the lack of brute power or
console knick knacks, but as a passenger, words fall short. Renault, and more
importantly Mahindra, has got it just right.
Make no mistake, it is a low cost car and the outcome is clearly visible in the
single parking lamp, the lack of styling ( even that aids to give it a nice muscular
stance, coupled with the classy looking centrally mounted Renault badge on the
grill up front ), and sparse interiors. But then, this is not what it was made for. The
specifications pit this as bigger than the Merc C class and competition, and it
does that with aplomb, sink into the backseat and one does not feel like one is in
a low cost sedan by any stretch of the imagination. They have made up for the
lack of power, styling and goodies with some awesome room once inside the
vehicle, which is a smart move considering a lot of sedan buyers usually employ
drivers to chauffeur them around whilst the lounge on the back seat with their
laptops and cell phones, being least bothered about what lies under the hood of
the car or in the dash up front.
Coming to the car itself, they have maintained an aggressive stance and some
work has surely gone into the Dacia for India. There are lines running all the way
across the C pillar that seek to establish a not totally devoid sense of style, whilst
the grill, the 185 tyres, the McPherson strut suspension ( not independent link
sadly ) and its 155mm ground clearance all add to the value for money this car
offers. The model we own is a 1.5D, and at 65bhp at 4000 rpm, its not exactly
sprightly, but is more than adequate for the city as we found out, it is actually
quicker to the 40+ kmph mark than the 1.6 petrol, one can put that down to the
higher torque offered by the Diesel variant (16.4kgm @ 2krpm as opposed to a
miserly 13 kgm @3100rpm for the petrol). Once past the 40kmph mark however,
the car will chug along steadily but slowly towards its claimed 145kmph top
whack (although one must keep in mind that this was not made for that purpose,
if someone is looking for a performance diesel, the Fiesta and Verna offer a bit
more, with some in house dash sensibilities too at a much higher price!). The
mileage gained so far from this vehicle is an unbelievable 19kmpl (mix of both
city and highway driving, at usual cruising speeds, with minimal use of overdrive).
That coupled with its hard to believe leg and head room, make for a decent
combination of owning the machine.
