Why I Want to be a Teacher

I have wanted to be a teacher for many years. I remember when I was little and I would

play pretend and teach my little brother how to do some math problems and I would make him

write sentences out. I wanted to be just like my mom, she is a preschool teacher, she has been my

inspiration since I was young. I can’t wait to start teaching my own classes.

I have always been very professional when I am around adults and younger kids. I used

to go to classes with my mom Wednesday mornings when I didn’t work. I helped my mom set up

her room for her lessons. She even let me lead the class a handful of times. This built on to my

communication skills with the younger kids and by watching my mom interact with their parents

I have learned what is appropriate and not to discuss with parents.

I have a two big area of strength, and that would be my leadership skills and thinking

skills. I have been to leadership camp for four years, and I also was a camp counselor for the

same camp. I loved leading groups of people to learn how to public speak and have fun at the

same time. My thinking skills are great, because I am both street smart and book smart when it

comes to solving problems. I did not get the pleasure to grow up in a diverse area. I would love

to grow in having more human relations in a more divers crowd. So this is where I need to grow.

There are several rewards to being a teacher. It makes me feel better to know that I could

change the perspective of a kid through my teaching. Much like a few of my teachers did for me.

It would be great for me to have a chance to teach a life lesson in class to future students.

Another reward is connecting with staff and having a great work environment. I know this

reward doesn’t come naturally when you are a new teacher, and it will take some time to become

comfortable in my work environment.

In conclusion, I would love to be a teacher. I have been teaching my little brother since I

was little, so I have become a natural at it. My mom is my biggest inspiration and my biggest

fan! I would love to be able to teach kids my own lessons someday just like her. I have a lot to

work on before I can become the teacher I would like to be. I hope my leadership skills will help

me in guiding kids though academics.
