universo intelectual esté a nuestro alcance.

quedado obsoletas.

The research into demand for Greenways consisted of focus groups and in
depth interviews in four contrasting locations - Bournemouth, Gateshead,
Peterborough and Walsall. The focus groups were carried out with a mix of
adults ranging from frequent to infrequent recreational users. The in-depth
interviews were with local user group members. The research concluded that
the Greenways concept would overcome many of the deterrents to leisure
participation, provided that routes were safe, attractive and interesting in their
own right.

pratiques.

and Society; Values of Interpretation for Management; The Clients; Traditions,
Principles and Challenges; Foundations; How People Learn; Interpreting the
Masses; The Printed Word; Exhibits and Museums; Self-Guiding Tours;

Every community has stories to tell about its history, people, and cultural heritage.
Developing a program of interpretation puts a community in control of how these
stories are presented to others and will encourage tourists to value and appreciate
local heritage in the same way community residents do. That bond can lead to a
successful, healthy and sustainable tourism industry. In the same way that translators
interpret across languages, communities can interpret their heritage in order that it is
meaningful across different cultures. Interpretation (explaining a community’s story in
an engaging, vibrant way) is a useful tool for tourism destination man-agement and
conservation. It can be used to encourage respect and appropriate behaviour from
tourists as well as to promote feelings of pride and awareness within a
community.Thoughtful interpretive programs offer the visitor a more meaningful
experience than simply a holiday at the beach or a nice view and will reinforce and
celebrate local heritage.

In the face of budgetary shortfalls there needs to be more, not less interpretive
program evaluation. Direct evaluation includes the visitor in the evaluation
process. Focus groups were tested to achieve direct evaluation for three types
of evaluation: front-end, formative, and summative. These tests led to a
simplified focus group technique that combines the evaluation objectives,
questioning schedule, data recording, analysis, and reporting into one working
document resulting in a more efficient and effective method. The Synthesized
Model for integrating evaluation and the program development process is
presented. The model links the three types of evaluation to appropriate program
development stages. It is suggested that direct evaluation with focus groups
would fit the model well.

Greenways and Quiet Roads are two initiatives which aim to give better mobility
and access for people on foot, bike or horseback. Greenways are designed for
shared use and largely exclude motorised vehicles. They are in and around
towns and the countryside. Quiet Roads are minor rural roads, already lightly
trafficked where extra traffic measures will improve their attractiveness for non-
motorised users. Both initiatives are part of the Countryside Agency's transport
work and will assist integrated transport policies.
